Matthew Fox in Speed Racer

Matthew Fox first crossed my path when my first wife got me addicted to Party of Five. (I had a bit of a TV crush on Neve Campbell) But I have forgiven her. Now that he is better known for his role on LOST, Fox has made a better name for himself. That name has got him in negotiations to be involved in Speed Racer.

Yahoo News says:

Fox is in final negotiations to play Racer X in the live-action update of the 1960s cartoon, which the brothers behind the “Matrix” franchise are writing and directing.

In addition, Australian actor Kick Gurry is in negotiations to play Sparky, Speed’s hippie mechanic.

Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman already are on board the film, which will shoot in the summer in Berlin.

I admitted before to not being a fan of Speed Racer, but at the same time I don’t hate it. But as each little bit of casting news comes out combined with the Wachowski’s involvement, I get more and more interested in this.

Although it is based on a campy anime show from the 60s, I think this has scads of potential to bring us a wild driving action movie. I mean with the Fast and the Furious franchise being the benchmark, this can only be better. And with the Wachowski’s on board it might just rival the eye candy of Tokyo Drift.

This is shaping up to be a good movie. Hopefully it is.
