Bourne Ultimatum DVD Arrives Dec 11th

Bourne-Ultimatum-DvdThe Bourne franchise has been an amazing success by anyone’s standards, although I wasn’t all that thrilled with the first two installments. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the first 2… but found they lacked too much, not to mention the Bourne movies have become the poster children for the cancer of “Shaky Camera Syndrome” that so many movies use today.

Having said that, I really did enjoy The Bourne Ultimatum and thought it was easily the best of the bunch. Better pacing, better narrative, better tension and a little less shaky camera (although it was still a problem. Anyway, the word is that The Bourne Ultimatum DVD is coming our way on December 11th. Our friends over at MoviesOnline give us some details on the DVD specs:

* Deleted Scenes
* Man on the Move: Jason Bourne: In this five-part making-of, tour the world with Matt Damon, director Paul Greengrass, producer Patrick Crowley and producer Frank Marshall, as they give us an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at everything from Matt Damon’s rooftop chase in Tangier and shooting in fully functioning Waterloo Station, to Damon’s jump from a moving train in Berlin.
* New York Chase: Follow second unit director Dan Bradley as he choreographs the chase sequences, and watch the chase through car-mounted cameras.
* Planning the Punches: Watch as actors Matt Damon and Joey Ansah go through fight training with fight choreographer Jeff Imada.
* Rooftop Pursuit: Follow Matt Damon and crew as the Bourne team sets up a cable camera to follow him jumping across rooftops in Tangier.
* Driving School: Second unit director Dan Bradley and Matt Damon explain the preparation needed for the New York car chase.
* Feature Commentary with Director Paul Greengrass and Actor Matt Damon

The film ends the franchise in a perfect way… but I’ve got to admit it left me wanting a bit more. Recently Matt Damon said the door is SLIGHTLY open for then to return to Bourne sometime again in the future… and I’d be open to it too.

** Sorry Blu-Ray Player owners… for those of you who like your movies in HD, The Bourne Ultimatum is ONLY being released in HD DVD format **

  1. It really is amazing how much the opinions can very because I thought the first Bourne was decent, but hardly anything spectular.

I enjoyed Supremacy a little more than the first film.

And I thought the Ultimatum blew them both out of the water. Personally, I thought it was the best action film since the original Die Hard came out in 1988. Just my opinion. The Waterloo Station and Tangier scenes were incredible.

  2. My widescreen Ultimatum locks up at 1:18:53. I bought my first dvd from Best Buy in Virginia and my second one from Circuit City in Maryland. Both freeze at the same identical moment. Can’t wait to try one from the District of Columbia!

  3. neMy widescreen Ultimatum locks up at 1:18:53. I bought my first one from Best Buy in Virginia and my second one from Circuit City in Maryland. Both lock at the identical moment. Can’t wait to try one from the District of Columbia!

  4. 3 of us at work bought the widescreen release… all 3 were freezing up about 1hr 15min on the player counter. It locks up the player where you need to kill the power .. all 3 DVDs returned to Walmart.. rented from Blockbuster, this locked up as well… returned it as defective got another from Blockbuster, it finally played without a hitch… I wonder how many thousand Walmart is selling that might be defective?

  5. Anyone else have playback problems with the widescreen version? I took mine back to Wal-Mart, got a second one and that locks up in the same spot as the first one.

  6. I didn’t see any of the Bourne films until early this year. I saw the first one and was a little underwhelmed and didn’t get around to seeing the second one until after i’d seen Ultimatum. I really enjoyed the set pieces and the relentless pace of Ultimatum but felt that it did end abruptly. On the other hand, i finally got around to seeing Supremecy on Saturday and thought it was a cracking thriller and my personal favourite.

I think the comparisons to Bond are silly but it’s been nice to see a trilogy that takes its time with the story and doesn’t jump the shark in the third chapter.

  7. The first Bourne-movie was the best.
The sequels were solid as well and featured some pretty decent action sequences.
But the story was more or less identical in all three installments and the character Bourne became less and less interesting.
Part three was good, but it really could have been subtitled “THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM: MATT DAMON WALKS HASTILY THROUGH CROWDED AREAS!” Because that’s what happened in about 70 percent of the film.
This series is done. Let it rest for 10 years at least.

  8. I love this series, one of the better franchises in the day and age of “three-quels”. I would love to see them come back to this series in 5-10 years with a great script.
