Point Break 2 Details

Point Break 2I love Point Break. Probably my favorite Keanu Reeves film (not that there are many I like) and to me it’s the definitive Patrick Swayze role. A few years later a cheap disgusting rip off movie called “The Fast and the Furious” basically swept in and completely stole the plot, characters and even ending from Point Break. This past year, “Hot Fuzz” immortalized and paid supreme homage to the great film.

Anyway, there have been whispers about a possible sequel to the 1991 movie, which I personally would be more than pumped to see because I loved the characters so much. Our friends over at IESB give these details about a Point Break 2 project:

There has been no casting news even though the production company is believed to have reached out to both Reeves and Swayze, we also know that the movie will take place Indonesia, hence Point Break Indo, clever. Jan de Bont will be directing and the production company believes that they will be filming the “most extreme action stunts ever caught on camera.”

So what will the story be about? Here is your first look at the sequels’ synopsis. When Billy Dalton, military special ops and star surfer, is disqualified from the pro-surfing tour, he takes off for the coast of Bali looking for the perfect wave. While there he’s recruited by a private security force who are trying to find a gang known as The Bush Administration, surfing outlaws and modern day pirates who work like “The Ex-Presidents,” a bank robbing crew from Malibu twenty years ago.

Ok, since I’m interested in this film because of the characters… my interest in this film would take a MASSIVE nose dive if they didn’t get Swayze even Keanu Reeves back. I can live with it if they didn’t get Reeves and just recast his role with the same character, but I would admittedly have a hard time if it wasn’t “The Swayze” in there as Bodhi.

I can swallow recasting roles… but at least give me the same characters. If there is no Bodhi, then there is no Campea in the theater to watch it. It’s just that simple.

So what did you think of the original Point Break? Are you interested in a sequel? Yes? No? Why or why not?

  1. where are the old comments? did they get deleted when you were upgrading your site? i wrote a small script for the PB sequel and i can’t find it anymore. daniel

  2. Bodhi maybe died in the last seen. Falling off a wave that big does not have to kill you. So you can still bring Bodhi back. Except that Swayze is gone now (RIP). So they can still bring bodhi back and sure they can bring another actor to play Keanu roll. Chris Klein for example if they have too. The truth is yes I would love to see a part 2 but I don’t think there is any way they can top the original point break and what it brought to our minds and lives unless a the screen writer and the plot is just out of this world genius. Now who could play Bodhi? Hugh Jackman maybe.

    1. I like Hugh Jackman, but i don’t think he fits the ‘Surfing Guru’ role. Maybe someone charismatic like Johnny Depp, or Edward Norton. I really don’t know. It’s hard to do it without Patrick Swayze, God bless his soul.

  3. who knows the name of the actor from the scene where there on the beach with a blanket over there head and there smoking pot.and gary busey goes over 2 them and cuts a piece off one of there heads..the one with the red hair.what’s his name?

  4. Daniel your script is excelent!!
Can you imagine going to the cinema to see the movie for at least 10 times???
We have to pray for Patrick to get better…and keanu to accept performing the character again.
If all this happens, I dont know, its one of those things you say I have to watch before daying.
Bodhi is the best ever. I missed him.

  5. We gonna jump or jerk off?!

I like your comments guys. Some interesting suggestions as to how the sequel should be done. I like them all. PB is one of the most original and wired movies i have ever seen. I have seen it like 50+ times, and can’t get enough of it. My blood flows faster when i remember that skydiving scene! My opinion is, i’d love to see the PB2, and would love if Kathy did the directing. I’d definitely like to get Swayze, Reeves, Petty and Busey back, hell, John ‘SQUAT!!’ McGinley can come too :))

I would make the story to be a direct sequel of the original, pick it up 18 years later, casting original characters, opening with Pappas being retired and in the wheelchair, at some disabled veterans institution, after somehow surviving that shotgun, Utah and Tyler running a surf shop, taking care of him, and Bodhi alive and coming back to LA after 18 years, his past haunting him after the things went bad, real bad..

So, on a hot summer day, Utah hits the beach for a surf, and waits for his set. He sees a guy surfing the break, immediately drawing his attention, because the guy moves almost like Bodhi, and kinda looks like him. He stops cold, and watches him, and suddenly his heart starts to pump. He drops his surfboard, makes a beeline towards the guy and the guy starts to run. He chases him and crashes him in the water, football style, only to discover that he had seen a ghost. The guy takes off, Utah letting him go, confused, but a bit dazzled. He thinks of his buddy, his mind racing and wondering, could he have actually made it that day. Can’t be. Can it?

Meanwhile, Bodhi is back, wandering the streets of LA, no money, and no place to hide, a wanted criminal, searching for redemption, bumps into some surfers and hitches a ride to his old neighborhood. He finds that thigs have changed, and the life is tough, but only thing he wants right now is a surfboard and some good waves at the old break. The surfer dudes won’t let him have any of their boards, but tell him that there’s some surfshop near by, and he should check it out.

“T&J’s boards shop and repair” is about to close and it isn’t open till 10AM next day, and Tyler is finishing up and waiting for Utah to come home so they could go out for dinner. Suddenly, the rain starts to pour and she quickly picks up the surfboards in front of the store and puts them inside, unaware of his presence. Bodhi watches her from across the street, tucked in a raincoat and a hat he had stolen on the beach, looking like a tramp. She sees him, and yells “We’re closed till 10AM tommorrow” not paying much attention, the rain pouring and the wind starting to blow. He can’t take his eyes of her and keeps looking at her, his clothes soaking wet. A police car pulls up, the officer on duty tells him that the storm is coming and he better finds himself a dump, or he’ll be spending the night downtown. He stands still, keeps looking at the store, so the officer asks him if he’s deaf and threatens to cuff him. He says “OK” and turns away and starts walking down the alley, the annoyed cop closes the window and slowly drives away. But Bodhi turns back and comes to have another look and see if that was really her. It catches Tyler’s attention and she looks through the window at the still figure across the street. Their eyes meet and he quickly looks down, lowering the hat over his face. Tyler grabs hold of the counter, her heart sinks in disbelief, her face pale and eyes wide open, not sure if she saw what she thinks she saw. Suddenly a bus stops, and the man across the street enters it. He sits next to the window and looks at her again. She lets go of the counter, walks to the door and slowly opens it, stepping outside staring at him in shock. The bus starts to roll, and Bodhi turns his head away, in fear that she might recognize him.

In that moment Utah pulls up with his pickup truck, his surfboard sticking out, wondering what the hell is Tyler doing standing on the street in the middle of the pouring rain. He comes to her and sees her face and asks “What happened, what is it”, gently putting his shirt over her, trying to take her inside. “Tyler what happened, whats the matter, whats wrong?” he asks and she says “I think i just saw him, Johnny”, “I think I saw him..” “What? What are you talking about, who did you see baby, tell me?” “I think I saw Bodhi…”

    1. Holy Shit, dude. That is pretty detailed. Think that you should write a whole script for this movie.

  6. My favorite movie ever! First time I saw Point Break, I was around 12 or so. Back then I just thought it was a ok movie, I didn’t think anything of it. But now that I’ve watched it again, I think its an amazing movie. Spectacular and adrenaline rushing action to say the least. It has a meaning to it as well. The meaning is different from person to person.

Eh, I think there is no need for a sequel. Its hard for sequels to surpass the originals imo. To even equal the level of intensity of the first will be difficult.

Kinda like The Fast & Furious franchise. It seems the first one’s excitement hasn’t been recreated in the sequels, so to speak but thats my opinion.

Even if Point Break 2 doesn’t do well, I will still go see it with an open mind and not make comparisons to the first. And if its equally as good or way better, that would be sweet.

  7. First of all I think you cannt titile the movie “Point Break Indo” if the real ond only bodhisattva is on screen. I mean, we are talking about someone that once said “If you want the ultimate, you’ve got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It’s not tragic to die doing what you love”. Secondly, Johnny Utah should appear too, who can ever forget him saying “vaya con dios”, understanding bodhis way and sense of life. Please, you two gays do it for all the people in the world like me, If everything of this happens I dont surf at all, but I will be going to the cinema with a surf table. Lastly, Mark Isham must perform the music, what he did, 20 years ago, please, everyone must congratulate him. Im from Argentina and Im just 22 years old.

  8. Two words:

    US Marshals

A pathetic “sequel” to the mega hit, The Fugitive.

Id loved PB too, but a sequel is retarded. Godfather 3 anyone?

But I did like Jimbo’s story. Id watch that.

and lastly I can do without the surfing,

  9. hey guys – point break 2 would be excellent! but i have an off question – there is a song played in the background on the Pure Adrenaline special features section – its is played on the “on location Malibu” featurette and it comes on right after the actors who play Grommit and Nathan are talking and one says “you couldn’t have said it better yourself” “lets check it out” – then the song comes on (it sounds maybe instrumental) as the camera view strolls along the beach – it doesnt last very long either – i was wondering if any one can give me a name or artist – please!

  10. no way BRAAH, a sequal would be great, point break has been one of my all time favorites since i first seen it as a kid, it inspired me in so many ways. for those of you who say you dont want reeves in it, are just crazy, he complimented bodhis character so well, utah is what bodhi needed to show the kind of person that he was, to pass along his skills, and thoughts, and views, and lifestyle. they had their moments where they were friends even till the very end. what a good sequals direction would need to go is Utah hunts down bodhi, because he felt he made it out of the storm, and they set their differences aside, and be the last two of an all dead click, johnny once again is brought into bodhis new click, and bodhi has changed his ways, but the authorities are now after both of them, utah for aiding and abetting a fugitive, and bodhi for his old crimes, a lot of the same elements from the original movie, but they help each other out, tearing shit up in the process, and then end up on some far away island somewhere with a cameo of tyler in the end where they own some bar on a beach somewhereto jus live the rest of their lives all chill

  11. What’s all this talk about Busey? Do you guys not remember that Angelo Pappas got shot and killed at the airport? I agree, they could theoretically bring back Bodhi, but not Pappas.

There’s nothing more I hate than a sequel with an identical plot with the smallest of changes (i.e. Teen Wolf Too). I mean, c’mon, even the Karate Kids had different plots!

The best they can do with a non-Swayze/non-Reeves sequel is have some awol special ops guy from Hawaii single handedly take down some corrupt business syndicate who is trying to develop a mega-resort on land that belongs to a cherished and impoverished farming community in Indo that also plays host to some of the world’s best surfing.

  12. heres the trailor…johnny utah sitting at his desk. his phone rings (wait for it………………….) “hey bro” (a shot of keanu’s eyes lighting up. its bodhi)
bodhi: “I need your help johnny”.
sending johnny on a wild goose chase robbing banks, stores, houses. etc. anything to get bodhi his money before he kills johnnys family. (and of course some surfing & jumping out of a plane at some point.)

what do u guys think???? (btw…cannot make this movie w/out both reeves and swazye)

  13. jeez man the more i read the script synopsis the more i feel sick get real dudes some pro surfer goes to bali and gets recruited to work for a security firm that wants to find a bunch off surfing pirates it be like that bloddy film waterworld with costner with dudes with rabbit skins tied to there jet ski’s smoking ciggies and holaring abuse hollwood theres to many fucking tripped out dudes there ,why dont you go to degrassi junior high and ask a 14 year old grom to come up with a script and thats what they would come up with i feel sick dont do it please, jimmy fucking dalton hahaha what a bloddy joke what kind off drugs are they on ,id rather watch turtle and occy noth shore cheesy but funny watching laird gaylord’s dancing

  14. I think jimbo’s hit the nail on the head ,first off all lets make this a classic seq ,first off all give keanu and patrick what they want money wise we need them if we cant get them then theres no point ,i mean who wants to do a watch a seq with other dudes playing the part off johnny and bodi ,get katherine back she did a fantastic job now the plots got to be johnnys back home in california doing his life then he gets a call off john c mcginley saying that in indo the same things happening that was happening 20 years ago in california ,keep it simple dude and reeves with a new understudy like gossling ,affleck, etc goes out to get thse dude’s causing shit in indo with loads off surfing and action scenes ,imagine utah turning up at padang padang watching swayze getting this gnarley 10 second tube ride going thats bodi dudes i know his style keep it real dude get some good surfers involved like they did with archy but please dont have archy going left then right on the same wave they messed up on that one.. this film will not be worth watching if they have some dude thats dropped off the tour goes looking for a gang off bankrobbers what the f**** are you dudes thinking about get johnny back and especially swayze or it will go straight to dvd like lost boys 2 etc its a shame peace rod..

  15. I hate when they re cast characters in films. It completely looses credibility. I would love to see it if in fact they got Reeves and Swayze to commit and brought back the same director.I thik for a point break sequel a retired johnny utah is convinced Bodhi survived the wave and is back robbing banks again which Utah reluctantly feels compelled to track him down and finish what he could not in the first film. He takes on the role of elder statesman (ala gary busey in the first film) and convinces a young federal agent with surfing credentials (justin timberlake, ryan gosling, or casey afflek) to infiltrate the Bush Administration.

  16. Utah, give me two.

If they dont get Gary Busey to do it then dont even worry cause it wont happen without that man. He is TNT. They should just re-make point break with. same actors. same script. just 3 hours longer with more scenes with Bohdi and Johnny Utah.

  17. Phil, well said sir. And I could not agree more with your analysis. Nothing can kill the Swayze. Not even cancer (fingers crossed). “Little hand says its time to rock and roll.” “Pain don’t hurt.” “Nobody puts baby in the corner.” If he passes on, the good news is that he and Farley will be able to reunite for another dance-off.

  18. Todd, you should no better than that good sir. The golden rule of the unecessary sequel is ‘if the character doesn’t die on screen, they can be brought back’.

Sometimes it happens when the character has been killed on screen. Larry Drake’s character in ‘Darkman’ got blown up in a helicopter and came back for a sequel without a scratch. Louis Jordan’s character in ‘Swamp Thing’ turned into a freaky monster and got impaled by a giant sword but came back for the second film as if nothing happened. Whistler was clearly killed in Blade but they brought him back. I could go on and on.

Bottom line is Swayze cannot be killed be mere water. He will return.

  19. First time ever posting a comment, long time reader. Johnn you are MUCH smarter than that. Come on pal. Come on everyone, you have got to be kidding me. I have seen this movie no less than 200x. Please, go back and watch it. Bodhi died at the end. Sure its “implied,” but do you want to see a corpse on the beach? That is all.

  20. Hm, that would basically be like a Titanic 2… Patrick Swayze died in the waves at the end… so. (Ya, i know it was an open end..)
Anyway, Point Break is one of my favorite movies. The (surfing) atmosphere is so fucking breathtaking.
I usually don’t have anything against sequels, but a point break one? naah…

  21. I think you can count Patrick Swayze out because of pancreatic cancer. Not to sound doom and gloom but once you have been diagnosed that’s pretty much it… nothing and I do mean nothing can be done. Too bad because he’s a likable guy who plays likable characters.

  22. The ending was ambiguous, so there is a small chance that he survived. I love the idea of follow up movie of the Point Break but I don’t want to see more or less a rehash of the first film and thats what it sounds like instead this time instead of the undercover authority is a stud surfer instead of a newbie like Utah was.

I could really get into a movie that has Bodhi surviving and living the good life and falling back into his old ways but the generic scenario of Billy Dalton, military special ops and star surfer is downright retarded if you ask me.

Now if the Johnny Utah character was involved in it would make the story that much interesting and it would see like a follow-up rather than a semi-remake of the original.

I think it would be cool to see the Utah character and see what kind of man he became after the experience that he went through in the first movie. I think he’s a man that was really effect by Bodhi and for the better in the long run with the surfing and being one with nature type vibe that Bodhi had.

The way I would have it is that the Utah would be brought back in back into the fold when after awhile has gone by and the authorities have gotten nowhere and he’s been brought in as adviser because of his experience that he had with the ex-presidents.

If it had the basic element to it I would be very excited to see a sequel to Point Break.

It can be fairly similar to the others but it can’t be the same rehash or it will more or less be a direct to DVD film. Swayze and Reeves back is a must IMO if there characters are in the film.

  23. ya how do u know bohdi died…to me and all my forum buddies out there, in are heads he just took off after he rides a killer wave…..kinda like john said about the fast furious rip off crap…..he is right deisal walks so does bohdi…..and imo lori petty sux so ya we can leave her out of this.

and wtf no one would rather see a bill and ted part 3

  24. Hey Darren,

    1) They Don’t mention Utah, but I 100% guarantee you that if they can get Reeves to sign on, he’ll be the lead character.

    2) You never see Bohdi die. It’s only assumed.

  25. The plot sounds great, but I’m sorry to remind you, Gio, but:

    1. The plot does not mention Reeves character Johnny Utah.

    2. Bohdi died at the end of Point Break. Still, maybe the Zen master bank robber has a brother or cuz ready to take the slack and strinke out at The Man/System. Thus, Swayze returns. (Or Bodhi’s bro is with the FBI …)

    3. The most likely character to return is John McGinley.

    4. I dig DeBont now and then, but I want to know where the lovely Kathy Bigelow is hiding out. Don’t you?

  26. john i am probably closer too you now then i ever been just cause i know u care about PBII , MAN IF THEY GOT BOTH STARS FOR THIS MOVIE….hell get garey busey too….he could have a cameo lol no jk but seriously i would see this movie alone with just swayze cause i kinda think the stories plot kinda excludes reeves…unless he has a cameo or sometjing like deisal had in fast furious tokyo at the end…..but im sure it will turn out to be a direct to dvd kinda deal with some lame ass non swayzeish style actor…..dude swayze is the man and i would rather see reeves in another bill & ted journey then in PBII….Just my opinion.
