Rob Zombie To Do Next Halloween Film

Halloween-Michael-ZombieOk, in today’s lesson boys and girls, we’re going to learn how to take something that was once good… then went bad… and how to make this bad thing even worse! Yes folks, Rob Zombie, the guy who gave us the total waste of film, time, money and brain cells movies “Devil’s Rejects”, and “House Of 1,000 Corpses” has been signed up for some inexplicable reason to write and direct a new “Halloween” flick. Oh good.

What? That news isn’t yet bad enough for you? Ok, how about we add on top of that the fact that it’s going to be a remake! Hooray for stupidity! The good folks at Yahoo give us this:

An October 2007 release is being planned. Disney’s Miramax Films will co-finance the development with former Miramax chiefs Bob and Harvey Weinstein’s Dimension Films.

The movie will not be a sequel or a straight-ahead remake of the 1978 original — which helped director John Carpenter cement his name in the horror business — but a reimagining that will infuse new blood into the Myers story.

Ummm… yeah… that IS called a re-make.

Well, at least they’re giving Zombie a totally “throw away-able” movie like a new Halloween. It’s a shame what they did with that franchise, it used to be great. Hmmmm… not totally dead yet? Let’s add Zombie! Ugg. Thanks to Darren for the heads up.

  1. Zombie’s Halloween WILL be the best one yet…. Well, maybe its a bit too early to crow, but his House of 1000 Corpses was the best horror movie I’ve ever seen. It was the perfect mix of the corny and truly disturbing that embodies what the horror film genre has come to be. A MASTERPIECE. Party on!

  2. Now I have no problem with zombie making another SEQUAL to halloween. But to remake a good movie especially one like the original halloween totaly sucks ass. I have seen the original halloween many times and I think it’s one of the few horror movies I thought was actually really good. Now another sequal to halloween will be fine because it would be exactly the same as the rest of the sequals. Maybe good. Maybe bad. But mostly a piece of crap. And I think that the casting decistions were the worst. Now Malcolm Mcdowll is a good actor. But is no Donald Pleasence. Daniel Harris being in this is kind of a cool idea. But the cast itself looks nothing like the original cast in halloween.

Now I always thought that halloween needed a little more blood than it had. But Rob Zombie is an adict for sheer gore. He’s so violent in some of his movies.

I HATE what zombie is doing to the series. If you watch the H25 documentery rob said this in one point of the film “Nobody should have told me how I should have remade Jaws. I would have ruined the freakin move.” Well he’s doing the same damn thing to this one.

  3. I agree with nord. Rejects was great and I love this series even though H3 sucked and I feel Busta had no right to be in it, I actually can’t wait to see how Rob “remakes” this film. I would rather see Rob make a whole nother Halloween than a “remake” but if he makes a “remake” I would like it to take start in 1978 and answer a few questions I’m sure we all have on how and why he became a killer and why the hell he won’t die.

  4. Well say what you well but who is rich and who is at home being a critic , hehehe , and he has Cheri Moon Zombie as his wife while most of you have what? Your left hand. Hey at least he is making films , none of you can say the same yet you criticize so easily …. pathetic , go make some movies first then critique , cause otherwise your word is pathetic and pointless

  5. I believe it is a good idea to make another halloween movie, but the movie should leave off into a 9th not a remake, Jason, freddy, pinhead did it, now micheal myers will not be in the same league, just because Rob Zombie decided he should remake it!!! Halloween is not Superman, Batman, Leave it be as is, I like Rob Zombie, but this is a bad idea, Halloween should remind us all what happend in his past, but not to start over, I hate this Idea…….If it is made, IT BETTER BE DAMN GOOD!!!!Please stoping remaking the best horror films……….LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!I think it would be a good Idea to make another movie but like Hellraiser vs. Halloween they could call the movie……HellOween:Micheal Vs. Pinhead…….Something like that, but if Rob is going to make all over, it better be worth my money…….That is all i have to say for now…..

  6. Whoa!

Didnt anyone else see that? Camp made a post that didn’t end with the word “Cheers”

Thats crazy!!! when ever he does that I imagine this Cheshire Cat grin on his face and I want to smush blue berry pie in it,lol

OK who all lives in Toronto with me? I say we go find John, tie him to a Lazy Boy and make him watch Devils Rejects!! he can be background noise for the next podcast, weeping and screaming.

  7. Ok Carter…

Put your “money” where your mouth is. You say Superman is going to bomb and “underperform hugely”. Ok… then give me a number. You tell me how much Superman is going to make opening weekend.

Don’t wuss out now… you said “bomb”… so now give me a number. How much will it make opening weekend?

    Cheers.

  8. superman doesn’t look bad because of the gay overtones…it just looks bad full stop. in fact the only thing that does look good is that shot of what appears to be luthor sodomising superman.
singer is a great film maker. I wouldn’t say he is a genius..yet.the one thing i don;t like about his films is the lack of warmth. his films are very sterile and cold. he is a great story teller so that makes up for that. But i have huge fears for superman. I read a thing posted on another thread here somewhere and I have read it before where singer talks about the main focus of the film being about lois and supermans relationship….. There is nothing in any of the trailers so far that set it apart from any other big action type film. the trailer should have made audiences cheer….twice I have seen it at the movies and there is complete silence…not even an excited murmur…that is because the film looks fucking awful….there is zero anticipation out there…ask around..most people don’t even know it is coming out…..I really believe it is going to underperform hugely…..in fact I would go as far as to say it will be a bomb. The trailers have completely failed. they should have made you go “holy shit” not go “meh”

  9. Brad, when a filmmaker takes a source material like a comic book or novel, that’s not a ‘remake’. That’s adaptation. When I filmmaker takes a movie and films it again, that’s a remake.

    HUGE difference.

  10. Hey Surprising,

What on earth are you smoking? Rob Zombie is “Creative and unique?” That’s total bull. I found nothing “creative” about his pathetic film or even worse “style”.

For the record, I’ve got 6 Zombie tunes on my iPod at the moment.

FAILED Soap Opera actor????!!!?!?!?!?! What are you talking about?!?! DO you even know what you’re taling about? In ONE of his acting jobs… 5 years ago… a character he played on daytime TV got writen out. Would you like me to list for you the big named stars who had the same thing happen to them???

Haha… and I basically laugh at your Bryan Singer comments. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. This guys is a genius. Critical acclaim proves it. Fan praise proves it. Box office success proves it. So critics love him… the vast majoirty of fans love him… and the box-office loves him. Yup… you’re right… sure sounds like a loser to me.

  11. John,

For a guy that continues to vehemently defend a FAILED SOAP OPERA ACTOR being cast as the lead role in the AMERICAN SUPER HERO epic known as SUPERMAN, and refuse to acknowledge that the film will contain GAY OVERTONES and lack of respect for the hero and why he was created, it’s interesting that you’d show prejudice towards Rob Zombie because he put out a movie that didn’t exactly have the best acting nor the best story. So what? I thought you knew that movies were about art and creativity and Rob Zombie brings a unique and creative angle on horror.

But then again, you’re also the same guy who didn’t think Fantastic Four was that bad, when it was an overly extended and under-whelming TELEVISION SHOW brought to the big screen, and you ignore how “THE NEXT CHAPTER” means nothing to the fantastic four nor the marvel universe.

    How convenient!!

Come clean, John. You hate Rob Zombie and WHITE ZOMBIE his band. But don’t hate a film with a director you don’t like. After all, GayBoy Returns is being directed by an anti-comic book icon known as Bryan Singer. But who’s keeping tabs??

  12. You know, I think you’re being completely unfair when it comes to Rob Zombie. “House Of 1,000 Corpses” was his first effort and it was a little ratty around the edges, but it already showed promise. The progress he made as a director between those two films is amazing. “Devil’s Rejects” is a sequel, but it’s also a huge step forward in terms of artistic realization. It’s also a really good film, IMO. Just like the Universal horror films of the 30’s, you have empathy for the “monsters” and it makes the story much more engaging. I actually think doing Halloween is beneath Rob Zombie. I’d much rather see him doing more of his own work.

  13. it is kind of funny, i actually thought most people didn’t like zombie as a film maker…..maybe this is just zombie film fan headquarters.

  14. John,
it’s OK not to like the Zombie. Personally I would have to go with the majority of your readers on this one, and say R.Z. has the potential to revitalize the horror genre.

As for remaking Halloween, I’m partial. The movie will not be a remake, but rather a retcon. It’s done all the time in comics and in sequles. Basically a retelling of a story which can rewrite the current history of a character.

Think about the many comic films which are being created. All of these stories are retcons of the original comics. Concepts are the same, but the history changes. Sometimes for the better, and some are not even noticed.

I say bring it on. Just this time when L.L. Cool J, is face to face with M.M, this time – kill the f`er.

  15. whoah, i don’t think wishing death someone will make this movie any better. And this movie, even under Zombie, will more than likely suck.

  16. it has been a long long time since carpenter has made anything that gives him the right to be thought as a good director. Good god he has lost his touch….vampires??? ghosts of mars…escape from la…..the guy is one of my favorite of all time but dear god he has had a bad bad run of making fucking terrible movies…..

  17. I personally think that remaking halloween is pointless. I mean can that style of slasher movie ever be really scary again after being watered down by “scream” and the “I know what you did last summer” types of rubbish?
Michael Myers is one of horrors greatest characters………his grave has been danced upon enough already. Having said that at least they are going with a guy we know isn’t afraid to push things. he is far from a safe choice. The guy earlier who said that horror needs guys like zombie got it 100%. We need more guys like him who are not afraid to actually try and horrify with their horror films. Horror has been so weak for years and finally we have a new breed at the moment not afraid to make fucking horror movies horrible. Horror films should make you feel terrible. You shouldn’t walk out of a horror feeling good. you should walk out looking over your shoulder…you should feel troubled. you should wish that you hadn’t have seen what you just saw. Zombie does what he does extremely well. I am with the guy who reckons john hasn’t even seen the devils rejects. Are you not a big horror fan john? you obviously are not a fan of old school exploitation movies. For people who grew up loving films like I spit on your grave, cannibal holocaust, texas chainsaw, the last house of the left then zombie is a fucking dream come true. whther he is right for halloween remains to be seen. Zombie makes films that make you want to have a shower. and he is fucking good at it……fuck comparing him to uwe boll. you are so fucking over the top some times john it cracks me up. There is no way you seriously believe that but you get all sweeped up in the moment. mind you I did hear you say the other day that “die hard with a vengence” is your favourite die hard film so who the fuck knows what goes on in that head of yours cos that is fucking crazy talk. anyway…..

  18. I think Zombie doing Halloween would be trippy. I wouldn’t seeing this hellspawn baby in theaters (just like X3, I don’t care if it sucks or not, I’ll still see it).

I have to agree with Campea on one thing: A “reimagine” (a.k.a. REMAKE) is a bit far for this. I’m very sure Campea remembers Tim Burton’s ‘Planet of the Apes’. If not, well it’ll be a good example for him to mention on the Audio Blog. I’d perfer this to be dubbed as “sequel”. Maybe.

As for saying that Rob Zombie is lower than Uwe Boll: WTF?!? I draw the line right there! Sure Zombie isn’t perfect, but by no means is he that bad as crap. Hell, there are also critics out there that praise his films. Boll= ZERO!

The way I see it, crappy or not, I think it could sell. This may be a horror fans’ dream come true. Remember, Hostel beat BOTH NARNIA AND KONG!

But don’t forget, Superman has his haters before the release, along with X3, and Spider-Man. Who knows…

It may actually be surprisingly good! We’ll see, until then, I’d like to hear Campea’s review of it when it hits theaters.

    -Later!

  19. Below Uwe Boll?

Have you lost your BLEEPING mind? ok ok I get it, your having us on now, having a laugh are we?

If you understood how much I fucking HATE Uwe Boll you’d understand why I now want to fight you!

PUT’EM UP CAMP!!!! THEMS IS FIGHTING WORDS!!!!

    Below Boll?

Dude please go watch Devils Rejects, cause now I KNOW you haven’t seen it.

    nord

  20. Hey Meli,

It was meant as an insult… totally. I dig Rob’s music (I’ve currently got 6 of his tunes on my iPod). But as a filmmaker… my opinon is the guy is just below Uwe Boll.

Hack is the correct word. :)

    Cheers!

    ~John

  21. I’m totally bias when it comes to Rob Zombie because to me the man can do no wrong – I love his music and his work – I’m a huge fan.

I don’t like the fact that they want to remake Halloween, but I’m willing to watch it because is appears that Zombie is onboard.

I can understand why people don’t like him or his movies. I like to think of his creativity as an aquired taste. Those who can’t have fun with sadistic, morbid movies won’t ever like him and I’m okay with that.

However – calling him “hack” is really a complete insult. Sorry, John.

  22. I hate the idea of anybody remaking John Carpenter but at least they’ve gone with an interesting director and not some music video guy. Love him or hate him, Zombie definitely has a unique style and some wacky ideas.

Why doesn’t somebody just give the bloody money to John Carpenter and let him make Escape From Earth?

  23. I’m a bit 50/50 on this. I agree with Zombie that most horror films today are treated like nothing but cheap jokes and are over-commercialized (I guess that’s what he meant by the Michael Myers squeeze me doll) . However, even though Zombie will “keep the mask” (and possibly the jumpsuit as well?) I am not thrilled with this being a “re-imagined” movie, which is just a polite way of saying remake.

    Here’s the thing, kiddies.
The original Halloween isn’t about seeing body parts, blood and guts.

As for the late Pleasance, I thought H20 did just fine without…
oh, that’s right. Jamie Lee Curtis was in that and helmer Steve Miner geared it more as a thriller with some hints of horror.

  24. You have to admit Zombie “the so-called hack” is better than Steve “Lake Placid” Miner, who did H20. This is only Zombie’s 3rd film, and ‘Rejects’ was a considerable improvement over ‘Corpses’. Just don’t see it if you are not interested..but if you ask me, the real test will be when we start to the trailers a year from now.

  25. I don’t think doing a remake is a good idea. I think continuing the franchise would be a better. Yes they have messed up the Halloween seris since H2O, but maybe try making Halloween 9 and make it good, or hell let Zombie do Halloween 9 if he makes it good keep going with Halloween 10, but if he fucks up then restart the franchise. Zombie…is meh….the guy is a singer, and for me I don’t like singers heading into the movie business. Stick to music because movies are completing different. I’ve seen both of Zombies movies and I hated them. There garbage as far as I’m concerned.

  26. I am a big fan of David Hartman’s work. He has some pilots and episodes over on Channel 101.com. He did the artwork for the comic to Devils Rejects and would love more than anything to see another mini book of his art and take on Halloween. Yeah, i hate Halloween filsm, as I already said, but Zombie could do weel with it and I would LOVE to see Hartman’s artwork.

  27. WOW!!!!

there are people on here who finally agree with me – 1000 Corpses is totally awesome… Devil’s Rejects… also awesome

i don’t think they should do a remake of Halloween, the original is still a great film today

rob zombie rules, king of the b-movie… shame about his new album

  28. i like devils rejects it was good but i wanna see what zombie can do with hollween but i do wish it was a new one not a remake but whatcha going to do.

  29. 1) There is NO POINT in doing a Halloween movie without Donald Pleasance. He made the franchise what it was, even more so than Jamie Lee Curtis. Most of the sequels suck and are only just watchable because of him.

    2) Halloween has been played to death. 6 or 7 sequels that didn’t wander that far from the original formula anyway, so why bother?

    3) Gotta disagree with you here, John. 1000 Corpses was bad but Devil’s Rejects, despite its complete lack of morality and being loud and obnoxious, is a lot of fun. Also, if you think Len Wiseman is fine for Die Hard because he can do action, then why isn’t Zombie fine for Halloween? He can clearly do the blood and guts. His films are also lit and shot really well and have a design of their own (unlike Underworld). It’s Halloween, loud and retarded fun with random murder. Zombie fits.

That said, I still don’t give a shit about this movie. The last Halloween had Busta Rhymnes kung fu kicking Myers through a window. Such bullshit.

  30. I hate the Halloween movies, they are boring and just stupid in my opinion. I liked the first one a little but still felt it dragged on and was just really boring. I loved Zombie’s House and Rejects, and so maybe I will love a Halloween movie from him. At any rate, this news isn’t at all exciting, as I already said, I HATE the Halloween films.

I am excited as hell about the Nightmare prequel, I will always LOVE the Nightmare movies. My friends ask me how I can like Nightmare films and not Halloween, I simply do not know other than the fact Freddy kicks-ass!!! Michael Myers (not austin powers myers) can eat shit in this next film.

  31. Here is some logic that you can’t argue with: Rob Zombie movies effen rule. Argue if you must but it says in the Bible in Galatians 1a: “Rob Zombie shall deliver onto the land some bitchen blood fiestas. But they shall not be for everyone, just for those who love the lost art of good b-flix.”

  32. John you must not have liked the exploitation-horror of the 70s then. Zombie is a fresh air in horror. Just lock at all the crappy stalker movies that’s come out since the original halloween nothing new as been added, with scream being the exception.

I’m not even sure you have watched Rejects, John.

  33. I have to agree with Nord. While “corpses” was a terrible movie in itself, it wasn’t nearly as bad as some of the stuff “normal” directors produce. With “Devil’s Rejects” I think Rob REALLY learned a great deal and made a much better film. While I don’t enjoy the sadist appeal to his films, Devil’s Rejects was pretty solid. I’m at least interested to see what he can do with the Halloween franchise.

  34. Hey Nord,

Disagreements and discussion are what this site is all about… so feel free to disagree all you want dude!

However, you’re right… we are in total disagreement. Zombie sucks ass… and is a total hack. His movies blow.

    :)

    Cheers!

    ~John

  35. WOW

John, I like to slice you up sometimes and “nit-pick” some of your opinions, but I don’t think I have ever disagreed with you so strongly. While I thought House of 1000 Corpses was campy fun, I thought Devils Rejects was an awsome film, one of the best pure horror movies I have ever seen.

The growth that Rob Zombie showed from his first film to the second one was amazing and I have been eagerly awaiting his next project.

Am I happy its a remake of Halloween?….meh. Do I think he’s going to do a good job with it? Oh Yes.

    Horror needs Rob Zombie. period.
