It looks like the legendary video game Diablo is currently in development to be made into a film. It is listed on the Legendary Pictures website and the following news and game synopsis was obtained from comingsoon.net:
The dark fantasy action-adventure game was released by Blizzard Entertainment in December of 1996. Set in the fictional Kingdom of Khanduras, Diablo has the player take control of a lone hero as he or she battles to rid the town of Tristram of the titular Lord of Terror and his demon minions.
Most video game movies have been horrible, we dish about this quite often around these parts. I do have hope however for the Diablo movie, because Blizzard has a commitment to excellence. Now I am not sure what amount of input Blizzard will have on the movie, but I know their games are some of the best on the planet. When Blizzard announces a project, there is no wonder on my end if it will be good, they always deliver quality.
The game Diablo is a great single player dungeon crawl, and I hope they stuff a lot of dungeon in this movie. We have a lack of films with dungeon crawling and I think this is a sad state of affairs. Kicking in doors, lurking though caves, uncovering secrets in a forgotten underground city, all of this is exciting and I hope this movie does for dungeon crawling what Bullitt did for the car chase.
After 300, I have interest in Legendary pictures and hope they continue to make more quality macho sword-slingers. If Diablo and the World Of Warcraft films take off, this could be a very lucrative partnership for both Blizzard and Legenday. I hope Blizzard simply does what they do best and ensure that we get another quality product.
