Look At Mickey Rourke As Whiplash

The first image of Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in the upcoming Iron Man 2 has hit the web over at USA Today. I remember a little while ago it was reported that Rourke originally turned down the role because he didn’t think the money was good enough… I thought he was an idiot. Turns out he’s a whole lot smarter than his advisers were and he took the gig. Good news for all of us!

So it’s another guy with a power suit? Not sure I’m excited about that… but it’s just a picture so I won’t read too much into it just yet.

  1. This looks like a still from a unmade 1980’s Tom Savini/George Romero low-budget revival of the sword-and-sandal gladiators. Taking place in Russia, but shot in Pennsylvania. With a soft metal soundtrack.

Or more simply — awful. It looks awful.

  2. I cant wait to see pictures of Gwyneth God Paltrow in ironman 2

    <3<3!

I bet she can do a perfect split and wrestle, i bet shes got like a 189 IQ…and can tap dance

  3. you guys are hilarious. One photo, and you’re already complaining.

If you read what Favreau said, he wanted Mickey because he wanted somebody who has a lot of charisma, to stand opposite of Downey, because he has a strong presence.

The photo looks good to me. He looks like a russian convict. Those russian tattoo’s are great.

  4. Just for your information, but this cinematic version of Whiplash (or more Blacklash, but whatever) is incorporating things from the character of Dynamo. That’s where the whole power suit thing comes from. He will have a power suit, but also some badass whips. I haven’t read all comments here, so someone may have said that, but I’ll say it again :)

  5. This movie is called Iron Man 2.

    Not Killraven.

    :)

Seriously folks, I look at the pic, I also notice the background. Looks like Rourke is suited “down” and taking a small break is all.

BTW, a comic book villain in ANY film is about as bad ass as the filmmakers make them out to be.

  6. This is pretty much bang on. There is no reason for him to get any more armor, in fact his entire role in the film could serve to show that criminals with some genius or connections have gotten hold of Stark weapon technology and are starting to develop new things from it in response to Iron Man.

Whiplash could simply be a villain given these basic weapons, catches Iron Man by surprise but gets defeated which sends Stark on a quest to start rounding up any other weapons being developed (such as Crimson Dynamo – consider Whiplash a ‘test’ villain that Hammer sets out)

  7. This picture is really weird. Rourke looks like shit in the face, not that he ever was a very hansom man, but damn does he look bad here. I guess it’s part of the character. But that hair, lol, wow, it’s just awful, makes him look like a run away Mad Max extra.

As for the, what looks like the making of a super suit, I was expecting this. Think he had one in the comics too. It doesn’t look bad, I just hope that’s just like a prototype and he’ll have a more “complete” suit as the movie progresses and that it’ll look badass.

I’m also guessing those handle like things at his hands are his whips.

  8. Whiplash always looked like some S&M Freak.
Curious to see how he get Tony Starks chest plate power thingy. Obviously, this movie will be Russian themed since we also have Johansen playing the Black Widow. Can’t wait to see her in skin tight black spandex!

  9. The question people should be asking is how does he get the Arc Power Supply? Very important plot devise if Hammer stole Stark tech. That opens a lot of possibilities for super criminals. Dynamo will make a spot if that is the case. I like where this is heading.

  10. I like that you can see all of his Russian Prison Tattoos. He’s a dirty evil lookin’ dude. I can’t wait to see the Electric Whiplashes!

  11. You cant see his hands, i think there are samurai swords attach to it. He will become a good side kick villian + Sam Rockwell as the dangerous cyber nerd villian. This is going to be the bomb. But with these 2 villians and Scarlet a the third will this not have a Spiderman 3 effect ?

    1. What are you talking about- he looks exactly like how he looked in the comic books

Sometimes he had tights or a cape, but in some he looked JUST like this.

  12. I like the look of the armor i don’t think it looks great i bet spicle affects will help that out im really buzzing about Iron man 2 i loved the first one. Mickey Rourke will be great as Whiplash but so will Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer he is the real bad guy in the comics.

Comic book movie are becoming better and Marvel is doing a great job and i am looking forward to see how Thor and Captain America tune out to and The Green Lantern i heard the it has been moved to june 2011 WB must relly want to compete with Marvel.

looking forward to see all of these movies who knows maby Christopher Nolan to do Batman 3 than the next 4 years are going to be huge for comic book movies

  13. Rourke demanded more money and he deservedly got what he wanted. If I were him, I would be a fool to accept the 500k for the role.

This picture doesn’t look very good to me though. The costume just appears cheap and tacky.

  14. Not at all impressed. Of all the amazing villains and possibilities, this can’t possibly be the best available. It just doesn’t look at all good or even realistic considering the first movie.

  15. Oh- and this one better have more action

I was amazed at the lack of action in ironman

I was shocked…i mean…its a fucking ironman movie i WANT at least 4 action scenes!

  16. All Ironman needs to do is punch this fucker in the face once and hes got a tumor and internal bleeding….IF his skull didnt cave in

I want to see the REAL villain, Dynamo!

Wait, Dynamo IS in this movie right?

    1. I don’t think Crimson Dynamo is in this movie. Rourke is playing the charcter of Whiplash and there hasn’t been any other confirmed cast playing Dynamo.

Just another question: Is Mandarin still in this movie?

    2. No- wha- shish- NOOOO!

Then whos going to fight ironman!?

Justin Hammer!? Great- Justin can always make Tony’s stock go down 3.6 points..HOW PERFECT FOR AN ACTION MOVIE

Okay- i am praying to god youre wrong, because Dynamo is the only dude that can really fight ironman…Blacklash ive always found to be a pussy

I hope that the Mandarin never ever shows up but the first ironman movie had mandarins name all over it….so maybe

    3. I really do hope I’m wrong, I would have thought that Mandarin or Crimson Dyanamo would have been the obvious choice for Iron Man 2 but so far it doesn’t look like it is.

    4. Remember that this is just an early image of Whiplash, and very likely he will get armoured pieces.

And despite the frank logic that Ironman could physically assault this guy and instantly win, keep in mind that Spiderman (stronger and faster than Ironman) and he fought against Dr Octopus who was just a chubby man with some extra mechanical arms.

And that was the best combat in all three movies.

Don’t discount him because he doesn’t have a power suit. I bet he will be able to do some very cool things with those whips.

      1. Justin Hammer poses a rival for Stark. One of the great things about the Iron Man books has always been that there was just as much a story for Stark as there was for Iron Man.

Also in the comics, it was Hammer who recruited Whiplash to go after Iron Man in the first place.

  17. I’m sorry, I love Mickey, but this picture just looks stupid to me. I wasn’t very fond of the first film though, I like the character (Iron Man, Batman, and Captain America are my 3 favorites), I usually love Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges is often awesome, I just didn’t think they were in Iron Man. The sequel has potential though, but this photo isn’t too promising, in my opinion. They should do the Tony Stark alcoholic stuff, that’d probably be most interesting, does anyone remember if they’re doing the demon in a bottle arc in this film?

    1. Its been hinted at. They have made the point of having him drinking quite often in a subtle lead up.

I am glad they are not diving into it, but I wouldnt count it out. Its the most influential story in this book. They will likely hit on it sooner or later.
