Indiana Jones 5 Update – Ford is in if Script is Good

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull did benefit a financial success which in Hollywood is enough to encourage a sequel. I know the fans seem to not like it, but I for one wasn’t completely against it. It wasn’t my favourite chapter, but I thought it was a good fit with the pulp adventures of Doctor Jones.

Well the holy triumbrant has gathered to decide if they want to do another chapter, and prospects are looking good that a fifth chapter has a good chance at being made.

Screencave quotes Harrison Ford:

“The story for the new Indiana Jones is in the process of taking form. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the fifth adventure will concern, and George is actively at work. If the script is good, I’ll be very happy to put the costume on again.”

I am hopeful about a new Indiana Jones chapter, even with Mutt and Mrs. Jones in tow. I knew this latest revival attempt was going to be hard to please after so long since the last chapter. But at least now they have reactions to hopefully build on.

Even Lucas backed off the JarJar and Medichlorians when he was so universally hated, so maybe he will listen this time and a followup would benefit from the feedback.

  1. KOTCS does not exist to me. That movie was flat out awful in almost all aspects.

People who compare this movie to the originals are either a) trying not to face reality or b) insane.

Make this new one a prequel, get rid of Steven’s cinematographer, get rid of all things Sci-Fi, get rid of Lucas, hire Frank Darabont back.

Or better yet, just don’t make it. Steven has clearly lost it as a filmmaker and Lucas is just an insane old man.

  2. i realize the first three were supernatural, but that stuff seemed secondary to the real action. but KOTCS went way out with the whole alien thing. the science fiction should be reeled in a bit in favor of good old adventure, with bad guys, car chases and barfights. i think it suits the franchise better.

  3. Crystal Skull was not enjoyable at all to me. Every decision made on that movie was bad, from casting Shia to the aliens. I know that some people on here are saying that the other movies weren’t that great either, but come on, you know they were. Seriously compare the previous action, suspense, humor, and iconic characters of the previous films to Crystal Skull. There is nothing that CS did that lived up to the precedent that was set. What are they going to do in another one after the aliens and nuclear fridge? At theis point, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Indiana Jones put on a pair of water skis and jump some sharks.

  4. Okay. As I wrote before, I did like KOTCS. It didn’t compare to the originals, but it was okay. I really like Harrison Ford and I think he can be Indy at least once more. So what if he’s old? I like it that he’s getting old; makes him more human. And I would hate a new actor to play Indy. Anyway, I think the series took a wrong turn with aliens. It’s an action/adventure series with tiny bits of magic mixed in. Aliens only fit into the sci-fi genre and it gives off a totally different feel. Anyway, I welcome a new installment. As long as Lucas gives his word to ease up a bit. And I didn’t hate the Mutt character. But I would hate if they just handed it off to Mutt right now. Develop him a bit, make him a more fitting character for the mantle. Anyway, I’m excited.

  5. I say do one more trilogy. But that’s if everything turns out alright. I’m sure if this does alright, they could do at least one more Indy. Then, if they want, they can pass it off to Mutt officialy.

  6. We all knew a sequel was coming, might as well make the best of it. Some possible titles for the next summer blockbuster.

“Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Script”

“Indiana Jones and the Old Folks Home of Doom”

“Indiana Jones and the Last Box Office”

“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Bedpan”

  7. KOTCS was one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and we all know this is true; they are making another film because they know the movie sucked and don’t want to end on that note!!

  8. The last, like everyone else, wasn’t my favorite… but it wasn’t actually my least favorite, either. I think anyone who disliked that movie really needs to go back and rewatch some of the others… they’re not much better.

That’s right — I’m going to go out and say it: none of the Indiana Jones movies is very, very good. What they are (the good ones, anyway) is fun. The only really silly part of the last Jones film was the whole ‘nuke the fridge’ scenes. Minus that and it really has every element of the other movies, done about as well as the other movies. A lot of people didn’t like the fact that there were aliens at the end, but every single Indiana Jones movie has had mystical/unexplained things happen at the end. What’s the difference between gods and aliens? Really?

So sign me up as on board to watch another Indiana Jones. They’ve all been fun, escapist movies that I don’t at all mind paying to go see in the theater, but probably not buy the DVD.

  9. I’ll tell you, one thing they could do instead of making a sequel after KOTCS is do what they did with Temple of Doom. Have the next film take place a few years before KOTCS or something. At least that gets rid of the horrible Mutt character and Henry Jones Sr. will still be alive!

  10. KOTCS is not that good when you really watch it again. I’m surpised Ford signed up with the fourth movie cause the script was not great at all. And I thought they’re making the fifth indiana jones for Shia because ford is gettin too old. Oh well… but I really think they should drop this one cause Ford is getting too old and I don’t really want to see Shia as another main character in a Steven Spielberg movie he was pretty annoying in the fourth.
