Holy Sweet Baby J! What week would be complete without an announcement for another Wayans’ Bros. production! We get the skinny from our friends at comingsoon:
Keenen Ivory, Shawn and Marlon Wayans have set up one of their signature spoof films at Paramount Pictures. Variety says the three brothers wrote and will star in the sendup of cop actioners. Keenen Ivory Wayans, who helmed the first two films in the brothers’ “Scary Movie” franchise, will direct.
The trio will produce the untitled film alongside longtime producing partner Rick Alvarez.
Here you go kids – a spoof movie about Police movies. Police films are already spoofs of real life police officers, so this will be a spoof of a spoof. That is lots of spoof for your money. Police Academy 1,2 and 3 are all fantastic films and have set the bar when it comes to cop comedy as far as I am concerned. If you are going to make a cop comedy, you better be able to hold up to Academy or don’t bother getting out of bed.
As a rule, people on the boards here have not been enthused about the Wayans’ films and/or future projects. For the most part, I am with them. As a rule, (and as I have said many times before) I have a strong dislike for most spoof films. Although I am enthused to see the elder Keenen on board. I am a fan of his, and hope he is able to channel some of the magic that birthed In Living Color to this upcoming project.
