No Tony Stark in Captain America or Thor

Our assumption was to big. Tony Stark won’t be appearing in any sort of way on Marvel’s next two big films: Captain America and Thor. Iron Man 1 and 2 director, John Favreau, pretty much confirms this won’t happen.

MTV reports:

“[Downey’s] not in Thor, he’s not in Cap which are the two movies for next Summer,” “I’ll be very interesting to see how the Marvel Universe branches off. All of these movies are going to be taken into account for The Avengers in two years.” “I’m not sure where The Avengers goes,’ continued Favreau. “There is no shooting draft written yet. It’s gonna be a big undertaking for Marvel to actually incorporate what happened in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America [and] The Hulk.’ All that has to inform one unified vision in The Avengers.’ It’s a very exciting prospect. And certainly, Tony Stark is not going to be involved in any of the movies until that one.”

As much as I would’ve loved Stark to at least make a cameo in one or both of these films, I don’t mind it. It would’ve been awesome, but oh well. Having these films being made and released, for me, is enough. I’m all for the idea that Iron Man should at least be referenced or hinted at in both movies, or at least one. That would make fans excited.

Iron Man 3 is a no-brainer; but the question is: Does it come before or after The Avengers?

What do you guys think?

  1. I think it smacks of the studios not wanting to “gamble” on the success of Thor and Cap. Tony is a winner, I love RDJ however he is the only reason Iron Man was a success (oh and hollywood – whoops).

  2. Screw the Cameos at this point, I just want a kick-ass movie for both Cap and Thor. RDJ can come back in the Avengers.

be nice to see a left field cameo (Dr. Strange, Vision, Scarlet Witch, even Hulk)

    well see.

That Thor costume………..I wont say anything

  3. I agree with Zivane that Iron Man 3 will be coming after The Avengers…I get why RDJ won’t be able to do the cameos (still disappointed), but I’m hoping The Avengers makes up for it.

    1. Iron Man 3 will work if Stark decides to take a lone wolf approach to Mandarin. However, there will have to be Avenger cameos thoughout the movie to make sense. It will also probably give a hint to the villian in Avengers 2 (you now it’s going to happen, probably in 2015.) Maybe even a launching pad to add new Avengers not mentioned in the first one, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Hawkeye?????

  4. My guess is Ed Norton will have a cameo in Thor. And Hulk in Captain America, the movie might end with the ice cracking after Hulk runs by it.

    1. I won’t mind this at all. It would be cool to tie the whole thing with the snow/ice breaking thing by HULK…and thats how the discover Caps…that would be a nice touch…
totally agree with you Joe…i would like that…

Now…do we know where the hell HULK is at when he’s on that scene? place?
would that tie up with WWII….? what would make him end up there?

      love the idea.

  5. If Tony Stark (RDJ) is not appearing in any of these films, then I hope that the actors in Thor or Capt. America, have a large amount of charisma. RDJ has lots of it and makes it work wonderfully in both Iron Man films. With these two characters, there wont be a need for the joking of iron man, but the films shouldnt have a too serious feel to them, I believe.

  6. I’m excited now. If Tony Stark isn’t making an appearance in either of these films, someone usually has to so I wonder who it might be…Captain America in Thor? Thor in Captain America? Hulk? Should be great!

    1. Adox, yes….I did a post earlier about a younger Howard Stark being in Caps…
Like I said before – yes, of course Tony couldn’t be in the WWII part of the movie….but he could be
      towards the end…or on a after-credits scene.

And yes, maybe its not important to you… I just stated that It would’ve been cool to have him do a cameo
or to at least be hinted at during the movie’s final act…like MARVEL has been doing with all the other movies…
tying them up for The Avengers…

read again – its “wishful thinking out loud” ;)

  7. It wouldn’t make sense for Stark to be in Captain America, as the movie is going to generally be in the past and they already have his father. Sure perhaps in the bookend scenes, but we don’t know what that’s going to entail in the first place. Not sure about Thor.
