Dirty Harry Sleeps With The Fishes

Eastwood Clint Training-1It looks like despite the rumors, another Dirty Harry film will not be happening. We get the skinny from Clint himself, via Clint at the moviehole:

A month or so ago, we reported that Clint Eastwood’s new flick “Gran Torino” would be a moving dramedy about an old codger, an immigrant friend and the geezer’s beloved car – and not a new “Dirty Harry” movie, as had been rumoured.

And it’s unlikely the “Dirty Harry” rumour will ever rear it’s head again. Clint Eastwood, joining star Angelina Jolie for an interview with AZ Central for “The Changeling”, says “Dirty Harry would not be on the police department at my age, so we’ll move on from that.”

Harry has retired! I think this makes sense, and it was good of Mr. Eastwood to put the rumor to rest once and for all.

I am saddened that Clint is getting older. When he leaves this world, we will all be down a quart of macho. Luckily for us he is going to still live for another 50 years; because he scares the grim reaper.

Although it sucks that he isn’t doing Dirty ever again, it will be cool to see him in roles that reflect his age. I love films with seniors as the protagonist. Old surly dudes need to get way more respect and work – and Clint may be just the man to remind everyone why.

  1. Slushie, unlike other aging actors, Eastwood doesn’t need a new ‘Dirty Harry’ film to rely on. He is correct in saying the character, should he play him, would not be an active member of the police force. He also is still a draw of sorts with his directing efforts, most of which he has concentrated on.

This may or may not rule out video games, as Eaastwood lent his voice as Inspector Callahan for the game based on Dirty Harry a few years ago; I won’t also rule out a “Superman Returns” concept where a timelne is upped and the role is recast- but Eastwood could direct.
(I don’t see it coming, but that’s a loose possibility)

In any case…do we “need” Dirty Harry?
    Aren’t there enough revenge pictures?
Aren’t there enough renegade cop films?
If WB really, really wanted one, name something that begins with an R and has a K and an E in it, and isn’t the word rake.

  2. It wouldn’t be the first time an actor’s said ‘No, no more will be made’, and then two weeks later we hear about how they signed on for a new entry in that series.
