James Cameron Talks about AVATAR 2

It’s no secret in Hollywood when you create a cash cow, the inevitable sequel talk is not far behind. James Cameron sat down and talked about Avatar 2, and he had in mind a sequel even while filming Avatar.

Movies Online gives us the rundown:

“I’ve had a storyline in mind from the start — there are even scenes in Avatar that I kept in because they lead to the sequel,” Cameron says. “It just makes sense to think of it as a two or three film arc, in terms of the business plan.

The CG plants and trees and creatures and the musculo-skeletal rigging of the main characters — that all takes an enormous amount of time to create. It’d be a waste not to use it again.” Sam Worthington is already signed to play Jake Sully again, and he e-mailed EW some plot suggestions for the sequel: “Jake should have abused his avatar and be fat and unfit and demand Neyteri to get him a beer.”

I am still waiting for the Titanic sequel.

  1. First off i must say that this is the greatest movie i have seen in a very long time.
It had abit off everything, which is one of the reasons to its big hit. Everyone can see it and find something they like.

I really dont get why people keep on complaining about rip-off, i mean come on, so many movies are rip-offs. I can right now say 3 movies that has the same kind of story, the last samurai, the last of the mohikans, pochahontas and so on.
It does not matter if the story has already been told, what makes James Cameron so special is that he can use the same story and still make it such a success.

Second, about the storyline in Avatar 2.
I wish that JC dont feel the need to do a seaquel that has to top the first one with extreme battles and so on.
This is the main problem with most movies and TV series today. First movie/serie is a hit and then they do a sequal/2 season and that often is overachived and drops alot of viewers. But if you look at for example “Friends”, Star Wars and so on the kept the same storyline, just kept on building on the same concept and storyline and they where a hugh hit.

So i deeply hope that they dont make a second movie all about war and slaughter etc. That would be for a small group of people, mostly young once i guess, who love these action packed movies with a story about alien races and humans fighting without any serious story behind it.
Like Transformers, the first movie was okay, specialy if you had seen the series as kids, but the second one, storyless, just a bunch of effects and bling bling.
My wish for Avatar 2 would be to see more of the world of Pandora, the story between Jake and Neytiri. The culture of Na’vi and all the other tribes. No need to go all ballistic with universal superwars which we have seen a billion times already. Maby some storyline taking them to the planets around them where they encounter new problems and characters. But again, no need for epic wars.

So final words, i am looking forward to Avatar 2 and i whish and hope that it wont be another epic fiasko war movie, but more of the great in depth story of the Na’vis and their world as in the first one.

  2. I think if he originally planned to have 2 sequels then he must have some kind of story line already planned out.

It’s the same with SW, we’ve heard he originally planned 9 films, it was only the success of Ep IV that he was able to continue with ESB and RoTJ.

Avatar’s probably been a bigger success than JC or even Fox ever dreamed, so if he has a story, and hopefully it’s a good one, then I say go for it.

  3. I could actually be quite interested in Avatar 2, if they gave me promise that the whole “introducing the Na’vi” scenes don’t continue in it. For me the most boring thing about Avatar was the hour and a half where they just basically showcased their lifestyle and values. I got it from the trailer that their religion is nature, I don’t need to be explained it further for an hour and a half!

Avatar 2 could be more story based and less about introductions. Give Avatar 2 with a strong story or other theme that will really grip me, and I’ll pay for the movie ticket AND DVD(/BluRay).

    1. After paying the 9.50 to see a great movie in 3D, I actually don’t mind sitting there for almost three hours, I would have sat there for another hour of the “religion and nature”, it’s what the movie was all about. I don’t understand why people complain so much about long movies. If you want to sit through a short crappy CGI movie then plan ahead, look at the run times and go see the Chipmunks.

  4. I have to agree with the two commenters above.

I was actually hoping they would make more movies in the Avatar universe but not sequels or prequels I’d much rather see other stories in the world hes created.

Pandora is beautiful but how about in the next movie Pandora isn’t the center of the story.

I’d like to see him expand the scope of the project and maybe make a multi planet war sometime in the future etc.

I think Avatar was great but it certainly has the potential to be an entire world sort of like Star Wars IMO>

  5. “I’m still waiting for the Titanic sequel” LOL Me too!

I’m all up for an Avatar sequel, and I don’t agree with all this “Dances with Wolves ripoff” stuff. Many people praised Benjamin Button, including myself, but it had a lot of Forrest Gump in it. There are several movies that have similarities between each other.
