The Voice Of Mickey Mouse Passes Away

There is something about the voices of animated characters that have a much stronger attachment to us than even actors in live roles. Remember when the first Transformers movie was being pulled together? The loudest call by fans was to have Optimus Prime voiced by Peter Cullen… because that VOICE is important to us. We identify it, we are comfortable with it, we own it in a sense. Animated voices are special to us.

It could be argued that there is none more special than that of Mickey Mouse… and the man who has been giving us that iconic voice for the last 32 years has passed away. Wayne Allwine died from complications due to diabetes. Wayne Allwine was 62 years old.

    1. He’s the 3rd person. First was Walt himself, then Jimmy MacDonald, then Wayne. Mickey’s voice is easy enough to imitate that any number of voice actors could easily replace hin. With that said, it’s like Ronald McDonald, or the Muppets, or the Looney Tunes, no matter how close they get it’ll always be at least a little off.

  1. They can find someone to accurately mimic Mickey’s voice. They aren’t gonna get rid of their mascot simply because the voice actor has died. Disney doesn’t fuck around, especially when there’s $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to be made.

Having said that, as someone who went to sleep every night holding a Mickey toy as a kid, I’m very sad that he’s gone.

  2. wow, it is a sad sad day for all Disney fans.
2 b honest, im kinda surprised the voice of Mickey Mouse has been 1 dude for so long. Everything that involved Mickey Mouse, that dude did the voice for him.

Will Disney continue to write Mickey Mouse, or will Mickey too be laid to rest?
