Nicholas Cage Wants Ghost Rider 2

Ghost-Rider-2-CageYou know, despite the fact that it was a pretty awful movie, there was still some enjoyment factor with the first Ghost Rider movie. Some of the dialog was horrible, there was zero chemistry between Cage and Eva Mendes (one of the most beautiful women on the plantet) and the visual effects of Ghost Rider looked pretty bad (Except for his transformation effects which looked really solid), but still, I can’t put my finger on it but there was at least some “fun” in it. A bad movie… but I’d be up to seeing if they could improve upon it with a sequel.

Look like Nicholas Cage thinks so too. The Oscar winning actor recently said in an interview with ComingSoon:

“All they have to do is call, and I would love to see that happen. That would be fun”

Just because the star is into it doesn’t mean anyone else would be. Ghost Rider was pretty much universally hated by fans and critics alike. Movie made money… but I doubt there are profitable prospects for a sequel.

  1. I remember once Cage said in an interview that he put off doing a superhero for so long because he wanted something different. Well it was but the script really let him down. Sequel no chance!

He should let it go and maybe do the comic hero Luke Cage next

  2. “you gotta cut the special effects team some slack. creating fire effects is one of the hardest things to do. they worked their asses off on all the fuckin fire effects and I think they did a great job for what could possibly be done. that’s why there wasn’t a shit load of scenes with Ghost Rider. too fuckin hard and too much money.”

isn’t that a good argument for just not making Ghost Rider movies. At least not when there are great characters like Sub-Mariner out there. All you’d need is a bucket and your effects are done.

ps. a motion capture Sub-Mariner flick set under water would actually be pretty bad-ass.

pps. staring the esteemed Wes Bently as our underwater friend.

“If they did a number two, they would have a chance to create something bigger and better.”

    hilarious!

I’m really worried that ghost rider 2 will get in the way of the upcoming Power Pack franchise.

  4. Nicholas Cage lives like five minutes from me, I will stone his house if he makes another Ghost Rider.

I’d like another Face/Off though, i know his character died, but they can still cut off his face and put it to use. Hence Face/Off/On.

p.s. That whole Face/Off thing i just said was a bad idea and i take it all back.

  5. Yes, Ghost Rider’s FX were great…with Ghost Rider and the fire effects, anyway. The Wes Bentley pack were nothing great, in the theatrical cut Bentley wasn’t that scary or impreessive. Sam Elliot, Donal Logue..they were…well, however good Sam and Donal usually are. I don’t know if Sam’ll be back (@MSJ: next time, don’t promise a possible Ghost Rider/ Old West Ghost Rider team up on the masses with a wink and then don’t deliver the goods!) I’m pretty sure Donal won’t (character was killed off; Donal’s agent gets a bonus) …only one I heard so far is Peter Fonda.

I really liked Nic Cage. Not as much as I liked him in Next, but he was alright. Eva’s a doll, she’s a good actress…but why did the powers that be make her character so incredibly hot while at the same time make her look incredibly stupid?

If In’l friend Rusty is right…I don’t really care in MSJ goes so far down the Marvel Tier he directs a Slapstick movie. After Daredevil and Rider, I would rather see him do other genres. Big ass kicking Fantasy film. Give the masses another Simon Birch. Something…

But should he return to Marvel land (*or jump ship for a DC property like everyone else) I would rather him be on Ghost Rider 2 that Daredevil 2.

Note: MSJ extended/re-edited cut of GR was far better than the theatrical version. I think from now on, he should turn in his second cut for the studios, and not his first.
    Maybe that’s just me though.

  6. you gotta cut the special effects team some slack. creating fire effects is one of the hardest things to do. they worked their asses off on all the fuckin fire effects and I think they did a great job for what could possibly be done. that’s why there wasn’t a shit load of scenes with Ghost Rider. too fuckin hard and too much money. The fact that the fire effects were so hard and complicated to do, made “people” not want to make the film and it was held off for that reason.

so, yes it was a bit cheesy at times, but it was fun, like you said john. I wasn’t really expecting more from the film. I wanted more, but I wasn’t expecting anything more. If they did a number two, they would have a chance to create something bigger and better.

People need to learn how to not over-anticipate a film and learn how to not expect more than what a film can and is gonna give you and the experience is a lot more enjoyable. For instance, if you went into snakes on a plane thinking it was gonna take it’s self serious at all, then you would’ve fuckin HATED it. It was definitely one of the cheesiest movies ever made and everybody who saw it, expected that. point made.

  7. To be fair, worse movies have had sequels made. Did Daddy Day Care deserve Daddy Day Care? Did High School Musical deserve High School Musical 2? Did Are We There Yet? warrant Are We Done Yet? Please tell me noone out there thought that Baby Geniuses warranted not only one, but possibly 2 sequels. Please, please tell me that. Terminator 2 was amazing and a sequel was well deserved. Unfortunately, the sequel was barely enjoyable, and now there are talks of T4? Is that more deserved than a Ghost Rider 2? Tough call.

I realize that I am hardly the target demographic for a lot of those movies. I realize that Ghost Rider wasn’t the greatest movie ever made. If they make another one, I will see it. And I will probably even enjoy it much more than I did with all the aforementioned movies. Although that might not be an issue because the thought of watching Baby Geniuses makes me want to gouge my eyes out.
