Aaron Eckhart Says Harvey Dent AND Two Face In Dark Knight

TwofaceI don’t think there is a single person I’ve talked to about 2008 that hasn’t put the new Batman flick “The Dark Knight” on their top 5 most anticipated films list. Batman Begins was just such a triumph for the franchise that so badly needed a major kick in the ass to get moving again… and Christopher Nolan gave it that swift kick.

The ONLY concern I hear from people about the upcoming film is the fear that Nolan may be falling into the trap that so man have fallen into before (including previous Batman movies) of feeling the need to throw in MORE character and villains to the point where the film feels bloated and too diluted. Most fans were calling for The Joker to be the next villain in the franchise… and he is. But on the heels that Anthony Michael Hall may be playing the Riddler, comes this new from our friends over at Latino Review:

Garth ‘The Main Man’ Franklin over at Dark Horizons was able to pull even more details out of Aaron Eckhart about his upcoming role as Two-Face. What did Aaron say? “Well I will only say that in Batman I am both Harvey Dent and Harvey Two-Face. “

I was thrilled when I heard they added Eckhart to the cast of Dark Knight… this is a man who just doesn’t get enough credit as an actor (but that will change soon enough). But when I heard he was playing Harvey Dent, I assumed that they would just be keeping him as Dent for the whole film and MAYBE set something up for a latter movie involving Two Face (For those of you who may not know, Harvey Dent is the D.A. in Gotham City, and a friend of Bruce Wayne, who after a horrible incident where The Joker throws acid in his face become the villain known as Two-Face).

So what do you think? Are you getting nervous about all this villain talk? Or does the announcement that Two-Face will indeed be showing up in the movie excite you?

  1. Please have faith in Nolan he nailed the first film and he WILL get this one perfect – lets not fall under the pretenses that the joker will be anything like Jack Nicholson’s potrayal (as enjoyable & brilliant as it was)- Ledger will prove to be THE Joker through this film & theres no way he’ll be killed off – i have been researching this movie for ages and anyone whos being paying attention will know that ( Please dont read on for danger of spoilers here ) Rachel Dawes will be the love interest of Dent setting up a bit of friendly rivalry between Bruce Wayne and himself – We WILL see Dents up and coming split-personality in the humananised form of scizophenia – The Joker kills (along with more than a few more) Rachel Dawes after kidnapping her and Gordon and setting a trap for Batman – After seeing this Dent goes crazy blaming Batman for not saving her and then attacks the joker – But the scarring will be post credits in the 3rd film in what is the Jokers trial pointing to the fact Nolan will not kill off the only TRUE Nemises of Batman – the only thing i cant find is how exactly the Joker becomes – the only thing i can read up on is the comic Ledger was handed in reasearching the role – one called The Killing Joke

BRING THIS FILM ON IT WILL BE BETTER THAN BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Multiple villains is NEVER a good sign in my book, but I’m going to reserve bad thoughts. I didn’t have faith in Nolan the first time around, and I ended up having to chomp down major league crow. Mr. Nolan, do as you wish……………just don’t fuck up:)

  3. I have no faith in Nolan. I hated Batman Begins, it was just as bad a flick as Batman & Robin, but for different reasons. I think Dark Knight is gonna end up like Warren Beatty’s Dick Tracy movie, with an overdose of villians. Even the Adam West Batman movie, with four villians pulled it off better than recent movies.

  4. Well here’s the thing. If Joker is responsible for Havey Dent turning in to Two Face then they would need to have that happen in the movie because the way it seems to go in these comic book movies is the main villain dies by the end of the movie so if joker were to die in this next one they wouldn’t be able to have him in the movie following in order to “create” two face. So Harvey Dent will probably just turn into Two Face at the end of the movie.

  5. IMO, the number of villains in the movie doesn’t matter, as long as the character development is done well.

With this next Batman film, I hope that they give it more of a ‘darker element’ unlike Spiderman 3 and the last few batman films.

  6. i am not worried about the number of villians in the new Batman and having 2.5 villians in Spider-MAn 3 didn’t wreck my enjoyment of that film (htat’s right i liked it. even saw it twice!!!! but Transformers was the best film of the summer by far). i used to read the comics of these characters i go to see on the big screen, and Spider-Man in particular, there were always a zillion characters in those boks. while they may not have all been villian arcs, the comics were always busy. Spidey and his fights with the Sinister Six comes to mind. Batman was another one; on occasion he too had more than one “Big Bad” to deal with. have things become that bad that the movie going public can’t focus on more than 3-4 characters in a movie? plus with the new Batman, who knows how long any of these villians are going to be on camera? til a script shows up or better yet til i see the movie, i won’t worry.

  7. I’m not worried this will fall into the spidey 3 mistake of having one too many villains…now if they announce that the riddler is going to be in it…then i’ll start to worry..but for now I trust Chris Nolan…

  8. :::::::::::::Possible Spoiler for those who’ve not read the comics::::::::::::::

If memory serves, Joker squirted acid in Dent’s face during the court hearing that sentenced Joker to Arkham Asylum in the comic.

I agree with everyone here that this is most likely a set up for the 3rd film. We’ll likely see the end court room drama played out and Joker being taken away, but before he’s dragged out, the acid will be sprayed and Two-Face will be created.

Dent will go mad and blame Batman for it and we’ll see Two-Face in the mirror as the ending sequence of the film.

Just my two-cents. No pun intended. :)

  9. i am really nerves about that i relly don’t think we need two face int eh dark night for him in part 3 woud be fine in part 2 lets jsut have him as dent and have hin scared at teh end and have him as 2 face for part. And i relly don’t think the riddler for the moves eather i think the joker and two face is enought. Spider-man 3 proved that 3 villions jsut don’t work

  10. “Harvey Dent is the D.A. in Gotham City, and a friend of Bruce Wayne, who after a horrible incident where The Joker throws acid in his face become the villain known as Two-Face.”

Think you answered your own question in your story… If Two-face is created by the Joker, would make sense that he was in the Batman movie featuring the joker….

  11. Isn’t it odd that he referred to “Harvey Two-Face” and not simply “Two-Face”? Couldn’t he just be suggesting that we see a darker side of the Dent character in addition to his public persona?

  12. Judging from what Salem said about Two-Face being in Batman 3 I am inclined to agree with the majority about when and how Two-Face will apear.
But if thats all wrong then they should have called this…………..
Batman: The Real Wat To Pull A Spider-Man 3!

  13. There is bound to be a backlash when Polyvillainitus strikes. I think it would be an interesting avenue to follow if a movie and its sequels went old school and had One Hero VS. One Villain. The Same Villain. Over and Over.

  14. It’s always a concern that there will be too many villians, but so did Batman Begins, and it turned out to be great. Yes, it does appear that Two-Face will be in The Dark Knight, but we all know that he’s also going to be in the 3rd film (confirmed by Goyor and Nolan last year) so we don’t have to worry about him becomming…Venom so to speak. Nolan recognizes his importance, unlike Rami, who hated Venom to begin with.

Worry not, and have some faith in Nolan!

  15. I’m pretty sure the whole Two-Face thing is the setup for Part 3, where Harvey will be the main villain. “Dark Knight” will probably end with the Joker disfiguring Dent and blaming it on Batman. Something like that.
Oh man, I simply CANNOT WAIT for this fucking movie to come out.

  16. Batman Begins we had Ra’s Al Ghul, The Roman, Joe Chill, Victor Zsaz, John Crane plus your general thugs, Detective Flass and other corrupt cops, Arkham inmates and Mr. Earle. Spider-Man 3 was just poorly written, and was fucked in that sense from the start.

We have no real way of knowing if The Dark Knight is poorly written until we see it, like with any movie. And I don’t believe AHM is playing the Riddler, just doesn’t make much sense. The rumor is he’s playing a character he is bad, but is really good; Matches Malone.

  17. I’m guessing Scarecrow will just a cameo in this one. Might be stopped at the start of the film. Joker will be the main villian of this film. Dent will be getting hunted by The Joker. I persume by the end of the flick something will happen to him, setting Two-Face up for the sequel.

  18. I believe if they do bring in Two-face (as mention before) it will be setup at the end of the film (since the joker throws the acid on his face to turn him into two face). That would be fine, or even if its halfway into the movie, as long as it is done right, we can see him in the film.

  19. I hope he appears as two face in only the final scene or a bonus clip at the end of the credits.

Bald Steve good idea there, I see it as the superhero equivalent of the begginning of Rocky 3. I love montages.

  20. I still had a dream that was easy enough to do in ALL of the Batman films, hell even in the Spider-man films. You could cram 10 Villains in each movie if you wanted to show off. All they had to do for Batman was show Arkham with people in their cells. Spider-man blew it in the biggest way though. We all know there are villains that could NEVER hold a movie, namely Hydro-Man, Rhino, (I still believe) Vulture, Puma, geez I could go on and on, but who’s to say we couldn’t get bad-ass montages at the beginnings instead of 6 minutes of cgi webs and credits. You could have him fighting them and show newspaper headlines to fill in gaps between the films.

If they want to cram villains in then do it, but we sure as hell don’t need 1/3 of the story to be pulled towards them to flush them out.

  21. Just a thought, but since Two-Face is created when the Joker hits him with Acid, we could easily have Two-Face born at the end of the film during the climatic battle with the joker. An acid attack that disfiguring would leave the victim incapacitated for some time and unable to be a villain in this movie.

This would setup movie 3 while giving the Dent character time to develop.

  22. I’m getting extremely nervous about it and i wish that Latino Review would get their hands on the script and just clear up the whole Two-Face thing because it’s frustrating.

My main basis for knowing how great Two-Face can be handled is Batman: the animated series. You have to let Harvey Dent play out as a character first before he becomes a villain and i just can’t see it working if they pull a Venom on him and he becomes Two Face in the final third of the film just so Batman can take on 2 bad guys (and take focus off the Joker where it should be). I want ‘The Dark Knight’ to be about Batman, Gordon, and Harvey Dent forming a pact to bring down the Joker no matter what the cost. If, during the finale, Dent gets the acid in the face (the price he has to pay for bringing down the Joker) and becomes Two Face in the final few minutes, setting up the thirs film then ‘bravo’. That’s what i want to see.

Otherwise though, i cannot wait for TDK, or Bond 22, or Harry Potter 6. 2008 is gonna be great.

  23. So at the moment there scarecrow, joker and two face in the same movie! Sounds interesting but surely its in danger of pulling a spidey 3 here?
On the other hand if its done properly maybe it could be wicked with the caped crusader up against it with three criminals running around causing chaos. One saving grace is that there will be no whinning emotional female dragging him down when he is trying to save the day!
