Matt Damon As Kirk Officially False

Right near the beginning of all the new Star Trek movie buzz there was a persistent rumor (that has pretty much survived to this day) that Matt Damon was going to suit up as the younger Captain James T. Kirk. No matter how many times it was denied by those who knew Damon, the rumor survived.

Well… the rumor is now officially dead. The good folks over at moviehole give us the following:

Damon tells IGN Movies that rumours that he’ll be wearing Starfleet stripes were purely internet rumours. He even went so far as to ask director J.J Abrams what the deal was – Abrams informed Damon that he wouldn’t be the right guy for the role anyway, because the Kirk in this movie is in his early twenties.

So there you have it. Matt Damon is NOT going to be James Kirk. Now we can all focus our attention on cheering for the REAL man who should be wearing the captain’s uniform… Cory Haim!!!!

  1. Y’know, as far out as the Corey Haim comment was, I can’t help but look at the picture in the article below and think, “stranger things have happened…”

  2. wow, would think that people would embrace this role but, it looks like Damon was flustered about these rumors, well that is understanable. I do think he would make a great Kirk Damon has the range and the look. Well i guess we will see will take the role shortly.
