Fantastic Four Casting Sutherland or Willis as The Thing?

Seems the reboot of Fantastic Four (not Reborn as we were once told) has a pile of new rumours about who might voice the role of Ben Grimm.

ScreenRant says:

Fox is pursuing Bruce Willis to play Ben Grimm and the voice of CGI version of The Thing in the Fantastic Four quasi-reboot. I had heard the same throughout this last week without confirmation but I’m also hearing now that Kiefer Sutherland is the other choice of interest for the studio at the moment.

I really wonder about casting rumours like this when they haven’t even found their director yet.

David Yates, James McTeigue and Joe Carnahan are all rumoured to be considered for directing this, and depending on who they get will change the tone and requirements for the Fantastic Four roster.

I agree that the voice of Ben Grimm will need to have some recognition to lend some appropriate personality that the CG rock man won’t initially be able to convey, but also someone who can play the role in the beginning of the film before he is irreversably changed into the Thing.

While I have no issues with either Sutherland or Willis – both perfectly fine choices for the gruff lovable blue eyed Thing – I honestly don’t see them even having a phone call with an actor before they lock in a script and director.

  1. I thought Chiklis’ voice really hit the mark in the previous movies. You could feel it when he was amped up to fight and when he was moping over his physical form. But since this is a reboot I highly doubt any of the previous people will even be approached. Thing’s voice actor has to be someone with a gritty voice but not so gritty that you can’t tell his emotional state when talking (like I said above about being ready to fight versus being sad).

    Maybe Ron Perlman?

    1. Because the Surrogates showed his distinct taste for a winner.

You are talking about the man who starred in Hudson Hawk!!

And the failure of the previous franchise is only fuel on the fire to make this better. Fast reboots are in style lately.
