Leonardo DiCaprio is an actor who haw grown on me a lot the last few years. Like most people, following Titanic I hated the very sight of his face. He was just a teen Idol glam boy flash in the pan to me (and a lot of people). What I didn’t notice was that he was also loaded to the man tits with talent. Now he’s doing something a little different with his environmental documentary “The 11th Hour”.
I first because aware of The 11th Hour at this year’s Oscars when Leo appeared on stage with Al Gore. If you don’t know much about the project, here’s a little synopsis from the folks at Movieweb:
The 11th Hour is the last moment when change is possible. The film, directed by Leila Conners Petersen and Nadia Conners, explores how we’ve arrived at this particular moment in time. How we live, how we impact the earth’s ecosystems, and what we can do to change our course.
The film features ongoing dialogues of experts from all over the world, including former Soviet Prime Minister Mikhail Gorbachev, renowned scientist Stephen Hawking, former head of the CIA R. James Woolsey and sustainable design experts William McDonough and Bruce Mau in addition to over 50 leading scientists, thinkers and leaders who discuss the most important issues that face our planet and people.
Some people get their panties in a twist when celebrities speak out about certain issues. Personally I don’t mind. As long as they don’t do it when the cameras are on them for a different purpose, then I say “more power to you”. It’s their world too, and I just wish more of us used our gifts and talent to try to make a bit of a difference.
Getting back to The 11th Hour… I don’t know enough about the project myself… but it seems to me, just on the surface mind you… that this movie was already done last year… it was called “An Inconvenient Truth” wasn’t it? A documentary about the growing environmental crisis and how we’re running out of time to do something about it. Sounds a lot like “Truth” to me. I’ll reserve judgement till I see it for myself.
(as a side note, I actually do dig the poster)
