Things I don’t Think we will see in Transformers

There has been a lot of comparisons of the current Transformers Film Franchise to its source material, and for obvious reasons. Half of what makes these Transformers films a big draw to people my age is that we were brought up on the original cartoon. We are all waiting to see if our favourite bots will make the roster and see what they would look like re-imagined on the big screen for live action.

I still want to see a HotRod (or Hotshot) as he was always my favourite. (I like the care free hotshot turned underdog leader burdened with more self doubt than responsibility. Builds character)

Anyways, there are a few things that people (and by people I mostly mean reg poster Hazmat) want to see in a Transformers film that I don’t see happening. I thought I would make a post for that discussion here.

Over a year ago I posted an April Fool’s joke that hinted at some of these characters being present in a gag announcing we knew which bots would be on the roster. and while some were predictions, they were an effective gag because they were plausible. It COULD have happened even though it was totally made up. So when I bring up these issues remember that I am not totally against it, just that I don’t predict it will happen for a reason.

Grimlock

Its not that I don’t think Grimlock would be a bad choice, I think he would be awesome. He was easily near the top of my list in favourite personalities. “Me Grimlock! Strongest leader!!” Damn that guy is great. But I honestly don’t see them bringing him in, at least not the way people would want.

The Autobots tend to still be living the whole “robots in disguise” thing and laying low among earth’s motorpool despite the Decepticons picking Earth Modes when it suits them and Transforming into whatever they want. So a bot that changes into a Dino just doesn’t seem plausible with the current trends. If anything I would love to see a Hummer or something that changes into a Grimlock bot (maybe with a dino triple changer mode) but at the core of it, I just want to see the personality show up. Have him unwittingly challenging Prime for leadership, Prime outmatched physically has to outsmart him to keep him in line. Good fun.

Galvatron

Despite a lot of the viewership knowing the history of the cartoon, we have to remember. THIS IS NOT THE CARTOON. With Megatron’s short lived screentime before his “death” some fans presume that his “rebirth” in Revenge of the Fallen should come with a name change as well. Clearly there is a parallel with Megatron getting his servos handed to him, is discarded but then ressurected.

But a name change won’t matter here. First off, it would JUST be a name, and that would just confuse things, so why change it?? Galvatron was not Megatron. He only has shadows of Megatron’s memories after the upgrade by Unicron, and is different in personality. Megatron was an evil opportunist and feirce leader over the Decepticons forged in his timeless war against the Autobots and dominance over his planet Cybertron. His only purpose is the expansion of his empire and wants to rule all of the galaxy. Galvatron is a focal point of power and madness given form. He is irrational and rage driven and would shoot an ally to get a clear shot.

I would suspect that since the first film introduced us to Megatron only in the closing battle, this film will serve to further use the character. Personally I had hoped the rumours that Megatron wasn’t in this at all would ring true and I was disappointed to find out he was going to be in this. Not because I didn’t like the character, but because I felt that Megatron’s triumphant return would be better served as the focal point of a third movie.

Unicron

Speaking of Galvatron, we can’t overlook his maker Unicron. And a lot of people seem to think this would be epic to have Unicron in this film. I disagree. Remember Galactus??

The one thing people seem to gripe about the most is the presence of these feeble fleshbags in a film about Giant Fucking Robots fighting. Oh they whine about the vapid Megan Fox getting more screen time to show cleavage or a sweaty midriff or Shia getting a chance to be all too human and genuine that we moan about their presence. Why have humans at all?

Its a common sci-fi element to tie it into reality by using familiar ground. It binds you emotionally to the film. Instead of watching giant robots kick each other around, you can see their epic battles through the eyes of the human lives it affects. I know people will want to disagree with this, but consider what Star Wars would have been like if it was all aliens that were not at all human like? We find ourselves sucked into that world as the humans among the aliens. And you can name dozens of other sci-fi stuff that features a Human among the strange and wonderful, and it is typically through that character that we experience the wonder of the unfamiliar. There are exceptions to this idea, but this is why I feel that Transformers NEEDS humans.

Now what does that have to do with Unicron? Just that I feel the “world eater” who could defeat Earth just by parking next to it is just a dumb thing to see in a Transformers live action film. I get the whole “David and Goliath” motif they are building in these films. The Autobots are seriously outclassed and by no way should be able to win the battle, but we know they will inch out ahead and win the day. With Unicron, I see no reason for them to concievably beat him. And every conceivable scenario that does result in victory excludes any humans and requires a leadership matrix.

Most of the fascination of Unicron would be simply in seeing that visualized with the live action styling. The visuals would be amazing, and a battle withing the innards of a transforming planetoid would be a staggering achievement. But that is where it would end. Unicron is a flat personality that simply presents an insurmountable opposition. To me, Unicron is not nearly as interesting a character as he is a cool visual.

I will take an interesting complex badguy any day of the week over a moon that salivates when it sees a planet.

Overall

So in closing let me repeat that I do relate to why people want to see these things, and in many cases I agree that some things they itch to see in the movie. I just don’t see a lot of them happening. At least not the way that some people think.

Is there anything else you would LOVE to see in the movies that you are sure wouldn’t happen?

    1. John doesnt have to comment on every post made on this site, as well this topic is not specifically about TF2, but the franchise in general.

We already know Grimlock, Galvatron and Unicron are not in part 2, even without seeing the movie.

    1. No. He woudlnt.

There is a clear change in Megatron when he becomes Galvatron. His personality is a far less controlled and far more dangerous type of evil.

Megatron is a military leader, Galvatron is just a loose cannon. Literally.

    2. I think if you did a survey asking fans the following question, you would find Megatron is not as kind as you think. I did so myself with a few dozen people found a landslide decision. I asked as follows:

Would Megatron shoot an ally to get a clear shot at an Autobot?

  1. Transformers had a dissapointing 14 million opening in UK and will end with 35-45 million there.

In Japan it did exactly like first one did opening weekend but legs won’t be as good so it will do around 35M at best.

So in both markets it will end up doing less than first movie. I am hoping this does similar to first one so that paramount is dissapointed.

People need to realize that the first movie wasn’t that well liked. It made all that money because it was something new, unique and fresh. It released at the right time.

Since then better robot related movies have come out like IRON MAN and WALL-E. People expect similar quality of movie but ofcourse Michael Bay likes to put stereotypical jokes and blows shit up which people are getting tired of.

I am betting 100 bucks that Roland Emmerich who I consider to be another Michael Bay will deliver a much better and more entertaining movie called 2012 this year.

    1. The first Transformers movie made 47 million and 35 million in the UK and Japan respectively.

Transformers 2 will make big bucks at the box office, but might not surpass the first movie (which took advantage of July 4 landing on a Wednesday).

  2. I find it hilarious that the guys who wrote script for TF and TF2 also wrote STAR TREK which was a great summer movie.

Seriously fuck transformers. I think they shouldn’t bother doing TF3 and if they do then I hope it sees a major dip in boxoffice.

    1. Those two are terrible writers. Even Star Trek had so many plot holes that they told viewers to read the comic books to get answers. Heaven forbid they put any effort into the script. After all, those big, shiny robots will just cover up the flaws in the script.

  3. robertwolf did you watch with your eyes closed since when was the transformers a comedy show there was to many daft parts in the film but most of the robots was out of this world cgi wise didnt like the plot but the jar jar binks effect left a bad taste in my mouth please let someone else direct the next film

    1. Transformers always had comedy moments in it. This film had comedy moments too, like the first. I’m guessing you had your eyes closed, because there were plenty of serious moments, that I won’t obviously go into here.

Like Matt pointed out, you can blame Orci and Kurtman for the plot. Bay shots some amazing scenes. The guy can do action.

The film did have it’s weaknesses. It’s not perfect. But I found it to be very enjoyable and fixes a lot of the weaknesses from the first film.

  4. Saw the film 2 times now. Won’t tell you what your right or wrong about about.

I loved the film. If you enjoyed the first, you’ll enjoy this. More action, robots, better cgi and dives into the mythology more. It felt like a decepticon film.

  5. Grimlock is totally possible. revnge of the fallen alludes to seven old cybertronians that had been on earth since before 15000bc or some such.

jetfire is the only one they show us but they pointed out where the other six were.

their not lost they just chose the closest one. grimlock, ultramagnus, hell, cup is probably in there somewhere.

  6. Just watched transformers 2 in the uk holy sh1t micheal bay should be hung for what he has done he has made the transformers a laughing stock the only good thing about this movie is the effects i now am a bay hater dont get your hopes up just at this rate gi joe will be better and this is comming from a tf fan

  7. Grimlock could care less about Autobot protocol since he and the rest of the Dinobots operate outside the Autobot’s rules. And after the second movie, people around the world should know about the Transformer’s existence (they should have known after the first movie but oh well.)

As for Unicron, have Sam fuse with the spirit of Primus, and let them duke it out, if people go gaga over regular Transformers imagine the uproar over planet sized Transformers beating the tar out of each other. IMAX will not be enough, they would have to build special theaters to show the Bay epicness!

    Transformers needs INTERESTING humans.

“an interesting complex badguy” another thing you won’t see in a Micheal Bay Transformers movie.

  8. I can’t imagine there being a Unicron in the film without it looking awkward. I guess they would beat him with the Matrix…which is a cheap deus ex machina sort of resolution. Yeah people made the point thats what happened in the first movie with the Cube…yup it happened…but who said that was a good resolution to that conflict (I felt short changed when that happened). It was a cheap way to resolve the story then and and it will be cheap again if they do it with Unicron.

haha not sure who brought it up, but I like the idea that Grimlock transforms into Truckasaurus hahaha brilliant

  9. Characters Id like to see (note: have not watched the second movie yet)

*Shockwave – the purple robot who stays on cybertron and communicates to megatron when he’s on earth. He could be used as something of a link between the two worlds in a film (though I doubt the franchise will ever head into space, due mostly to the “human factor” as rodney pointed out

*Cyclonus – galvatron’s second in charge. Has also been used alongside megatron in the armada series. He would be an interesting character as he is a 2ic who is the opposite to starscream (ie loyal)

*Rodimus – the fiery youngster who is the heir to prime’s leadership. only problem is that to introduce him properly u would have to either kill optimus or limit his role. This would be brand suicide, as he’s basically the series most famous and popular character. Perhaps he could work if he is potrayed as the heir to the leadership who turns away from that path ala Aragon

*Grimlock – I think you could have him, and as a dinosaur. My jstification? he is stupid, so instead of scanning a vehicle which can be used for disguise he scans a truckasaurus and turns into that

  10. I am still hoping that Grimlock will be in the films one day. I highly doubt that he would be a T-Rex but I can see him as maybe another semi style type of truck. Maybe he can be a Peterbilt, but if they did that then they would have to include Ultra Magnus since he was also a Freight Truck. Or Maybe he can be one of those SWAT tanks with a fang style paint job? I don’t care how they do it but ME WANT GRIMLOCK IN MOVIE! GRIMLOCK IS KING!

  11. It seems to me that the fanbase for these movies is sort of in denial. Rodney (rightfully) criticizes a cheap undramatic ending via deus ex machina but somehow completely overlooks that Shia killed megatron in the first one with the magic cube of leadership.
He gives the first a complete pass to the first but insists the sequels live up to a much higher standard.
Rodney dismisses Unicron, saying he favors “interesting complex badguys”??? !!!
Did the villians in the first one even have names? The megatron / starscream dynamic from the cartoon proved beyond Mick Bay’s meager talents.
It sounds like there’s sort of a fan rebellion against the sequel, and I’m glad to hear it. But I find it difficult to believe this films is much stupider than the first one.

I just don’t get the adult fan base for Transformers. I would just as soon argue about my favorite Smurf as my favorite Transformerbot. It’s like red m&m’s vs green m&ms.

  12. My hype for this film has gone down a bit. It currently holds a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn’t good at all. Also, I’ve heard some things in early reviews, like the twins, the running time, etc. I’m still seeing it,…but I’m not gonna go in with the expectation I started with.

  13. Im pretty amazed at Rod’s post this time around. I have to agree with the logical point he made about Grimlock, Galvatron, and unicron.
Now with that said, its not impossible to have these characters in future films. Anything can be done in film or animation as long as its done in a certain manner that the majority could accept. I like the idea of Grimlock as a triple changer or we could just skip his robot mode all together. Galvatron…hmmm I love him alot but its pointless now to bring him in because they already ressurected Megatron once. Now Unicron, I want in the third movie! Its great esclation in the film to have something much more worse to deal with then the last. First was megatron, next was the Fallen and next should be Unicron. Get some really talented writers and Im sure they can pull it off. Personally I think thats what its leading up too because after the Fallen who else is a greater threat? If they didnt have Unicron I would think a third new villan or the same villan again would be dissappointing.

    1. Well i do believe the topics are much better on your other posts. Can’t really argue on the points you make. And yes its also amazing we agree on something else for a change. just dont think this is the start of a beautiful relationship.

  14. Grimlock would be nice to see. Maybe make him a Dinosaur that transforms into a truck. That way you don’t have to explain why he turns into a dinosaur since it’s not a very convincing disguise.

  15. A few possibilities for a TFBay’s Dinobots:
The Dinobots retreat to earth when dinosaurs were still alive. They disguise themselves as dinosaurs to hide from Decepticons. Now, they could either stay on earth and get trapped under ice like Megatron did, or buried under rock, stuck in a tar pit or whatever. Dig them up in 2012 and boom you’ve got dinobots. They are not too smart and see no reason to disguise themselves, not to mention they actually prefer to stay in dino mode as opposed to robot mode.
They could also have visited earth and left after adopting the dino forms and like I said with the other scenario, just enjoy dino mode too much to change.

    1. You know, I actually really like that idea. It’s different, and kind of silly, but it fits within the film’s logic rather well. Megatron was frozen for thousands of years, and no timeframe was ever given in that opening prologue in TF1. It’s possible.

It would also explain why the Dinobots are a bit more primitive in their own intelligence as well.

    2. No, I laughed my ass off at half of it, but the other half sounded like really good idea.

The first 2 sentences were funny as shit and sounded like a horrid idea, just horrid, but the rest would actually kinda work, i would like that in the next movie

    3. also, in the newest cartoon, Transformers:Animated, the Dinobots are animatronic museum displays brought to life by the “spark” key. Maybe in Night at the Museum 3, Ben Stiller gets ahold of a piece of an allspark shard and makes a blockbuster hit for 2010…

    1. You mean the guy who is an insecure version of Optimus Prime? The one that used the same toy mold with the trailer parts adding to his bulk?

I see no reason to. But I would imagine with hundreds of bots to choose from (and still making up their own too) it’s still possible.

    2. I hate Ultra Magnus with a passion, such a waste of potential.

Even the Transformers think he sucked. Notice how none of the Autobots actually asked the Junkions to put him back together after the Decepticons blew him apart… think that’s a coincidence?

    3. Ultra Magnus is optimus’ partner!
He is humble and would sacrifice his life ANY DAY for the sake of completing a mission, hes the perfect definition of a good soldier, hes a bad leader, yes, but hes a great follower, hes an unmatched talent for improvisation on the battlefield.

If I were the king of the world i would have had Magnus in TF1 instead of Ironhide, he wouldnt have fallen back on Jazz when Megatron came, he would have stayed even if that meant getting ripped in half! He does have some issues like Rodney pointed out but i personally love his character

Id rather have a true hero that would die for his friends and for good then the new Jar Jar Binks.

    4. let it be known i chose ultra-magnus as my name sake for the reasons hazmat pointed out. he is a good soldier and follower. he is loyal. so am i. but like hazmat said. ultra-magnus over the twins right?

    5. Better then WANTING to be the leader and trying to kill the captain like Starscream
Also better then being an idiot that doesnt help with the mission at all (Mudflap, skids)

It would have been nice if the Transformer movies took that route, instead of the stupid juvenile humor with Jazz, the Twins and Wheelie (which i forgive, i actually like that) they would have taken the route in which Magnus was in it, and instead of stupid comedy there would have been some drama for whos going to be the leader….with Radimus, Magnus, Optimus…have optimus die…dont dumb it down like it has been.

But im not complaining I love what Bay has done, i know a lot of people are bitching right know because of the juvenile humor but i dont mind. I only care when he mixes up the names and fucks up which transformer is which.

    6. I honestly believe that the writers hated Ultra Magnus so much that they purposely scripted him as a lame character. They just made Ultra Magnus into a waste of time. Magnus screwed up everything by being completely unheroic. When questioned by his soldiers over the safety of their lost teammates, his usual responses are “I can’t deal with that now!”, or in other cases, “I have no soul”.

Ultra Magnus may be a good follower if he doesn’t have an existential crisis first or contemplate suicide.

  16. I hope we never see a running Jon Voight again in a Transformers movie, it looked like lance armstrong without any balls.

  17. The movie is getting awful reviews. If the movie is what the reviews say then I am pretty sure the next sequel will see a major dip in boxoffice just like POTC 3 from POTC2.

I bet the movie will end with 45% at RT. Worse than first movie.

The third one will drop to 30%.

Aka the quality of the franchise will keep dropping and at the end it will be worse than spider-man franchise.

I just love shitting on TF.

  18. Right now, this franchise is just riding on special effects. Hopefully they can get their act together and improve the plot in the next installment or else it looks like Transformers will head for a premature reboot.

The Dinobots are really an example of something that works well in it’s orginal source but just seems ridiculous when translated onto the screen. Although the Transformers films haven’t really been the epitome of logic, it has carried the basic theme of transforming in order to disguise, the Dinobots may violate that. However, they did include Scorponok and Ravage in their presumably unaltered Cybertonian forms so the Dinobots aren’t entirely out of the question.

I think the inclusion of Unicron is pretty much a given. The creators have already expressed interest in his inclusion and it really could work. Same goes for Galvatron, I was disappointed that they brought Megatron back so early, his fated return should have come later to introduce Unicron and Galvatron.

I would love to see the next one take place on Cybertron. Hell, bring the humans with the Transformers. That’ll help a lot of the more sci-fi oriented characters and concepts to get on-screen.

Overall, I think there’s all a possibility of these things working, but there needs to be a stronger story to make it work.

    1. Galactus WAS a cloud in some comic books. In Ultimate F4.

So you all want Galactus as a guy instead of a cloud but claim that Unicron isnt a good idea?

  19. thanks for giving us something to read on a slow news day.

I agree that megatron would have been sweet to see comeback in a third film. Step away for a minute and let everyone forget about him then surprise everyone by bringing him back. Bringing him back immediately is sort of predictable and weak. It would have been a tighter trilogy bringing him back later.

I’m disappointed by the poor reviews. I wonder if Bay has already bailed (vocally) on the third cause he knew 2 didn’t hold up. (it will still make a load of dough)

    1. It’s not too late to save yourself my Queen. I care about you too much to see you get ripped off. Just click on my name to read my review.

Folks, take it from me if you’re on the fence about whether to see it or not. It’s not worth it.

    2. Oh yeah, in case you folks were wondering about the IMAX. I couldn’t tell you if there are any extra scene you won’t get in the normal version but you get three quick little scenes in full screen shot with the IMAX camera (the fight in the forest, the formation of Devestator and a few wide shots of a pyramid). Hey, I’m sure it looks better in IMAX but it’s really nothing special.

It’s not been quite 2007 again but it has been a pretty crappy summer overall. Thank God for ‘Star Trek’ and thank God Potter is coming out. That never fails to entertain.

  20. The problem with shia and megan is that they’re horrible actors, you can’t tie with them emotionally because their acting is so robotic. If there were decent human characthers/actors, I wouldn’t whinge about them so much. In both films they distract you rather than tie you into the action, there’s one scene in the new movie where megan is being chased by a decepticon and all you can do is focus on her cleavage, that’s the problem, they are given way more screen time than they deserve. You’re correct there should be a balance but in this case, megan’s cleavage weighs the scale down way too much on the human side.

    1. Whaaaaaaaat?

Shias freaking awesome! I love watching the guy act, hes funny and hes a REAL character.

      His acting is NOT robotic.

Megan Fox is neither hot or a good actress. IMO.

Shes like- the complete possible opposite or Gwyneth Paltrow

    2. in my opinion, shia is terrible, every movie he’s in he’s the same characther again and again (which isn’t necessarily his fault he should diverge from the type casting).

I found his acting very irritating in ROTF, but at the same time, the script is terrible, it’s not like he had much to work with. But he’s my least favourite actor of this century. Most of the cast in ROTF is terrible, the voice acting behind the transformers is supberb though, I love Tony Todd!

    3. Scooby Doo is a better actor than Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf has relied on his ‘flustered’ look for the majority of his career. Neither one of them can deliver a line with any sort of sincerity, and they don’t even look like they belong together. They had zero chemistry in the original and it will probably be the same for the sequel.

    4. I have to laugh at the part in the trailer where he is telling her that they can webcam with each other to keep their long distance relationship together while he is at college. Giant robots from space are more believable.

    5. See Bobby…and Holes, and Constantine for that matter.

God, am I really going to say this…maybe Shia should’ve been Anakin Skywalker in the SW prequels…

      Dammit tho…Hayden could act once…see Life as a house…

  21. I must have read thousands of posts that said that a Transformers movie wouldn’t work, or that Watchmen wouldn’t work.

Grimlock, transformers can always fight inCybertron, doesnt have to be Earth, Autobots can still hide and turn into cars but they have to transform in order to fight, so why not have Optimus transform into a T-Rex? It would only make things 10X cooler

Galvatron, yes- in some comics Megatron actually FOUGHT galvatron, but those comic books are the stupid ones that i hate reading, that and the whole “Transformers in Marvel universe”
Galvatron isnt the same, hes way stronger then Megatron, someone here said it- theyre only keeping the name Megatron so that the people who know jack shit about transformers wont get lost while watching the movie

Unicron, he cant be compared to the F4 versiopn of Galactus, because the F4 Galactus was a failure, IF they make Unicron right, it would be epic.
A scene alone in the trailer, with a planet sized Unicron transforming next to planet Earth would be the most godlike and epic scene ever shown on the big screen. Agree to disagree but I find that the epicness in a planet sized transformer to be rather fascinating. And we all know how Unicron dies- just have the same thing happen in the movie

Again, this is Michael Bay, THIS…UNICRON…is something Bay would SO DO- a planet sized Transformer is something that has Bay written ALL OVER IT. He doesnt give a shit about the story, he KNOWS “epic” this man knows what would make the audience gasp, the story is written in comic books already, what he needs to do is translate Unicron into a movie, which is something i strongly believe he can do, and wants to do.

People were scared SHITLESS when they heard that a transformers movie was being made.
the question “How will they do this?”
When the teaser for transformers was released, i saw it in the theater- the 13 seconds in mars, a robot…and then you see
    “TRANSFORMERS”
And the whole theater litterally GROANED as in “Wow. this is going to be so stupid..TRANSFORMERS??? Really?”
But of course it came out to be epic.
    Same with Unicron.

    But thats just me

So, nothing personal Rodney, i usually agree with you but when it comes to this I strongly, and respectfully, disagree for these reasons^^^
But if your logic and insight would have been put into making the F4 movie villain Galactus, maybe that movie wouldnt have sucked. But when it comes to Transfoemrs, Im sure Bay wont make Unicron a cloud, I just know Bay is going to go epic if he decides to do this, and im 100% sure hes just dying to have Unicron in his movie.
He probably twitches and smiles and shakes every time the mere THOUGHT of having a planet sized transformer comes to his mind.

    1. My point of comparing Unicron to Galactus is that they presented a force that they had NO HOPE of ever defeating. So overwhelmingly superior that there was nothing but a silly plothole like Surfer flying up and sacrificing himself to stave off the cloud that no one could defeat.

Its cheap and it didnt work in FF2 either. Unicron would be so impossibly menacing that there would be NO way for the already underwhelming Autobots to face him short of a cheap +9 dagger of Unicron slaying that Bumblebee had laying around.

I agree, Unicron would look epic, but in theory the character is weak and very 2 dimensional. Indestructible and eats planets. By the time they even get a chance to react he has already made an appetizer out of Australia.

And I didn’t doubt for a second that they could make a good looking transformers movie. There were a number of amateur animators doing “real car transforms into robot” videos on youtube long before Bay came along. If these kids farting around could do a convincing looking bot, why not a professional studio?

I still say that the “human factor” would eliminate any chance of us seeing a storyline that takes place on Cybertron.

    2. Heres the thing with me

I like it when movies have that dooming feel to them..I like it when youre watching a movie, relate to it and almost feel like youre in it, and then KNOW that in the end the worlds going to end. I love that feeling of “The good guys can NOT win, this is doom” that war of the worlds, Armageddon, The Core and other movies had.
With Unicron they could make the 3rd movie SO MUCH BETTER if they had him, in my irrelevant opinion

      How to kill Unicron?

      Heres the answer

      The Autobot Matrix of Leadership.

      It would be epic.

      So, very, epic.

      Lol.

    3. Again. The matrix is a cheap win. There is no impending doom.

Where is the doom when we know all you gotta do is open this little metal box and the most unstoppable planet killing force in the universe is dead?

Nothing can stop it, but the power held inside this we tin can that chronicles the leadership of the Autobot caste will.

      Death by history book/lamp.

It worked in the animated film because we didn’t realize it could do that. It was a mystery, there was an impending doom. But to repeat this in the live action film (which is clearly NOT following canon with the show) is cheap.

I like that the films are not following the comics/tv show to the letter. Gives me a reason to watch it.

Many of the things people are complaining about seem to be just “why cant they do it just like the cartoon” kind of stuff.

      Why should they?

    4. But the Cube was a cheap win, HotShots chrash landing was a cheap win, Transformers is ALL about the Autobots winning with cheap miracles.
      The Matrix is nothing new.

If the decepticons have the Matrix or Unicron has the Matrix then yes, it IS doom. No one said it would be doom is the Autobots have it, im not a retard

And youre right Rodney, with this I agree: Making it just like the cartoon kills it because then we all know how it ends. But they can always change it….its SCIENCE FICTION. Give him a new way to die, give it suspense, mystery, thats whats so great about a movie, you saying that its impossible to kill Unicron is what would make it so GREAT, its a movie, id rather have him in the movie then a guy that i KNOW can be easily killed. If megatron were to face Optimus Prime and Bumblebee at once he would be destroyed.

    5. “But the Cube was a cheap win,”

Lol, I was about to point the same think out to Rodney! But, whatever…… this franchise ain’t looking to great imo. :( The first one had a really weak story imo and instead of working on that they seem to just be working on putting more robots and explosions on screen instead :/

Unless they develop a solid story then the movie franchise will be very short lived, and with it being film “2” I think it may be a little to late!

    6. I feel like all of this “cheap win” business is kind of silly… I mean, its a friggin Michael Bay film. Its not really supposed to be smart or make sense… just to be entertaining. The man made an action movie about one of the most significant events in our nation’s history for the sole purpose of entertainment.

On the topic of having Grimlock in the film… I can see it happening. I mean, the Decepticons already have TWO bots that dont exactly blend in… Skorpinok and Ravage! I wouldnt mind seeing a giant robot T-Rex stomping around downtown LA.

And finally… Galactus COULD have been a really REALLY awesome villain for the F4… but they already screwed up most of the cast and presentation anyway, so a big purple cloud seemed like a really good choice to the folks who had already messed up the film… its really all about how the material (in ANY movie) is presented. Unicron’s epic-ocity in a movie would completely depend on how he was presented.

    7. “My point of comparing Unicron to Galactus is that they presented a force that they had NO HOPE of ever defeating. So overwhelmingly superior that there was nothing but a silly plothole like Surfer flying up and sacrificing himself to stave off the cloud that no one could defeat.”

Yeah, HAZMAT. I bet you can’t name one movie where even a lowly scrappy underdog hero overcame and destroyed a giant planet sized weapon. Especially not a world famous and highly regarded movie that spawned an entire franchise and even features a sequel where the hero does it AGAIN with and even bigger planet-sized weapon. Even if the movie came out back on May 25, 1977, it would be too hard to believe. The audiences would never be into it.

(For those who don’t understand sarcasm: Death Star got blowed up by farm boy. End of argument.)

    8. Also for Dinobots, and I will be repeating myself from a previous post, but they can clearly work for the same reason that Scorpinok works.

Does Scorpinok change? No. Why? He doesn’t need to. He’s not trying to hide amongst the humans. The Decepticons do not need him to hide amongst the humans. He works just fine for them not being disguised and instead being kept in areas where humans won’t find him.

The same can be true for dinobots. They can hide in some jungle region until the autobots need their help. The autobots keep them around because they sometimes need the heavy lifting.

You get so fixated on needing a reason for their disguise as dinosaurs. Ask this, why does Scorpinok look like a scorpion. Do they ever explain that in the movie? No. Why does ravage look like a cat? Also not explained. They don’t need to explain it.

It’s true that Scorpinok does not look exactly like a scorpion in the same way that Starscream looked exactly like a jet. Maybe Scorpinok was still in his cybertronian form which happens to look like a scorpion and his name happens to sound like the word scorpion. Ok, I guess we can easily suspend that kind of disbelief and don’t feel the need to examine it that closely. And I guess the same can be true for Ravage. Maybe a cat like look is his natural cybertronian form and it just happens to resemble our world’s jungle cats. So why can’t Grimlock’s cybertronian form just happen to look like our world’s T-rex? He doesn’t have to look exactly like a T-rex, but just resemble one like Scorpinok resembles a scorpion and Ravage resembles a cat.

Now, we have dinobots whose natural cybertronian forms just happens to resemble our world’s dinosaurs and they never interact with humans because they hide in remote areas where humans aren’t common.
Yeah that’s much harder to believe than Scorpinok and Ravage who happen to look like a large scorpion and large cat and they never interact with humans because they hide in remote areas where humans aren’t common.

    9. Calviin, the Star Wars reference is a little inaccurate.

That “farm boy” didnt just randomly on his own decide he suddenly had the power to defeat this unstopppable force.

-The spies and engineers of the Rebellion worked hard to find a weakness.

-Any one of those trained and seasoned fighter pilots could have made it to the end of that trench. That was the point of the attack.

-The Rebels were exploiting a weakness and it is a common theme in Star Wars that the Empire’s greatest weakness is their overconfidence (they have 1831 TIE Fighters, 2904 TIE Assault Craft, 806 TIE Boarding Craft 1384 Scouts Ships on the Death Star but when 30 Rebel ships attack they only send out 30 to fight them?)

-Luke didn’t do it on his own. He would have been shot down like so many of his flight wing were if Han hadn’t returned from his greedy retreat to take a cheap shot at Vader thereby clearing his way.

The David and Goliath motif is clear in Star Wars, as it was in Transformers. But to compare that to Unicron like you have is not very accurate.

    10. I disagree. I understand that Luke had more going for him than just his farm boy skills. He had all that you mentioned. But yet still similarly, Sam would have more than his school boy charm to help him. Autobots and decepticons could work together in their common interest of continued existence. I don’t feel I need to flesh out an entire script to prove my point, but if the decepticons were to try and summon Unicron in the expectation that they could control him as a weapon, only to find that they too become victims, then they work together to defeat him. Maybe they know or learn of some achilles heel that he has. Maybe the decpticons know the weakness but only one of the autbots can abuse it. Maybe the leaders of each of the side (decepticons and autobots) were instilled long ago during their creation by Primus with a key to stopping Unicron. Working together to stop a greater evil is easily a classic plot device and often successful. Hell, some of here at TMB had hoped that The Fallen would need to be stopped by Megatron and Optimus working together. The Fallen himself is canonically supposed to be Unicron’s number one follower which should show two things. First, they’re already one step away from Unicron, and two, he is one of the original thirteen Transformers created by Primus. He’s already more powerful than the Autobots but they manage to defeat him anyway.

I compare Unicron to the Deathstar because the Deathstar was supposed to be the most destructive force in the galaxy. So is Unicron. The Deathstar was easily defeated NOT because Luke had anything particularly superior to it, but because he learned of the weakness and was given the tool to abuse it. Watch me rewrite with only two changes. “Unicron was easily defeated NOT because Sam had anything particularly superior to it, but because he learned of the weakness and was given the tool to abuse it.” See how easy that is?

    1. ……just think how much it would cost to create Unicron IF they used him I mean the budget would have to be enormous to detail him and the rest of the Transformers, but one character I would like to see brought in a third film would be Shockwave.
