Richard Jenkins has been one of my favorite character actors for years, and I’ve been thrilled the last couple of years finally seeing him begin to get the credit his talent deserves. He can do just about anything on screen. In the same year he can get an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his amazing performance in “The Visitor“, and turn in one of the best comedic supporting roles of the year with “Step Brothers”. The man is amazing.
Anyway, it’s just been announced that Jenkins is joining the latest in a string of women-focused-book-to-movie adaptations “Eat, Pray, Love“. The good folks over at ComingSoon give us the following:
Richard Jenkins will star opposite Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love for Columbia Pictures, reports Variety. Based on the international best-seller by Elizabeth Gilbert, the story centers on a married woman who embarks on a journey of self-discover after trying to get pregnant and realizing that she’s not living the life she wants. Jenkins will play a Texan who Roberts’ character befriends at an Indian ashram. Ryan Murphy will direct and wrote the screenplay. Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner are producing through their Plan B.
I’ll admit that aside from the fact that most women I know have read this book, I know next to nothing about it. However, with Jenkins involvement, I’m suddenly interested.
Have you read the book? If so, do you think it’ll make a decent movie?
