There’s a new film going into production that has (for sad reasons) really caught my attention. The movie is called “Black Death” and it has just signed up a pretty decent looking cast with Lena Headey (Terminator TV Show, 300) and Sean Bean (One of the best actors out there who gets next to no attention).
The basic idea of the film looks like this:
Set in an apocalyptic medieval world during the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England, the Ecosse Films production details the story of a band of brothers whose quest is to hunt down a necromancer. Friend will play a young monk sent to investigate rumors of people being brought back to life, and Bean has been cast as a mercenary priest who arrives in the same village. Against the backdrop of the peaceful village lies a pact with the forces of darkness, orchestrated by the village ruler (Headey).
Giddy Up! Count me in! Headey has been doing a terrific job on Terminator filling the almost impossible shoes of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor and Sean Bean just rules. Throw in anything that is medieval based with necromancer and dark rouge priests and I’m a drooling fanboy in the seat.
Sean Bean is underrated in the US but he’s very popular in Europe and in Britain. He’s the one to watch!
I don’t agree with your praise regarding Lena Headey. She definitely is not capturing the borderline psychosis of Sarah Connor that Linda Hamilton made real for me in the 90s. Maybe it’s the fault of the writers, but I think she could be a lot tougher and less vulnerable this early in the story.
Lena has been great in films like Brothrs Grimm and 300; the only downside to the casting is that, the way things seem to be going, once the WGA strike is done, Lena might just be back as Sarah Connor for a second season.
Downside as in scheduling issues, nothing more.
I’m right there with you John. This sounds very cool with an intriguing cast.
Lena Headey is quickly turning into my new role model. She is BADASS.
