Lucas Writing Connery Into Next Indian Jones

For the record, I still say this movie is never going to actually get made. Last night on “Access Hollywood”, they interviewed George Lucas and the conversation got on to Indiana Jones 4. Here’s what NBC sent me:

Despite reports that Connery is retired, Lucas told Menounos last night, “I would love him to be in the next ‘Indiana Jones’…maybe I can push him into it.” When asked if he knew whether or not Connery wanted to appear in the film, Lucas said, “I think he does.”

Lucas jokingly added, “We are writing him in whether he wants to do it or not.”

Wow… if that doesn’t tell you how little has been done on the script so far (that was apparently finished months and months ago), then I don’t know what does. A key character like Dr. Jones Sr. and they don’t even know yet if he’ll be in the movie. This project is going nowhere fast.

I said it before and I’ll say it again… there will never be an Indiana Jones 4. I hope to heavens that I’m wrong… but I’m not

  1. I completely agree. I don’t think this movie is ever going to get made.

On a bit of a side note…I know Lucas has a lot of weight in Hollywood but it irks me just a tad that he’s assuming he can convince Connery to return. Just to spite him, I hope Connery sticks to his guns. Lucas has been pushing all of my wrong buttons lately. Sorry.

  2. Poodle. Yes, all you have to do is register, and then after doing that, you can click the update button at the bottom of the page. Thats why there is usally a lot of bogus imformation, mostly, in the trivia sections. Although, for those who don’t pay for the site, it takes a long while to update.

  3. Josh, Really? I didn’t know anyone could just fill in the blank at the IMDb. Nevertheless, I still believe it’s going to happen…maybe if I’m lucky, it’ll be in my life time.

  4. I hope you are right. This film would be a huge mistake. And I think I speak for everyone when I say George Lucas has sullied enough of the “classics,” and by classics I mean Star Wars, to never be trusted again.

  5. Just because IMDb says somethings is in preproduction, doesn’t mean it’s true. Just any joe can get on the site, make an account and submit updates about movies…a lot of times it tends to be B.S.

  6. Oh John, you’re such a pessimist. It’s gonna happen (one of these days). IMBd said the movie is in preproduction. That’s a one step above announcement. Although I am worn from endless delay, I have the feeling the forth one is going to be the better of the three. Ah, I hope.

  7. First off, Harrison Ford is probably around the same Connery was, back when he played his father.

Second off, let’s face it. Ford isn’t the actor he one was. Nowadays, he just comes off as gritty, which is so unlike the Indiana Jones character.

  8. I’m totally with you on this one John. It won’t happen and i don’t want it to happen. There is a reason that the cast rode off into the sunset at the end of ‘Last Crusade’…….it was the end. I just get the feeling that they are trying to make Indy 4 out of obligation to the fans, not because they really want to make it. If a film is going to be made out of obligation rather than love, then don’t bother.

  9. I remember reading an interview on a Bond site saying that Connery would absolutely return for Indy 4 if offered, so that’d be cool – I’ll try to find the article…

I hope he is in it; League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is such a bad way to end a career.
