It looks like Jason Reitman will be teaming up with Jim Carrey for a comedy entitled Pierre Pierre. We get the scoop this morning from the mysterious caves of yahoo:
Jim Carrey is teaming with “Juno” director Jason Reitman on a comedy titled “Pierre Pierre.” The story centers on a self-indulgent French nihilist (Carrey) who is entrusted to transport a stolen Mona Lisa and in the process falls back in love with his homeland.
“Pierre Pierre” will not be the Oscar-nominated Reitman’s next project, but it is being eyed as a potential vehicle after the possible actors strike in the summer. Reitman is currently producing “Jennifer’s Body,” a dark comedy-horror written by “Juno” scribe Diablo Cody.
I have great interest in seeing Jim Carrey play a French Nihilist. For the little I know about this character, I already love him and look forward to seeing if Carrey’s interpretation matches what I am currently picturing in my minds eye. If he wears a beret and/or a turtleneck I will laugh my ass off.
It has been a while since Carrey came out with a quality comedy so he is certainly due. Carey has 3 projects lined up in 2009 so I would hazard a guess that we will see this film come to fruition in 2010; it will be here soon enough. The Big Lebowski has taught us many things, and one truth is that nihilists are comedy gold.
Gawd, I hate actors doing fake French accents. Ugh.
You want a “quality comedy” from Carrey and then hope for him to embrace the most obvious and trite stereotype possible: wearing a beret and turtleneck… yikes. Also not likely from Reitman who has demonstrated in his two films an avoidance of obvious clap-trap.
Isn’t Carrey’s career kind of yesterday’s news? I suppose Reitman is a daring, left of center and perhaps brillaint choice for career revival.
Anyone wanting to read the screenplay, let me know.
I’m not looking forward to this. Jim Carrey in a comedy role just do it for me anyway. He seems to play the exact same role in every comedy film and after the 18th time it starts to get a little tiring.
As the Rose City’s most prominent nihilist, I trust your judgement on this film, Nagy.
I wonder if it will be nominated for a Genie?
