Green Lantern Pushed Back To Summer 2011

Just the other day we mentioned that highly underrated actor (and future mega star) Bradley Cooper was on the short list for playing the lead role in Green Lantern. The release date for the movie was set for December 2010… but it appears the studio has had a change of heart and has bumped the date back 6 full months (giving it a June 2011 release).

Now, whenever we hear about films getting bumped back, we usually think negative things… but in this case my reaction is the opposite. I think the studio is showing a lot of confidence in the film by slapping it into the major summer blockbuster season (I was actually wondering earlier why they didn’t put it there in the first place).

So yes, sad for us that we’ll have to wait 6 more months for Green Lantern… but potentially very good for us at the same time. (source: BoxOfficeMojo)

  1. The movie is finally being made, the only thing left now is to find the perfect actor. The perfect Green Lantern will be Sam Witwer from Smallville. I know you must be thinking that I am crazy but just look at him. He has the face and build for the role. He is in about his late 20s or early 30s which makes him even more perfect for the part. He has acting experience so its not like another Brandon Routh incident will reoccur. If not him then I guess Chris Pine is the best rumored choice, but he is not a better one than Sam Witwer. If Pine was given the role he would be paid a ridiculous amount of money and everyone will view him as Captain Kirk, not Green Lantern. Pine also looks nothing like the Green Lantern…
I have many more reasons why he should play the Green Lantern. I am so confident in this that I have even written a petition. Here’s the link, read it and sign before you leave, I’m sure you will agree with me:

  2. @ robb Wo

If they use Legion, I would be SO stoked! That would mean they are making my dream film: adapting the mini-series Emerald Dawn as the origin story!

  3. This has been the friggin year of things getting pushed back. I’m pretty excited about this one too, simply because Martin Campbell (when someone gives him a good script) can make wonderful films.

I’m impatient, what can I say?

  4. I hate when studios push back movies to a later date, but business is business I suppose. Still I can’t wait for this movie. I wonder who the villain will be in this movie? Sinestro maybe?

    1. heard lots and lots about all different versions. i did hear at least once that the villain(s) is (are) Legion. supposedly will be more of an outer space scenario, so the universal scope of Legion might work better than Sinestro, I guess. But I do think he would be awesome for GL to fight onscreen, maybe in a sequel – assuming the first one ever comes out?!?!

    2. it’s still in pre-production? or is it, but that’s good. They can push it back all they want, it just gives them more time to get everything in order and not rush out a giant piece of crap. Now if it was already in the can, then I would be worried. and i would just hope that they flush it and pray there are no floaters.
