The Simpsons Movie was late in coming… it was a pretty solid movie… but certainly not worthy of the tagline “18 years in the making”. Still, that hasn’t stopped the film from grossing almost $500 million dollars world wide already… and it’s still counting! Obviously another Simpsons movie is on the drawing table as we speak right? Well… no.
Our friends over at Slashfilm give us this:
Simpsons executive producer Al Jean says there are no current plans for a sequel. “We would only do a sequel if we believed it was a movie that had to be made, just like we did with the first one,” Jean told the New York Post. “We wouldn’t want to do it just because the first one was successful, or because we wanted to make money off of a movie. We’d only do it if we had a script that we thought was great [and] there’s no script at this point.”
Ok, first of all that’s a load of crap. I HATE it when a studio says “we don’t want to do it just to make money”. BULL. If it wasn’t to make money you wouldn’t get out of bed in the morning at 7am. If it wasn’t to make money you’d sit at home, have sex, drink, watch tv, eat, and never change out of your pjs. Don’t hand me this crap that it’s “not to make money”. IT’S YOUR BUSINESS… IT’S YOUR JOB… IT’S ALL ABOUT MAKING MONEY. So please don’t hand us that line of crap. Do something quality along the way… make it as good as you can with as much artistic merit as you can… but don’t give me “It’s not about the money”.
All that statement really means is that they haven’t gotten to it yet… and may not for a few years… but I guaran-damn-tee you there will be another Simpsons movie…. and I can give you over 500 million reasons why.
