Bateman talks Arrested Development and Hancock 2

Jason Bateman is one of my favourite actors to see in a film. And recently we heard news that one of his films was getting a sequel, but we didn’t hear about Bateman being involved. And it seems that Bateman hasn’t heard from Hancock 2 either.

Collider shares:

Variety reported “Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman are gearing up to reunite for the sequel to Columbia Pictures’ “Hancock,” with Peter Berg set to helm the action-comedy.”

But earlier today when I covered the “Couples Retreat” international press day for our partners at Omelete, Jason told me, “I don’t know where that writer gets their information from as I haven’t been contacted, nor have my representatives.”

Most of the sources I read (and discussed here) was about Theron and Smith signing on for the sequel, so I am not surprised that Bateman wasn’t in on it. Personally, I am curious to see what might come of a plot that doesn’t have Bateman in it. I thought the film ended with him moving on with his married life and Hancock moving to become a respectable superhero in another city.

And when asked about the status of the Arrested Development Batemen says its being written with hopes of it being filmed next year.

I would assume it’s not going to be anything more than a long episode. I don’t think there’s any need to go further than that. I think it might be wrong to. Hopefully, people will be willing to pay money to see what will amount to be three or four new episodes all stuck together as one long one. I don’t know. Hopefully interest has not waned cause selfishly we all want to get back together and do it again. So hopefully there will be enough people to see it to break even.

I have been told I need to watch this show, but I know it has a big following. Hopefully enough to make for a good showing if the movie is made.

  1. i can’t believe you’ve never seen arrested development! i actually really never watched it until it was canceled, seeing as how its time slot was moved around so much. definitely need to check it out though man. its in my top 5 comedy shows

  2. I wasn’t much of a Hancock fan, so they can do what they want with Hancock 2, but I have to say myself, and most of my friends are very excited at the prospects of the Arrested Development movie. I still have no idea why such an honest, simple, but yet HYSTERICAL comedy show could get cancelled?! And the cast was amazing (I’m looking forward to seeing David Cross and Michael Bateman on screen again!) It’s a long shot, and I know I’m not the only one thinking this, but I wonder if the movie does well enough, they’ll make more tv shows? That would be amazing.

  3. Best American Comedy ever. There are some British ones that are out there, but nothing produced in this country is fit to be shown on the same channel as Arrested Development.

  4. Rodney..HUH! Ok yeah great show that you HAVE TO give some time to.

I found that I wasn’t hooked until the second or third episode but o boy I haven’t cried of laughter with any other show as much as this. Its still the best that I have seen Michael Cera, for some reason his comic timing (which is almost perfect) only seems to shine on this show.Maybe because of the cast he is working with David cross,Will Arnet, Jason bateman? Big mention to Jeffery Tambor who is on my first and second favourite American comedies Larry sanders being the second and he adds just general nuttiness(if that is even a word) that you need.

That all said I don’t think the movie would work. The humour would have a chance to get stale after 90mins or so. It would be the same as watching a 90 min entourage episode it would get old quickly.

Although I hope they prove me wrong (fingers crossed)..

    1. Spoiler:

At the end Hancock is off in another city and calls Bateman to tell him to look up. Bateman is walking with his superhero wife and looks up to see his heart logo on the moon.

It was Hancock who left the city, leaving Bateman behind with his family.

    1. It is my opinion that Bateman was the best part about Hancock, without his character that movie has no soul, it doesnt click.

      Bateman was fantastic in Hancock.

  5. I know people will disagree, and even though it may only be my own personal opinion…this is the best comedy television series ever written.

I repeat…the BEST comedy television series ever written.

Not to overhype it for your viewing pleasure…but you MUST watch it, start to finish, at the very least to see what the fuss is all about.

      1. I can’t understand why you haven’t seen this (AD) show! I know opinions are subjective, but this show destroys nearly every comedy show ever written. Please watch it from beginning to end and marvel at how layered and complex it gets as it goes on. You will want to watch it several times.

    1. Also the second season of Sit Down, Shut Up (Writen by AD’s Hurwitz and starring Bateman, Arnett, and Winkler) is off to a great start. Check out the first two episodes of the season on hulu if you missed them.
