Star Wars Blu-ray Announcement at CES Thurs

Lucasfilm will be making an announcement concerning Star Wars on Blu-ray at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas. They’ve already announced this, and all signs point to Fall 2011 for the release, so it’s hard to tell what this special announcement may be. Early predictions lean towards some tie-in with 3D, but no one seems sure.

Engadget reports:

Seeing that Lucas & Co. already announced that the Star Wars series would be coming to Blu-ray we’re not exactly sure what will be announced on Thursday at Panasonic’s CES booth — please, please, please don’t say it’s another Avatar-style two year pack-in exclusive — but the invite promises it will be most impressive.

I think we’d all like to see an original trilogy Blu-ray containing the original, unaltered theatrical releases alongside the special editions, but that’s unlikely. Either way, I’m always excited when there’s an original trilogy announcement.

  1. I personally dont “Hate” the prequels, Just Jar Jar really.

The thing with the prequels is that they were kinda the 1st to use that whole “Prequel” premise in these types of movies and I think it threw some people off and confused us a bit. That and the fact that the effects were more advanced and stuff like the ship that carried the princess around was more advanced looking than the stuff weve seen in the originals.(That kinda bothered me)dont get me wrong though, they were great looking ships, creatures and such BUT it looked more like sequels than prequels in design.

I personally liked part 3 the best cause it tied in everything we came to love about this glorious franchise. Wookies, Vader, and Luke (baby anyways) But no reference (even in the minimum) to Han Solo was fucked-up!

    Yes, I’ll buy the blu-rays

  2. I find the relentless hatred of the new trilogy to be tiresome and pointless. I liked Phantom Menace okay (it at least FELT like Star Wars), and pretty much loathed Episodes 2 and 3. I loved the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars cartoons, and despise the new CGI follow ups. But at the end of the day, my childhood wasn’t about those movies. I don’t need them to love Episodes 3, 4 and 5, and I certainly don’t intend to allow my hatred of the new trilogy to dampen my love of the originals. Hate the new trilogy, but don’t allow it to destroy the gift the originals gave us.

So many of us built all of our childhood imaginary adventures upon the original trilogy, which stands alone and doesn’t really need the new trilogy to be enjoyed. So, yes, I’ll be buying the original trilogy on Blu-Ray because for the first time, technology will allow me to see it in incredible clarity with amazing surround sound on my giant high definition television screen, and I’ll remember the awe and wonder of my youth as I do.

  3. I’m with Dirk. I don’t own any star wars except the original vhs at my parent’s house. And the only news that would really be exciting is sequel talk. Produced by, not directed by, not screenplay written by, Lucas.

    1. and that alright what i dont get is when all these people keep buying the newest edition that have come out and then they complain well if you dont like them then dont buy them and keep the ones that you like its as simple as that

  4. Star Wars – Blu-ray, Star Wars – 3D edition, Star Wars – Holodeck experience, etc. Who cares anymore. We’ve all seen
the movies already, countless times probably, and I’m sick of all the shameless money grabs now. Make some sequels to the original trilogy NOT written or directed by Lucas and you’ll get my attention back.

    1. and im sure you will be one of those people in line at a store at somepoint to grab yourself a copy you hypocrite

of cource this is a money grabe its a business why wouldnt they do this it would really stupid if they didnt do this

    2. Star Wars Holodeck edition doesn’t sound too bad. As long as it’s like the STAR TREK TNG holodeck where you become the role of any of the characters.
