Colin Farrell is Tops for Total Recall Remake

It seems that Colin Farrell, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy were all considered for the remake of Total Recall, but even though no offers have been made, word says it is likely Farrell who will be given the role.

Dark Horizons

Colin Farrell has emerged as the top contender for the lead role in the remake of the 1990 sci-fi action classic “Total Recall” at Sony Pictures reports Heat Vision.

Based on Philip K Dick’s short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale”, the new version will be re-conceived as a contemporary take on the story.

This film holds a special place in my heart as I turned 18 the year this came out, which made me old enough to see the film in theaters. My first legitimate Rated R film. (US equivilent to NC17)

But the movie was downgraded to a still enjoyable Arnold Schwarzenegger flick, and the well thought out sci-fi action story in Philip K Dick could easily make for a serious scifi suspense thriller.

I hope they go with a more serious take on the movie. As much as I enjoy the first one, I would love to see a remake with a different tone.

But still maybe have a triple breasted mutant prostitute in the Mars settlement slums.

  1. What happened to Colin Farrell’s career? Maybe this’ll get it back on track. He was the “it” actor for a few years there, then kinda faded. Now nobody pays any attention his movies any mind.

  2. I loved the original, just great sci fi action movie fun with great special effects for the time. I think a retelling in a contempary setting would be great and it would give us all a reason to go see the remake. Although I wouldn’t be sold on Colin in the role if it was remade as a sci fi action flick I can buy him in a more contempary setting.

  3. Hmmm, kinda undecided about Colin Farrell as the anticipated lead. I have liked him in some projects and really disliked him in others.

So far the whole re-make is just luke warm idea to me. If it were a more serious approach as you suggested, I might be interested.
