The TVShow Blog needs you!

The sister site to the Movie Blog, The TVShow Blog is now recruiting new writers for the upcoming seasons. The site is still in its “Beta” stages and we are still refining its flavour, and you can be a part of it.

There was a call for writers on this site before and we took limited applicants. The response was overwhelming but we chose specific shows to cover, and with the limited release of shows in the summer, there were few to write about. This coming season is going to be huge, so we need a bigger team.

If you can commit to the TVShow Blog and want to share your enthusiasm for your favourite shows, we could be looking for you to volunteer to write entries there!

Writers must commit to at least one season of a show, and be able to seek out and write about your show at least twice a week. That’s all.

Think you can handle it? If you want to write for the TVShow Blog on any of these shows email Rodney and let me know why you want to write for us!

Put only the show name in the subject line and please send only one email per show you wish to apply for.

  1. I will clarify this one last time. With the overwhelming response we got the first time I recruited 20 or so writers for 20 different shows. 6 or so of which resulted in actual committed writers. I clearly stated that a lack of response would indicate that you were not being considered at that time. I had over 200 writers applying, most of which were all for the same 3 shows.

I apologize that I didn’t respond to each and every one with a polite “Sorry, we didn’t pick you” letter. I was a little over my head with the unexpected response we got.

And honestly Meiran, I don’t know how much more open I can get with an offer for people to apply to whatever show they were passionate about.

We are still in the stages of setting the tone for the site, and even the existing style of posts are going to be tweaked to conform with the new direction.

We don’t want “writers” or “reviewers”. We want fans. People who care about the show they get to write for. If you have feelings about a show, feel free to apply. The limitations your query suggests are moot.

  2. The trick is, I would write for any number of shows, even if I didn’t like them. I’m actually a pretty experienced reviewer, so loving or hating a show wouldn’t really enter into it. But to be honest, the complete lack of response to the first barrage of emails was so disheartening I don’t feel like it’s worth writing again. A simple “We’re sorry, but we’ve decided to go with somebody else” or a “thank you for applying” would be kind. As it stands, most of us wouldn’t know if you even RECEIVED what we sent you. Since this happened in the midst of me applying for a new job, when I never received email confirmations of those applications either, it’s a sore sticking point with me. You should at least give people the courtesy of knowing their message was received, since email is not the most reliable form of communication.

Also, since you have no list of the shows you would be interested in covering, only those that are already taken, then I wouldn’t know where to start. Some idea of what type of shows you’re looking for would be nice. Are you interested in reality shows at all? The competitive reality shows? Only shows with a Sci-Fi bent? 24 is the only exception to that currently. Only shows that are receiving excellent ratings? Ones that are in their second season at the least?

You’d receive more of the type of applicants you are looking for if you were more open about what you wanted.

  3. I love to write and I love TV. My favorite shows last year were Lost, Heroes, and the Amazing Race. I have no idea what shows I’ll like this year. Journeyman sounded interesting until they revealed more of the premise; now it sounds too much like Early Edition. I subscribed to the TV Show Blog for awhile, but gave up because of the necessity for wading through too many posts about shows I don’t care about. Maybe when you fix the problems, you’ll get more applicants. Right now, it’s a little too free-form, inconsistent, and irrelevant.

  4. I have a diploma in Journalism and another one in Public Relations and I wasn’t good enough to get an e-mail back.

Aw well…won’t stop be reading. Maybe I’ll apply again for shits and giggles.

  5. Santana, you do yourself the disservice by assuming that I do not read every email I receive.

Rest assured that I will be choosing our contributors based on the very qualities you presume I am overlooking.

  6. I didn’t apply – but I think that you should at least send an e-mail to every applicant (chosen or not) to ensure them that you did indeed take the time to look at their application. The way you have it setup with the titles being the subject makes it seem like you look at the title and then if it isn’t a desirable show you simply delete it without inquiring into the contents. I think you may be doing yourselves a disservice using this method because you may be missing out on some of the most creative and charismatic writers (who could really write about anything you assign) by simply choosing popular subject matter rather than delving into the possibilities of really establishing yourselves as a site with top notch writing. Just my opininon.

  7. Its not dead. Its just resting.

We are still working out the kinks, and with the launch happening in the summer, there has been a lack of content. (Summer shows are limited)

With the new season we are expecting a lot more momentum. And we have been avoiding exposure until we get things sorted out, and with exposure there will be more traffic and more participation.

  8. Jeff, from the looks of things, USA will bring ‘Burn Notice’ back. They have also made more than six shows. I think the number is 11 or 12 eps. Seasons on USA (and sci-fi) are wierd; most new “seasons” are in the summer.

BTW, I asked to take party to TV blog and, like several other fine folks, got in. The only minor downside is that Rodney has to do a lot of email cut & paste.

As for myself…yes, I been a slacker. But in the past month I’ve changed ISPs, the email problem has actually increased (which is why I contact folks at MB/TVB through my yahoo address) and there has been an increase in my workload of daily day to day life (Note that there is a lack of COMMENTS on my part regarding TMB and MBComm of late. It’s not because I’m becoming anti-social,although maybe i should be…). My main thing will be ‘Law & Order’, of course, and I’ll be able to pick that up when the new season (s) begin. ‘Dead Zone’ is the other show I currently cover…here’s the thing on ‘Dead Zone’.

I think it’s jumped the shark.

I’ll stick with TV blog for awhile, but with all due respect to Rodney, I think the TV Blog is a bust. More participation could help (yeah, yeah, I know, I’m the goffball to talk…) but in the long run…?

  9. Are you going to have more than one writer on a series, because if someone is writing about ‘Smallville’ and I wanted to write about it, would I be kicked to the curb?

Also, wouldn’t mind writing for USA’s ‘Burn Notice’ but I think they only made 6 episodes this season – best show and cast in perhaps a very long time! Or Scifi’s ‘Eureka’ – awsome show: humor, wit and morality issues with a twist and damn funny too. I posted a blog about ‘Burn Notice’ sometime ago on the Community board – check it out if interested/

    Sounds like fun.

  10. The site is not down, and the link is corrected.

If you want to apply again, please feel free. Not all applicants will be selected, and not all shows applied for will be covered.

I will do my best to make sure we cover as many shows as we can.
