Tekken will get Wide Theatrical Release

Remember that Tekken trailer that came and went earlier this year? What was destined for direct to dvd at best has now been picked up by Anchor Bay and will see its time in theaters next year.

/Film shares:

Anchor Bay acquired the U.S., Australia and New Zealand distribution rights to the film from Crystal Sky Pictures. They announce that the film “will be released widely in the United States in 2011″

no, not direct to DVD, but a WIDE release. This will be in theaters.

This looks pretty good, but I worry about the public appreciation of video game adaptations and how this may fare in the theaters.

Well it looks pretty much like every other fighting combat video game movie. Weak on plot, love interest for eyecandy and some decent looking fight scenes.

Lets hope its as good as Anchor Bay’s faith in it suggests.

  1. Wow, wasn’t expecting this to get a theatrical release. As a big fan of the video games, I am planning to see this movie at some point, just because. But it’s not worth forking out $8-10 for me, because I know it’ll be just an okay movie, at best.

I would have been more then happy with an at home weekend viewing threw my good ol NetFlix. Oh well, guess I have to wait longer now.

  2. I agree with everyone else’s posts. This movie is brutal. For the fighting “settings” they pick a supposed “area” and then this dinky little setup that looks from a high school play is setup for the fighters to fight on. Just a bad, bad movie. Then don’t even mention the devil gene in this, so rips the whole story out of Tekken.

  3. Whose that skinny guy that play Jin? This movie totally dreadful, the fighting scene are lame, the acting ho-hum, and why the hell Christy Romero doesn’t have any connection with Eddy Gordo? and her fighting style also doesn’t look like in the game at all Christy and Eddy have the same fighting style (capoiera)cuz theiy come from the same teacher. Not worth your every penny. But i hv to agree though.. this only tad better than KOF the movie.
BTW, this movie have been released in Asia, that’s why i can say how bad it was. Avoid this at any cost.

  4. This movie is so bad that it makes my mind numbing knowing I watched it.
I mean seriously this movie was easily the worst movie I seen all year….I am wrong the other video game movie King of Fighters was just a tad bit worse.

    3/10

    1. I’ve never heard of the King of Fighters movie. Curious I may have to look for that. Anyway, I enjoyed Tekken. I will be owning the Jap Blu-Ray when I can pick it up.
