Prince Of Persia Movie

Prince Of Persia MovieAs most of you know, I have absolutely ZERO faith in any video game to movie adaptations. Having said that, the one game franchise that I always thought MIGHT have a chance at being half decent is Prince Of Persia. Not because it’s a better GAME than any other the others… but because it has a much richer story line, history and plot depth than any other game (which isn’t all that important when it comes to games… but it IS important when thinking about making it into a movie).

The good folks over at Cinemablend give us this little tid bit:

Now, well known screenwriter John August, who is apparently serving as an executive producer on the Prince of Persia project, has answered a few questions about the upcoming film on his blog. If you’re a Prince of Persia fan, this is probably a pretty big deal.

August confirms first off, that he doesn’t know when the movie is coming out, they don’t have a director, and no they haven’t cast anyone. Of course they don’t have a script yet, so that makes sense. But, he does confirm they are thinking about casting and that, “it would be great to find a (relatively) unknown Persian actor to play the prince.”

The article goes on to say that the movie will probably be based on “The Sands Of Time” storyline… which isn’t a bad idea.

I still think video game movies are a bad idea (ie. Halo), but if any of them has a shot at being ok… it could be Prince of Persia (once again… NOT because it a better game by any stretch… but because it has richer story possibilities). We’ll just have to wait and see I guess.

  1. …personally I think theres a few actors who could handle the role but they shouldn’t be overly famous, Orlando Bloom has the looks and a very fit body he’s athletic etc. but already to famous for the role. people seem to be hung-up on it having to be an Iranian actor, but sadly if you look at hollywood today they always seem to use a ‘pretty boy’ white male. Even the prince if you look closely on the games doesn’t look very Iranian , but more like a rugged white tanned male. If a man like ‘Tom Welling’ (Smallville actor) soaked up some sun, grew a little more scruff he would have the look for sure. Another actor that some people have been playing with the idea of is John Abraham (some Indian actor/model) , who could also pull off the look, although I’m not so sure if he speaks English. As for Farrah they should really bring in a new pretty face.

    Cheers! from South Africa

  2. VIDEO GAME MOVIES.

Just to know there is more video games coming to the big screen,
like God Of War,Halo,Fear Effect,Devil May Cry and maybe Virtua Fighter, but Prince Of Persia would be good I like Silent Hill as well
but DOA:Dead or Alive was not a very good movie but it was enjoyable
but now Christophe Gans is making a Onimusha movie,he’ll write the script with Onimusha game script writers and the film’s storyline will be based on the first Onimusha game.Tekken on the other hand is going to be directed by Dwight H Little but this one is going to be a problem and Crystal Sky should change the director and the screenwriters and do the plot to follow the story to Tekken 1 and 2.
Street Fighter will be coming back for a live action film for a 2008 release focusing on Chun Li and Darkstalkers would make a big screen treatment.
    Thank You.

  3. I just have to say…

-Director and screen writer Zack Snyder
-David Kam Zandi real Persian Royal Ancestry of Zand Dynasty
    -Young!!! 29 years old
    -Verrry good looking!!!
-Persian born and has major skills in sword fighting and is champion equestrian
    -Film Production Executive & Actor

WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR!!!!!

  4. In my opinion, Prince of Persia should be done just like how 300 was done by director and screen writer Zack Snyder. Tastefully in detail even though it was an action pact movie with a story tellers voice here and there. It was incredible wasn’t it?!!! In the game itself (Sands of Time) starts with a story tellers voice telling the audiences of the tale and through out the game bit by bit. Not only that. You could even see clearly in detailed how the young prince fights skilfully, decapitating his enemy’s limbs and see it flying off into the air and onto the ground. It is also important that the actor should have the right type of image/looks and the right age range. It should be a young actor or at least young looking actor.

  5. This movie, if written correctly and directed well, can turn out to be a huge success! Unfortunaely… the actor who is chosento play the Prince will influence the whole movie, so they will have to choose very carefully… otherwise it could turn out to be a really sad movie! I am a writer myself and I can tell evryone out there, writing is not the easiest job out there! So you can expect to wait a while before seeig the movie!

  6. Sands of time will indeed be a great movie if well written and directed. I think its one of the best stories out there, we all agree on that. Hritik Roshan would be a good candidate for playing the Prince, as long as he doesn’t try his pathetic dance moves.

  7. Interesting choices people but I think Oded Fehr is too butch looking and the other just dont look right but I cant think of one man who looks just like him and has the right physique etc- MARK DACASCOS! picture him with a bit of a beard and long hair and a big tattoo on his back! plus he’s a martial artist so he’d kick some serious evil ass!

  8. If I hear anymore Orlando Bloom/Collin Farrel bs, then I’m gonna flip! The movie is based on the persian culture, P-E-R-S-I-A-N, so why the heck would they cast a white actor. That’s just too racist for me to handle. Persia is Iran right now, so either take an actor from Iran, or the middleast in general(Not from India, because that’s where Farah is from, and it wouldn’t make sense since he would be invading his own country) or had heritage there.

If I see a white guy act as the prince, I’ll flip. You might as well make the president of USA middle eastern! Same with Jesus. He is always portrayed as a white guy. So give the prince a role that fits to him, and not some overrated white pretty boy actor.

  9. Hey if u guys wnt a good prince of persia check out this guy on Squizzle.com go to search and type in Urban gym this kid fits the role(watch the whole movie) peace out

  10. I think that i would be a good person for the part of the prince. I have played all the games and beat them all. I am not a know person, but i think that is why i would be good for the star roll. I love the game, every since it came out i have wanted to be play the role of the prince in the movie. I think that i have all the abilities for the role. I have been in sports my whole life and i am in shape. I have been in gymnastics before so i have all the abillities that the prince can do in the game. And i am not afraid to do any of my own stunts. I think that it would be a chance for me to show people what i am made of. I have wanted to act ever since i was alittle kid. So this is why i would be go for the role of the prince. thank for reading this, grant

  11. Stupid mortals..whoever thinks that the Prince of Persia trilogy is just another game or even worse-nothing more than the other games will soon face his destiny..but as for now i just wanted to remind you humans that the P0P games brought evolution in the world of pc games..how ever i’m shure that the movie will do the same thing in the cinema asswell..

  12. I think Naveen Andrews isn’t a good choice for Prince. His size is big for a Prince.

I think Jerry should bring in some new face, should be Persian or Indian.

  13. If I hear one more person suggest Johny Depp or Anjelina Jolie for the parts of the Prince and Fara I will seriously go on a killing spree!

However the Prince of Persia and Halo movies look as though they are being handled more carefully by the creators (aka Bungie and Ubisoft) than most other game to movie creations, so there is still hope for both franchise.

  14. it’s jerry bruckheimer. if he picks something up, it’s probably gonna be good. i have faith in him since he gave us two fun movies that have a theme park ride as their roots.

  15. you know i am also a big fan of the series and i think that if they make the movie out of the game they should’ent change the story line too much and make the movie all about action because the game isn’t so the movie shouldent be and i agree with ZYPHONIC, Naveen Andrews would be a good choice for the prince, for farah, i have no idea.

  16. I’m a POP fanatic so a movie would be a great idea. I think it would work if they stick to the origional story lines but they’re gonna need some real actors, the Prince has a very demanding job!!! PLEASE MAKE A MOVIE FOR ALL THE FANS!!!

  17. Prince Of Persia is the best among the games. The story is the only one among games which have moved me.The ending to the story is just too fantastic for words.Noone who have completed can ever forget this game even for months. But the story is just for 1/2 and hour.So i dont know if it would be a good choice for movie adaptation.

  18. Most of the game don’t have good storylines. Iwatched the movie ‘Doom’ based on the gane ‘Doom 3’. Speaking truely this movie was a pathetic one. I am a great fan of ‘Prince Of Persia’ game series and completed all of them. This game has got a fantastic storyline and this movie could rock if made properly.
    Thank u.

  19. I think that if this project does go forth that it will be a decent flick. The game has been very sucessfull. The stroyline is and was ridiculous. The fact that the Prince evolves throughtout the three games is just incredible, I have never seen a gaming series put so much effort detail and dedication into a video game. I have played all three games. And since the first have been hoping for a feature film. So yes I do think a movie transition could work out more then well.

  20. Another example would be Michael Keaton as Batman. I found out that he HATED the role. He only played the part as a favor to Tim Burton. Instead of being a bitch about it, he at least cared to do a good job. So good, fans enjoyed him! He was considered the best Batman before Bale took over the role.

The moral is, whether they like it or not, DON’T BE A WINER A MAKE THE MOVIE GOOD! Keaton may not like being Batman, but I think he likes the positive reaction he got from its fanbase.

  21. The visuals in this one will be very important AND very expensive. Prince of Persia should be a sort of Indiana Jones meets The Mummy meets Lawrence of Arabia. Nothing less.

A agree that we would like to see some good acting for a change.

  22. YEAH, nick! Thanks for reminding me about the ‘theme park ride’ movies. Many people though ‘Pirates of the Carribbean’ was going to be crap (the whole “pirate movies are bad”). Instead, it became the highest grossing film in theaters. Sure, some people would complain, but it is consider to be a favorite to others (including me).

Of course, it wouldn’t be taken seriously for ‘The Haunted Mansion’. Talk about a flop.

I can understand Campea having no faith in movies (poor guy must’ve seen ‘Alone in the Dark’), then again, I have no faith for Uwe Boll. But I still think that if someone really wants to, they could actually make a good gaming movie. Damn shame we have ‘Staying Alive’ coming next, looks like one of those geeky movies, but not as geeky as (wait for it)… SNAKES ON A PLANE (yes, that movie is actually being made for summer).

Well, at least there is X3 and Superman to look forward to.

  23. I still wonder how on earth the Resident Evil franchise never made it big – it is an absolute deadset seller – the storyline is good, has everything a smash-bang movie requires…

If you think about it, movies that converted to games (though I cant think of any) – were they any good? I think the exception of The Godfather, I can’t really think of any…

  24. excellent points, DarKing.

as for “games into movies” being “rubbish”: who would have thought a *theme park ride* would result in a good movie? let’s hope someday a videogame-based movie will be half as good as pirates of the caribbean.

  25. I think the REAL problem for why games aren’t as good in movies is because it isn’t taken seriously by developers and movie-makers (Uh-oh, I feel a rant coming on). There are IDIOTS who sacrafice their franchise to people like Uwe Boll (and fuck the ones that gives him the rights to do a film). Paul W.S. Anderson; the Resident Evil movies are guilty pleasures, meaning that they’re fun to watch, but overall, they are crap to how they could’ve been better.

I have hopes for Silent Hill cause:

    1) Uwe Boll isn’t directing.

    2) The movie looks like it may remain true to the source.

    &

3)The acting may actually be good.

I understand some worries for Halo, but I can’t see that film a total failure with Peter Jackson producing. They should have a good director if they really want the Halo movie to be as good as they hope (not Lord of the Rings good, but at least Jackson’s King Kong good). BTW, whatever they do, DON’T LET THE MASTER CHIEF TAKE OFF HIS HELMET!!!

I never played Prince of Persia (I,II,&III), but I did like hearing about the plot, and I hope it will be as good as everyone hopes. But the risk is how serious the director, screenwriter, and producer are to make this successful. Games don’t make bad movies because the product isn’t good enough (nor is the plot from the games), it is because nobody is GIVING A DAMN TO MAKE IT GOOD AS IT SHOULD BE!!!!!

If gamers want their games to be good movies, they need to let their voices be heard. If nobody said anything about Superman, we’d have Jon Peters make this movie into a very crappy ‘Michael Bay’ type of movie! Oh, and DON’T get me started on “Batman & Robin”! Even in X3, if nobody is giving a damn to making this good, most of us may have been right in the beginning to say this film will be a piece of CRAP! Thankfully, the trailer shows some promise, but we’ll see when the movie is out.

Unless studios take video games seriously, we might as well loose all hope for them. The comic fans should be happy, as do I; we have Spider-Man, Batman, Superman (,etc.) that are doing well. Lets hope they remain that way. I hope someday, someone will really make a good video game film.

  26. I’m a fan of the game and would enjoy watching a movie of it. The story is fine and could be “epic” if directed properly. I haven’t a clue to what Persian actor they could get, but I hope he fits the character.

And “YES” John, I’m gonna have to agree with Doug about having the actor look like the character from the game… :o). Afterall, if they get someone obese and unattractive for a Prince, it would/could turn an audience off, even if any of them have played the game or not. I blame society for leading us/me to believe over the years that a Prince/Princess is “always” someone stunningly beautiful.

  27. Part of the reason I believe is that they were limited in the amount of material (ie space available) they could put on a memory chip or cd. I actually think there is a lot more storyline in some of the newer games like doktorpee said. Some of my faves will always be Halo 1 &2 (2 which has a lot of cut scenes I might add, over 2 hours I believe), Prince of persia and Half Life 1 and 2. But others include Final fantasy X and SW Knights of the old republick and the sith lords. I thought they had some of the better plots and story lines as far as computer games are concerned.

  28. Games into movies are a rubbish concept because the games do not have a deep story line to it…the whole thing is structured for the game player to go from START -> END. Saying that, some movies as of late have had no structure whatsoever.

Nevertheless, the newer games have a much better storyline, and I second you there JC, Prince of Persia has a much richer storyline.

This should be an interesting movie…just make sure that tosser Uwe Boll stays well clear of it!
