Channing Tatum is slightly less terrible in The Hateful Eight

It’s no secret that Channing Tatum is awful. He’s got a lot of charisma, can dance, but has trouble in the actual skill of ‘acting’. The problem being that he’s rarely believable as becoming another character and whenever I see him on screen he’s always the same guy. He’s Channing Tatum in space or Channing Tatum in high school or Channing Tatum shooting up the White House lawn with Jamie Foxx. In The Hateful Eight Tatum is still Channing Tatum with just a southern accent. The good thing for Tatum is that he’s not as overtly scene breaking as he used to be. It could be something in his physical performance or something in his look but for the most part he’s not as distracting as he was in say The Eagle.

I won’t ruin the plot of Hateful Eight by divulging his character reveal but let’s just say it’s there and it’s mildly decently acted. barely. kinda sorta. I wish I could share a picture or clip of his acting but even that walks the line of spoiler territory.

Maybe over the years I’ve gotten soft and I’ve just let myself accept the fact that this guy will continue to get roles and appear in movies that aren’t appropriate for him. For better or worse Tatum and Zac Efron will ride the wave of their good looks until women stop buying their movies and Hollywood inevitably moves on to the next pretty boy with limited acting range.

Feel free to chime in if you’ve seen the film.
