Jigsaw In Punisher: War Zone Cast?

Paddy-JigsawOne of the very few recurring villains in the Punisher story line is Jigsaw (The Punisher is known to render his adversaries… well… dead a lot… so there aren’t a lot of main stays). Jigsaw (aka Billy Russo) is much like a Batman villain. A crime thug, an assassin for the mob type… but he’s also physically like another Batman character, Two Face, in appearance thanks to Punisher putting him through a big happy piece of glass face first.

Anyway, it appears the studio have found their man to play Jigsaw. Paddy Considine (who was one of the Andy’s in Hot Fuzz) is claiming he’s been offered the role as the big bad guy. The folks over at ComingSoon offer up this:

Actor Paddy Considine (The Bourne Ultimatum, Hot Fuzz) has revealed here that he has been offered the role of villain Jigsaw in Lionsgate’s Punisher: War Zone. He said he’ll be reading the script today. To be directed by Lexi Alexander (Green Street Hooligans), the new film will be set in New York, where Frank Castle runs up against a mobster. Ray Stevenson takes over the Castle roll from Thomas Jane.

You know… my first reaction to hearing this was “pishaw… this guy isn’t physically intimidating in the least”… but then I thought about it for a moment… and Ben Foster (Angel in X-Men 3) looks like a total pansy and scared the freaking crap out of me in 3:10 To Yuma… so if he plays the part right that won’t be a problem.

Unless I’m mistaken, this would easily be the biggest role Considine has ever has in his career, so even though he’s saying “I’m reading the script today”, don’t think for a second that he didn’t accept the role the moment they asked. Here’s how the conversation went:

STUDIO GUY: “Hey we think we have a role fo….”

PADDY: “YES… DEAD GOD YES!”

  1. He’s not doing it. He seems pretty pissed about the whole thing, too–apparently they only offered it to him to kind of coax their first choice for the role to take it.

A sequel to a flop really shouldn’t be playing hard to get with their potential actors. They should be happy that they’re getting a cast at all.

  2. Condescending much? A sequel to a mediocre comic book movie would be lucky to get Paddy Considine! And yes T-Dog, people outside of England have seen the incredible flick DEAD MAN’S SHOES, it played TIFF 3 years ago.

  3. Yep, the comments regarding Dead Ma Shoes are spot on.

His character in that film is terrifying and his acting of the role was spot on, I abolsutely shat it when I watched it.

And as for the word intense, I think that about sums up his performance. Go watch it right now!!

  4. I concur. I saw Dead Man’s Shoes about six months ago. It’s one of those films which isn’t entirely enjoyable to watch (as it depicts a horrible class of person) but haunts you for weeks after. Paddy Considine is nothing short of terrifying in it. British critics compared him to De Niro/Travis Bickle at the time.

Personally I would be surprised if he agreed and went that route…

  5. Paddy isn’t intimidating? Has no one outside of England seen Dead Man Shoes?! This guy absolutely rules. Definitely one of the greatest actors out there – he is just so intense in character. If he is in Punisher they have bagged an absolute gem and I will be there on opening day. Seriously though – if you haven’t seen Dead Man Shoes you owe it to yourself to rent it on DVD NOW! One of my favourite of all time

  6. Paddy’s a great actor, so it would be great if he did take the part of Jigsaw. But, I think he would be better as Detective Soap, he kinda resemble that charactor more.

  7. Paddy Considine is one of those actors that just does a bang-up job in the parts that he plays. He was in a movie that I am dying to see but has yet to come out here on video called “Dead Man’s Shoes” which looks AMAZINGLY violent but really cool. He was also in another movie that practically put me to sleep but his job in it was outstanding called … ummm … “My Summer of Love” (which has girl on girl action but takes all the awesomeness out of it).

For a while there I think he was also rumoured to be cast as Rorshach in the Watchmen movie (which we now know is going to someone else).

That is the great thing about some actors though. Sometimes they make you laugh and sometimes they scare the piss out of you. And sometimes they put you to sleep even though they have a girl on girl scene (Sorry that one jsut gets under my skin).
