Anne Hathaway In Dancing with Sheba

Hathaway-4There are a few actresses in Hollywood who are so beautiful that when you see them, you mouth just involuntarily shapes the words “Oh… My… God”. Anne Hathaway is one of those actresses (she probably has the best smile in movies). As a bonus, the lady can actually act too! Nice (and sadly rare) combination.

Continuing her break out of the “I’m a good little princess” stereo type, it looks like she’s getting into the sweet cocaine for her next flick “Dancing with Sheba”. Our friends over at Cinema Blend give us this:

The story comes from an interview Blackfilm did with Miss Anne, in which she talks about her upcoming projects. Top of her list is a movie called Dancing with Sheba, which she says is a Jonathan Demme movie. It’s a dark comedy, in which Hathaway plays an ex-model who’s been in and out of rehab for 10 years. Keep in mind here that Anne Hathaway is only 24… so I’m not sure how that’s going to work. Maybe she started really young. In any case, the film picks up with its coked out model after she leaves a long stint in rehab and arrives home in the midst of her sisters wedding… and presumably tries to keep the coke out of her nose.

I love it. Hathaway seems to be able to seamlessly float between good little girl (Princess Diaries, Ella Enchanted), to dirty little girl (Havoc, this new film) and comedy (The upcoming Get Smart). By keeping herself moving across the various genres and various character types she really seems to be growing a lot as a performer and avoiding that dreaded typecasting she seemed destined to be stuck in early on in her career.

As far as Dancing With Sheba is concerned, I’m curious as to what kind of angle they’re going to take with it. From the short description, it could go a lot of ways. Tragic drama. Light comedy. We’ll have to wait to hear more about this one.
