Schwarzenegger in talks for part in Predators

Seems the Predator reboot by Robert Rodriguez is turning out to be a direct sequel to the first film and in an effort to solidify that, they are in talks with Schwarzenegger to reprise his role as Dutch.

Worst Previews says:

“They’ve written a role for him. Rodriguez is as against the idea of a straight-up remake as much as anyone – which is why they’re considering this an official sequel to John McTiernan’s film. Like Terminator, they know Schwarzenegger’s a vital ingredient of the franchise. Ideally, Arnold will see it that way too. Ball is in his court now.”

Dutch could be called in to offer some guidance or some other role that will keep him out of the action. It will be a nice tie to keep this linked with the first movie and secure that this isn’t a remake.

Just like in Terminator, there will be a nostalgic charm to having Arnie on board but people seem to think it will make the movie. This is aiming to be more than just a cameo, but still not much. Its nice to include him, but the film has to hold itself up.

  1. Any ties to Dany Glover’s character in P2? is this right after the first and before the second one, or after those 2 films? it sounds cool so far.

  2. Huh? Robert Rodriguez is directing this? I don’t know. He really doesn’t seem to have a flair for interesting Sci-Fi. Or even true action star movies. Most of his films, his adult ones anyway, are all just full of hot girls and guns. I mean sure there has been some zombies here and aliens there, but nothing on the level of Predator, the Alien movies, or really anything like that.

But, I guess if he does screw it up, it can’t be any worse then the AVP movies, can it…?

  3. I just finished reading Robert Rodriguez’s 1996 script. SPOILERS AHOY! TURN BACK NOW! I’M WARNING YOU! YOU CANNOT BLAME ME IF YOU READ FURTHER!
    You have been warned.
It definitely calls Arnold back as the action star. And yes, there is a speederbike chase. But I hope the movie doesn’t turn out like the script. To me, it ruined one of my (perhaps others’?) greatest attraction to the Predators; that they are honorable warriors that guide mankind in a subtle way. Not being completely allies, but not being enemies either. The script made them seem more like mindless killing machines or, dare I say, space terrorists. It also felt much more like an Alien movie rather than a Predator movie.

    1. well the last 2 movies avp sucked balls cause they kinda half assed the concept of both species (which have a huge fanbase) predators where not all hardcore hunters…they had engineers and docotrs etc shit…just its not really touched on in the movies.

  4. Not so much about Predators, but remakes of movies from the 80s. I just read they got a writer for a Short Circuit remake!

Hope Arnold does make a cameo in the new Predator movie. Though I am not particularly eager to see him in a lead role ever again, I am always happy to see him make cameos in franchises he helped start, digital or real.

    1. That’s from Commando.

I’m still looking forward to the day when they make that sequel and Schwarzenegger is only a cameo…as Alyssa Milano blows up shit, kicks ass, leaves a body count and takes names!

  5. Schwarzenneger is the MAN!!!
My age kept me from seeing him in the theater except for Terminator 3…
I long to be able to see him on the BIG screen!

    Come on Arnie!!

  6. Wow, why did I not know about this film being made before today? I am really pleased to hear they’re making another Predator movie. Arnie would just be a nice bonus.

I think that in the Predator franchise, Arnie is not a “vital” part, unlike say the Terminator films. I really wish that we got a few more Predator sequels over the years with Predators taking on all manner of great warriors on Earth. I liked the direction they took with Predator 2, where it really opened the possibility to have Predator in a lot of different settings, taking on a lot of different opponents. It also took it beyond being just another ‘Arnold’ franchise. Too bad it never happened went much further until AVP. There’s a lot of potential for some fun Predator films. And each one could pretty much just stand alone, as opposed to being a ‘sequel’.

So Arnie being in this would be cool, but not essential. I agree the film has to hold itself. I just hope they make full use of the cool potential of Predator.

    1. A second sequel has been in talks for years, I’m surprised this is your first time hearing it.

Over the years, there were several ideas, but there are two I recall reading about. One involves Schwarzenegger’s character, Dutch, hunting a Predator (or vice versa) in New York City during a blizzard. And another involves a group of Marines attempting to thwart the Predator’s planned invasion of Earth by going to their home world.

  7. Predators was always meant to be a sequel. its the Online fan community that mis-understood and started calling it a remake. There’s even an old draft of the script from 2000 or around there, that Rodriquez did, called Predators, and from everything I hear in regards to the project, it would seem that his current draft isn’t far off from that one.

    1. If that’s the case Slushie Man, can you give a brief outline of the plot from that draft? Where is it set? Who is being hunted?

I don’t know if Predator needs a ‘sequel’, but it could be interesting to see what the idea is. Only thing I’m not real keen on is the plural term… I don’t think we need multiple Predators. They’re lone hunters, looking for sport… not your cookie-cutter alien invaders.

    2. In defense of Slushie:

It is well known that before AvP, there was a third Predator film in development. Robert Rodriguez was attached to it as a writer/director for a short time. I’m not sure how far he gotten on his drafts before the cord was yanked from the socket, but if my memory serves correct it also involved Dutch.

It also should be said that Dutch was also intended to be in the sequel but wound up being written out. As for Schwarzenegger, considering the way things are going for him and the mess with CA, I’d roll the dice and say, yeah. They can get him.

He may be out of a job soon.
Kind of like…the rest of CA.

    3. I remember hearing that it would involve arnold and danny glovers character as well and there was talk that they take a trip to the predator home world and the big action scene was to be a “speeder bike” chase.

Predator does not need directs sequels, there are so many other stories that they can do with them. they dont always have to hunt arnold.

    4. thats not true they are not lone hunters…actually in the book and comic storyline they usually are considereed very tribal and hunt in packs.

    5. Sorry, I just re-read my post, and realised that it sounded as if I was doubting you Slushie. Not the case at all dude! Sorry for any misunderstanding there if I sounded really rude.

I was actually just really interested if you had read it to find out a little bit more about what this movie might be about. I wasn’t doubting what you said at all.

  8. When is officially out of office? I thought he said once the only way studios might get him right now is if all filming was done in California? If this is slated to start filming after he leaves office, they might be able to get him
