Charlie Wilson’s War Bumps Up Release Date

2HanksWith so many films fighting for your Yuletide dollars, it appears that Charlie Wilson has decided to start the war early! We get news of the date change from the fabled and ancient caves of yahoo:

The Universal Pictures movie, in which Tom Hanks plays a Texas congressman who becomes involved in covert activities in Afghanistan, will open in more than 2,000 theaters on December 21 rather than waiting until Christmas Day. The studio said “people are really enjoying the movie,” and there was “no reason ” not to take advantage of an earlier release slot.

“Charlie” will face off against a crowded field that currently includes Disney’s action-adventure sequel “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” Warner Bros.’ romance “P.S., I Love You,” DreamWorks/Paramount’s musical “Sweeney Todd” and Sony’s comedy “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.”

I am not a big fan of watching films over the holiday season, but apparently many are. This holiday season is packed with heavy hitters and it is no surprise to me that the Hank’s film has decided to get a jump on the competition and maximize the dollar$. When Tom Hanks is on board – you need to make some money.

I am not looking forward to this film, but will give it a review when it’s upon us. Political drama does not tend to entertain me; because I am able to see better in real life. What movie will be able to rival Sen. Larry Craig’s political drama of trying to explain his attempts at bathroom romance. The answer is none.

  1. You know, it’s not being mentioned that much, but I believe that this script was penned by Aaron Sorkin (he of West Wing and American President fame). I think he’s proven that he does politics well. The story isn’t his, but dialog is his strong suit anyway.

Also, to your statement about a movie being unable to compete with reality… I think this is based on a true story (Which isn’t saying much considering how they tend to butcher true stories. Still you see my point.).

Between Sorkin and the cast, I think it will be worth checking out. I’m looking forward to your review.
