Dark Knight Animated Tie Gotham Knight will be a book too.

As if I needed a buildup to get me excited about Batman:The Dark Knight, an animated movie prequel will be released, and Titan Books will be publishing the official novelisation: Batman: Gotham Knight.

IESB.net says:

An exciting new venture helmed by a startling array of distinguished directors and producers, Batman: Gotham Knight weaves together six interlocking stories to explore Bruce Wayne’s journey from Batman to The Dark Knight. This official tie-in is written by freelance DC writer Louise Simonson, and based on the story scripts penned by comics elite including Brian Azzarello and Greg Rucka.

I am certain that John gave me this story to write about because I am the only TMB staffer who reads books.

But really, I like the idea of this bridge novel. I just wonder how it will tie in. How much time has passed?

In the final moments of Batman Begins we see Gordon offering up some evidence for Batman to consider about a new criminal with a “flare for the theatrics” and by the playing card we are clearly lead to believe that this is about the Joker.

Unless you live on the moon, or you are Amish, you know that The Dark Knight will revolve around the Joker as the main villain. So how much story will there be from the introduction of the Joker to Batman actually doing something about him?

I am actually looking forward to the book instead of the animated tie-in. Gotham Knight will be on my reading list and will be bought first day. What about you?

  1. Well I for one am greatly looking forward to both the book and the DVD. As an avid anime fan this is right up my ally and I’ve always wanted to see a kick ass Batman anime done by some great artiests, writers, and directors, which is exactly what Gotham Knight is going to be. I’ve seen the making of video for the animated project about a month ago on YouTube. It really is quite something, should check it out.

All the writers, directors, and producers involved are putting allot of heart and soul into this thing. They all seem to share a deep love and understanding for the world and characters of Batman. And allot of the same animators who worked on the Animatrix are working on this aswell. Some very intresting characters are going to pop up in these 6 stories, some of my all time fav Batman villains.

As a huge Batman fan, anime or not, I think this project is going to be something truely amazing. By the way, the DVD hits store shelves in June, so I’m guessing the graphic novel comes out about then too for anyone who was wondering. Can’t freakin’ wait.

  2. I know Ledgers family is looking forward to this film since he put his heart and soul into this role as the Joker so if they cut anything I think it would piss them off. Ledger with know doubt in my mind will kick ass as the Joker if you watch the trailer 2 in slow motion you can see how well and deep Ledger is in his character. I really think Ledger in away became the Joker. There are a lot of great actors that become there character and they are some of the greatest ones for example Daniel Day Lewis.

Ledger wins an Oscar for this role could happen I didn’t think Depp would be nominated for Sparrow so this is not too far fetched.

  3. Ok did anyone see the trailer for Gotham Knight? Its gonna be a japanese anime style movie. Some of it looked ok but most of what was shown really didnt intrest me. Im skipping the DVD cause it just not what I want to see. Althou the fact that they are turning it to a novel does intrest me cause then I be judging more on the stories than the gimmick of the dramatic art style change. I think it be much better however to turn Gotham Knight into a grafic novel.

  4. Theres a rumor going around about a scene from TDK being cut that has Heath Ledgers Joker. Supposedly at screenings some people reacted negatively to the scene because of Ledgers recent death. This is garbage if they touch his performance, no matter how the scenes may look in hindsight.

  5. I think ill watch the animated movie, i like the animated series from the 90s so if it is in that kind of style ill watch it.
if its not ill probably let it pass and watch the dark knight.

  6. I can’t wait for the animated movie. The guy that voices Batman for it is the same guy that did it for the 90’s TAS, and it has many of the same cast and crew behind it.

  7. Well after reading all the articles I think Dark Knight is bigger than Indiana Jones. I think Bond 22 yea to lazy to write it out will beat Indiana Jones. Dark Knight does not even need any more previews or comics or animated movie to promote how big this film will be.

I think sadly that some of this films gross will be to the Late Heath Ledger.
