Seems the on again off again relationshiip with Terry Gilliam and his proposed “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” has hit the wall again and they are on the outs. Until he can find more money that is.
“The financing collapsed about a month and a half ago,”
“I shouldn’t be here. The plan was to be shooting ‘Quixote’ right now…. we are looking for new financing right now”
“Don Quixote gives me something to look forward to, always. Maybe the most frightening thing is to actually make the film.”
So we are back to square one with Gilliam’s Magnum Opus.
This movie just will never happen. Even with Ewan McGregor and Robert Duvall to play the roles oroginally played by Johnny Depp and Jean Rochefort.
But we have a consolation prize! It seems that Gilliam will be converting his 1981 classic Time Bandits to 3D!
Ok wait… I didn’t even believe that and I typed it. But its apparently happening.
As much as I have a special spot in my heart for Time Bandits, and recently bought it on Bluray. Even reviewed it in a Forgotten Friday. But I see no reason to convert that to 3D.
But what are you going to do? What really matters to him isn’t panning out. Why not this?
YES!
In 1981, when I visited London for the first time, I saw it in the cinema and I LOVED this movie. At that time already I hoped to see it in 3D somewhere in time…
I wonder why all those people write that there are better movies to convert?
Terry, show them they are wrong, and go ahead with the best 3D conversion team, and put it on blu-ray 3D! Right now they can convert perfectly.
It will make many people like me with a 3D Home Theatre very happy 😃

Good to hear. I am wondering though why Gilliam is going to be making this thing in 3D? Are there plans to release it again for a theatrical run or just move it straight to a 3D BluRay version for all of these new TVs that are coming out that no one will be buying in the near future? I just find it odd to make this one of the first 3D films available to watch in your home when there are so many other movies that would benefit from 3D and give a better viewing experience.
It sure looks a hell of a lot better than any VHS copy I have ever seen, but a film this old needs a lot of remastering to make it worth BluRay.
Probably wasnt worth the leap to blu, but I love my blu collection so it got a place there with me just out of nostalgia.
Rodney, was it worth it to buy it on Bluray? I haven’t seen it in years but after watching that trailer I remembered how much I loved it as a kid. I hated the abrupt ending but otherwise the thing was visually imaginative and brilliant.
Might have to pick it up on Bluray if you say it looked noticeably better.
Thanks!
Time Bandits is one of the VERY few movies that should be remade. Saw it in theaters with my parents as a kid. I didn’t even know who John Cleese, Sean Connery, or David Warner (and whenever I see David Warner in movies, I think it’s EVIL) were.
I did enjoy the dwarves though…
