Nick Stahl In Terminator 4 By Contractual Default?

nickstahl.jpgWhen the right to Teminator were sold, it appears that Nick Stahl was part of the deal. We get the skinny from our friends at joblo:

Will actor Nick Stahl return to the role that Edward Furlong once made excruciating? TERMINATOR 4 will apparently involve John Connor’s futuristic crusade against those metal motherf*ckers, and ‘Master Sgt. Candy’ tells us that (as rumored/expected) Stahl is not only part of the “option package” on the sequel(s), but is indeed giving consideration to coming back (we suspect he’s being assaulted with bags of legal tender).

I really have a strong dislike for Terminator 3. I cannot even give an honest opinion of Stahl’s performance in the film because I was just so angry as I watched it, that I wrote off everything about it. The fact that he was even in T3 makes me mad at him, this is unreasonable and yet I live with it.

If they do T4 set in the future I think it may be best to get another actor to play John Connor unless Stahl decides to go to rugged man camp and get surly. The future robot wars is where T3 should of happened. It is a movie that needs to be made and it is a perspective that if done well, will add a lot of depth to the series. Plus it is no secret that we love robot on robot, robot on human violence around these parts.

T1 and T2 were awesome T3 sucked, If they must make more – I hope the return to awesome is swift.

  1. I like to pretend the Terminator movies are Prequels to the Matrix trilogy. I watched all 6 one weekend and it was one of the most epic weekends I ever had.

    Nord

  2. I thought Stahl did a good job in the movie; far less annoying than Edward Furlong. It just sucks that he has no choice but to do this movie. I hope he enjoys it because you can always tell when an actor is bored on screen.

  3. Very well written, Doug!!!! :D I totally agree with you!! It’s a great shame that Terminator 3 sucked big time!!! It should’ve been made by Cameron and the setting would be the future. I actually had a Terminator dream. Terminators (T800) walking through a small town and every house had a par of stairs leading up to the front door and Terminators entered and killed families.

  4. As much as I think T3 spit on the Terminator mythology that Cameron created, I cant put any of that blame on Stahl’s shoulders. The writers and director f**ked that movie up.

So personally, I would like to see Stahl return because I think he is a good actor and I think he’ll do fine in the role again.

My main concern is the story and director.

No to Mostow returning and Yes to Nick Stahl and the Future War with packs of Terminators.

  5. Stahl sucks ass. He was one of the MAIN reasons T3 was god-awful. The studio should call the lawyers and demand he be put out -the little bastard doesn’t have enough money to fight to stay in. That he was made part of the option package shows just how out of touch the people running/ruining Terminator have gone. Stahl doesn’t look dynamic, he wasn’t charasmatic, and he dragged the franchise down.

I saw Carnivale BTW and Stahl was more wooden than Hayden Christiansen. Clancy Brown was the star of the show far as I’m concerned.

If that goofy-looking fuck is T4 then at least I can cross it off my Must-See list of movies for 2009.

  6. I agree that Stahl is a terrific actor. He won me over in Carnivale. That show is also proves that he can do rugged, although he somehow pulled off rugged and boyish at the same time, which might not be appropriate for a future John Connor.

  7. T3 sucked, but it had some good concepts. I think the original pitch looked good on paper, but it was the execution of it fell flat on its face.

  8. I love the Terminator universe and enjoyed T3 alright. Now I wonder if this is just a smidge of the backlash “The Hobbit” would experience. Harry Potter’s have faired well with direction changes. But with the Terminator universe, one has to write a story as well. I just try to relax and enjoy the product. Spiderman 3 suffers with the same director. Maybe with future war, things will correct themselves.

    In short…. who knows?
