Clash OF The Titans Remake

medusa6.jpgA remake of Clash Of the Titans is in the works. We get the scoop and synopsis from moviehole:

George Lucas’s go-to guy Lawrence Kasdan – he penned “Empire Strikes Back”, “Return of the Jedi” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” – has been tapped to rework an old Harry Hamlin movie (Clash Of The Titans).

The story revolves around Zeus’ son, Perseus, and his journey to save Princess Andromeda during which he must complete various tasks set out by Zeus, including capturing Pegasus and slaying Medusa. The original marked the final film on which Ray Harryhausen did special effects.

I saw this film as a youngster, and although a bit foggy I remember enjoying it. The special effects of today are able to take this to another level; and although skeptical of remakes – this one I would like to see. I am also pumped about Kasdan’s involvement – his work with Lucas has resulted in legendary films and I hope he will bring that magic to this sword and sorcery epic!

The monsters and creatures of myth are always a delight for me to see on the silver screen. Pegasus, Unicorns, Mermaids and Medusa these are players from childhood fables and when I see them on the silver I am left with a feeling of childlike wonder. This is why I love the movies, the world of our imagination is put on display for all to see.

  1. Interseting i was acually thinking Steven Jackson would remake this….IMHO the perfect lead for Perseus would be Eric Bana ( Hector in Troy ) as for Andromeda i have no idea who i who i would want to see…The Gods would be interesting as well…But i cant wait to see how this turns out especiall wit computer graphics

  2. This is awesome news. I LOVED this film as a kid, exspeshaly with my grand father, as this was one of his favs, and I still love watching it today. This film was epic, extremely imaginative, creepy as hell, oh so much fun to watch.

It would just look so great with todays special effects behind it. I just hope they get a good lead. Can’t wait!

  3. Medusa was mad-creepy. That freaked me out as a kid. Looking back, Clash was the fist movie I saw with an “epic” scope. I think a remake is a good idea.

  4. I like the idea of Kasdan being involved.

I’m holding out on making any judgements for a while though.
In spirit, I am against the idea of remaking what I consider to be a wonderful movie, but I am not foolish enough to think that this classical tale cant be retold. Especially with today’s technology at their disposal. This could be one of the good remakes.
    Time will tell…

  5. This is actually one movie that would be great as a remake. I used to watch this movie all the time as a kid and actually had some of the action figures too. The key on this one is that they at minimum push for a hard PG-13 rating (R would be better). Very good news indeed!!!

  6. I hope they keep the Perseus character as how he was. Timidly quiet, yet ready for bloodshed when the need came. And I would love to see the ancients appeased by actually having Pegasus flying out of Medusas head after being severed….. so pretty….

  7. Perseus could be the bad ass we all wanted him to be – kind of like the king in 300

Perhaps a remake is what is needed

The first time this hit the drive in movie theater screen, my family and I were there. You see besides Star Wars this was one of the most memorable and awesome movies ever made for a kid at 7 years old. I ask the producers to make this as awesome as it was when I was 7.

  8. Nice, this movie would make an awesome re-make.

Doug, you should play the God of War games on the PS2, I’m playing GoW2 right now and it’s pretty awesome. Who would have thought that cutting the wings off a Griffin would be so satisfying haha. Oh yea, they even got Harry Hamlin to voice Perseus. Michael Clarke Duncan is Atlas too.

  9. The classic will always be there, it doesn’t disappear when a new movie is made. Its more important to me however that they are remaking this classic more out of homage vs an easy $$$$$$.

  10. this is great news! lately i’ve been wondering when someone would do a remake of this classic film. i also remember watching this movie as a kid and buying all the toys, infact i still have some of them from back then. the sfx are gonna rock in this movie. i found the dvd in a discount bin and picked it up. maybe hamlin can play a cameo as zeus. thanks for the heads-up.

  11. This is great news! I saw this when I was a kid and it affected me so much that I wrote a play based on it. Other kids and I put on a show for our parents (and anyone else in the neighborhood who was brave enough to watch our little play).

I’d like nothing better to see a remake on this classic film.

  12. LOVED that movie. I know today’s special effects would take it to a new level visually, but Harryhausen’s FX had a certain charm to them that really was the heart and soul of that flick.

Curious to see what happens with this one…
