Angelina Jolie in Wanted 2?

I really enjoyed the over the top action of Wanted, and though I never got around to the graphic novel, I found the movie was a fun ride. Despite the awesome presence that Angelina Jolie gave in that movie (damn she was sexy in that) but it was James McAvoy that proved himself as a viable action star which I didn’t see coming.

Now there is talk about a sequel with Jolie and McAvoy returning.

There be SPOILERS!!! If you haven’t seen the first movie, and don’t want it ruined, you might want to stop reading.

MTV Splashpage offers:

While Jolie seems to indicate in no uncertain terms that her character isn’t likely to return for a sequel, there’s always the chance that she was being coy and didn’t want to reveal anything about the plot, right? Well, that’s not all that has us scratching our heads.

Back in November 2008, we brought you the news of an interview Jolie gave the L.A. Times in which she discussed her final scene in the film.

“In the original, she doesn’t kill herself,” said Jolie. “I actually changed the ending. I said, ‘If she was to find out she had killed people unjustly and was a part of something that wasn’t fair, then she should take her own life.’”

So it sounds like it was Jolie that steered the result of that final bullet which certainly seemed to exclude her from the possibility of a sequel.

I don’t know how they expect to make a sequel out of this without playing with continuity. But honestly, as much as I liked the first movie (and Jolie in it) I don’t think I would care if she was in the sequel, and considering how and we she went out in the first, I think it would take away from the film if she WAS in it for more than a flashback.

  1. What if Fox returns but not Jolie. More like the codename of Fox. Kinda of like a passing of generation to generation with a new girl and maybe more attitude like the Fox from the graphic novel. I say if anything for a sequel give Wesley his bad ass suit from the graphic novel. If they can put it in the game then they can put it in the sequel.

  2. I could really care less if Jolie returns for #2. My only concern is that McAvoy returns, they can find other eye candy to compliment him in the film.

  3. McAvoy was awesome as the annoyed with his life regular office guy turned emotionless assassin role.
an i loved how sexy Jolie was in this movie so i hope there is a way they can tie her in without breaking the continuity of the film.we didn’t really get to know her back story other than glimpse at her tragic past.so I want more Jolie.

  4. I hated the film, thought it was stupid junk.

As for Jolie coming back, I could care less-but that one scene at the end pretty much made it cut and dry. Unless the character had a twin sister or after passing through so many skulls, the curved bullet didn’t have a big impact and she’s in a coma or something.

Since it is told from one characters POV, there *could* be a slight retcon/contradiction, but hey, I thought the film was retarded. So if it was retarded, having one more dumb retarded thing won’t make a huge difference. Hey, y’ know, we had keyboards break up to drop F bombs, right?

I’m not looking forward to it, but trust me, they CAN get away with all sorts of retarded stuff.

  5. Cool. I loved the movie, and I’m am looking forward to the sequel. I don’t mind her being in the film as part of a flashback, but I would like to see Wesley uncovering his father’s past. That would great.

Also, if they bring her back, they should make her eat some more pie…just saying

  6. I sure don’t mind if Fox is back, hell they don’t even have to explain the end of the 1st …all I know is Angelina Jolie is back and she will have more scenes with just a towel on,…there problem fixed.

  7. McAvoy better be back, but I would prefer Jolie not. As you said, John, she had the script rewritten so she would die and bringing her back would lessen the effect she had at the end of the first movie.

  8. **SPOILER WARNING**

At the end of Wanted, I was constantly expecting to see her over MCAvoy’s shoulder popping up out of the regenerative tub as he was giving his final voiceover, just because I figured they’d want her around for a sequel.

    1. Don’t really care if she comes back or not, but you may have touched on how they bring her back. Regenerative tub! Maybe Wesley tossed her in one before she died. Although, it didn’t seem to help Mouse when he was mortally wounded.

  9. The first one was nothing like the comic book.

The flying bullets that curve was so out of left field, and the flying from building to building…where the fuck did that come from?

I liked it though…but nothing like what i read in the novel

    1. I don’t get the gripe from fans of the graphic novel complaining about how unrealistic the entire curve bullet thing is. Shit talks about the league traveling through the multiverses to kill all iterations of heroes throughout each universe. The graphic novel is way out of left field, so to add more outlandishness to an outlandish movie I had zero problems with. Both the movie and graphic novel are entertaining in their own regard.

I mean really? You wear this pin showing you are part of the fraternity and your untouchable by the law? The graphic novel mentions the rape of high ranking movie star and has a scene of walking into a police station and killing all the police in it just because he can do it and get away with it. Pretty crazy shit.

    2. I didn’t have a problem with the direction they took the movie in. They stayed true to the overall premise and feel of the graphic novel, but wasn’t as over the top. Unlike characters (Batman, Spiderman and Wolverine) that people are familiar, the characters in the graphic novel was for real comic book heads. Sure most of the characters in the book were direct copies of well known characters in other books, but the general public wouldn’t get it. I actually thought that the secret society of assassins with special powers was a good way to go.

  10. I thought they did a great job with the first one. It was a perfect example of how to make a lesser know comic/graphic novel into a movie. The first half of the movie was very faithful to the book, almost scene for scene. I like the fact that when they broke from the broke from the Super Hero mythos they continued to stay true to the overall feel of the books. Of course like most movies it had its problems, but still ended up being a fun time at the theater. It also passed the “Wife Test”. The wife isn’t a huge action/comic movie fan but she actually like this movie very much. Hell, I even convinced her to read the graphic novel and she loved it too.

Rodney, if you get a chance you really should pick up the book. It’s a great read.
