A reader sent me a link to MSN’s list of the top 10 Superhero films. Now rememer folks, all lists are subjective… but they make for great discussion starters on a Tuesday morning!

So, without any further delay, here is the MSN list of the top 10 Superhero films:

10) "The Rocketeer" (1991)

9) "Spy Kids" (2001)

8) "Hellboy" (2004)

7) "Inframan" (1976)

6) "Darkman" (1990) I’m glad they put this one on. I actually LOVED this flick

It’s not a horrible list, but some of them on there make me scratch my head. Spy Kids?!?! Where the hell is Batman Begins?!?! Oh well.

  8. By superhero movie i’m pretty sure it means “costumed crimefighter”, whether based on a comic or not. And there are comics that don’t count as superhero comics. It just gets so confusing!

    (On a side note… i know all lists are subjective and all, but someone actually put ‘Batman (Clooney)’ on their top 10 list. Meaning ‘Batman & Robin’ i presume… Holy Hell. Were they serious? Even if you ARE George Clooney, you MUST acknowledge the fact that that movie sucked ass. I think he even said it in interviews after the films release…)

  12. As much as I’m looking foward to it, Vikas, the Spoder-Man 3 teaser did zip for me, with the exception of the shot of the symbint crawling up Spidey’s hand, the Sandman knocking out pedestrians, and the Spidey reflection.

    Ghost Rider kicked my ass.

I should add that The Darkness is now in its 10th year of publication, and has now had several cross overs with various other characters including Batman (whos ass The Darkness wooped), Witchblade, Hulk, Wolverine, Predator, Aliens and Superman (in which he actually defeated the S-man). The movie, which I mentioned in my previous post, is planned to come out late next year via Dimension Films, and Dimension paid an undisclosed high six figures for the rights to the characters. The plan is to make the movie much like the original Crow movie, also by Dimension. I highly recommend checking out THE DARKNESS.

  24. Thats a pretty terrible list. Personally my top ten are:

    1. Sin City – surprised no one’s mentioned this one! If Marv isn’t a hero, I don’t know who is ;)

    2. The Crow – one of the best film noir movies ever, also a cult classic, and a beautiful masterpiece

    3. Batman Begins

    4. X-Men 2

    5. Spider-Man 2

    6. Batman

    7. Spider-Man

    8. Blade

    9. Blade 2

    10. X-Men

    11. Hellboy

    12. Punisher (Tom Jane)

    Well, there’s my top 13….I was contemplating puting the original Punisher movie on there (with Dolph Lundrin ;] ). I’m just waiting for November 2007 and the movie based off the comic book The Darkness (Image/Top Cow Comics), by Marc Silvestri, which should be friggin amazing.     I wouldn’t say The Matrix was a superhero movie but the sequels are. They’re not on my list because they suck.

  34. i just rewatched X-Men (1.5) the other day after seeing X3 twice in the theatres recently – and loving it. i know X1 has a lot of exposition but it’s plodding and has a huge lack of action or adventure for that matter. X2 is a much better film in the series

  35. The fact that Batman Begins isn’t even on this list makes it totally gay and not worth acknowledging, bottom line Batman Begins is THE best Super Hero film of all time.

  36. I like that idea varun. I like the idea of someone with no obvious accent. I mean… He’s from space and would not be saying “ya’ll” in a southern drawl or “bada-bing” in an italian new york accent.

  38. I don’t think V for Vendetta is a superhero film. Or even Darkman. Rocketeer is a fun movie but I don’t think it belongs to this list either. WTF with the Spy Kids?

    Inframan is a Japanese superhero film, if I recall correctly.

    X2 is the best superhero film so far in my opinion…

    Have anyone seen The Specials ? It is a very low budget film which was released about the same time as the Mystery Men. It stars Thomas Hayden Church, Judy Greer etc.

  53. The author made a sloppy list.

    I disagree with the author’s assessment of “Spy Kids”. I really like watching this with my kids, but it’s DNA is all Bond, James Bond.

    His analysis of “Batman Returns” isn’t very good. I like the movie, but the Penguin comes off as annoying, not complex. Also, Burton kept a little too much of the campy 60s version in his films. Michelle Pfeiffer makes this movie worthy of repeat viewing! Why they even bothered with Halle Berry is beyond me. I think “Batman Begins” is a better film overall, with the exception of the Katie Holmes, and belongs on any list of superhero films.

    His number one pick is between the first two X-Men films, but why choose? The author wants to spread the wealth, but honestly, if both installments belong on the list then jettison number 10.

    My current favorites are all the X-Men films, Batman Begins, The Incredibles, Mystery Men and Sky High. I know the last choice isn’t cool, but darnit I really liked it and it has Bruce Campbell and Kurt Russell.

  57. I agree with you John…Batman Returns? It was nice to see The Rocketeer up there (that film is underated). But where is Condorman?
