The Macho Movie Review: Hercules Against The Moon Men

Hercules Against The Moon MenMy friend Wintle bought me a 50 pack of Sword And Sandal films before I left for Hollywood. He then bought a pack for himself, and we began discussion about going through the series together. Soon after, we decided to share our journey with all of you; and thus the Macho Movie Review was born.

Over the next 50 weeks, we plan to have a short podcast for you, discussing the Macho Movie of the week. We will be going through the Warriors Movie Pack made available through Mill Creek Entertainment. You can find the set for about 20-30 USD. We encourage all interested to buy the pack, and/or download the films that are public domain.

The Rating System: To go with the theme, we will be rating the films out of 9. The hydra has 9 heads, so we will be giving each film a rating out of that number – and will post a picture. For those of you that wish to skip the podcast and are not that keen on buying the set – keep an eye on the hydra. If you you see a film with 7-9 Hydra heads – you may want to track that particular film down.

Today Wintle and I discuss the ninth film in the series: Hercules Against The Moon Men

Plot synopsis from IMDB: In ancient Greece a race of evil aliens from the moon land on earth. For years they’ve terrorized the nearby city of Samar, demanding children for sacrifice. Now, the queen of Samar has made a pact with the moon men to conquer the world and become the most powerful woman alive. However, the residents of Samar, sick of all the chaos, cheer when the mighty Hercules shows up to put a stop to it all.

For those of you following along with us in the series, please share your thoughts in the comments section!

  1. I’m fairly sure I used a few wav files back in the first few podcasts, so yeah, send it to Nagy and we’ll try and sneak it into the show.

Thanks for the encouraging words. When I sent this to Nagy, he sent an email back at me praising this as one of his favourites. Too bad the sound quality was a little off. Now that we’re in the same vicinity it shouldn’t be as much of a problem. And I’m glad you liked our digressions into video box art. We’ll be doing more of that in the future, provided Nagy doesn’t keep trying to cut us short.

  2. I got a real kick out of this movie. I agree that Alan Steel was endlessly entertaining. You could tell that he had such a fun time with this. He was getting all the bitches and kicking everyone’s asses. I thought that even though it was truly silly this was a highly entertaining movie that unfortunately ground to a halt with the goddamn sand storm. I thought it deserved 6 hydra heads out of 9 and was glad to see that I was not the only one who though there was an unhealthy obsession with Alan Steele’s pecs. They should have had close ups on the women’s bare pectoral areas.

On a side note I found the discussion of using covers to find out which movies had the highest amount of debauchery to be hitting really close to home. I did the same exact thing when I was growing up. I was not able to get away with barbarian tit movies so I had to find more subtle ways. This began the start of my love of Troma films. Still though, it was very eerie. I reminds me of the time I watched that “Fear of Girls” internet film. Scary shit right there.

I must say that this was a thoroughly enjoyable podcast and I always look forward to these. I do have a question. I was able to record a file of a question that you could use on this for a Q & A session but I can only record it in a wav file and not mp3. You still want it?

  3. Doug this has nothing to do with Macho movie reviews, but more about the posters you were asking about. They only release a limited amount because posters of that quality are not cheap to make. They are about $2 a pop which adds up quick when they send more than one copy to each theatre that receives them. I have some of the tubs that some of the posters come in, if you want me to give you the address on them to write them or find a way to email them.
