Monsters, Inc. Prequel Gets Title

The prequel to the $525 million grossing Pixar film, “Monsters, Inc.” will be called “Monsters University.”
Hollywood Reporter is revealing:

Sully/Goodman and Wazowski/Crystal are expected to be back as will monster bad guy Randall Boggs (voices by Steve Buscemi). Disney has scheduled the sequel for a 2012 release.

I take a lot of grief for this stance, but I think the only thing that could excite me less from Pixar is a Cars sequel…

Oh.

  1. I’m personally excited for this sequel! Monster’s Inc. came out when I was 11 so it was one of my favorites. Now that I’m in college, Monsters University, just by the name, looks like it’ll be chock full of college references and funny bits. Great post!

  2. I though Monsters Inc wrapped up perfectly and left no room for a sequel. A prequel is the only way to go. I’m definitely looking forward to it. Cars is the only Pixar product that I am not a fan of.

  3. Cars 2 isn’t even on my Radar…Cars and Bugs Life are 2 Pixar movies I didn’t care about. But that’s rare.

Was happy to hear of a Monsters 2, but kind of disappointed it’s a prequel. Will still see it. Pixar tells good stories and have proven they can do good follow ups, so I have faith.

Agree with James though: Incredibles is the one sequel I’m actually itching for.

  4. To me it’s rather funny, the only movie in the Pixar line-up that actually ended with an open ended story line (The Incredibles), they won’t make a sequel to.

I really enjoyed The Incredibles and really want to see the continuation already!!!

  5. I liked Monsters Inc a lot. I think a prequel isn’t a bad thing because it will help maintain the fear factor that anchored the first film. Not exactly sure what they would have done with a sequel…

  6. This is a bit harder to “Love” compaired to Toy Story 3
But still beats out Cars IMO.

Incredibles and Brad Byrd: Where are you when we NEED another sequel?

  7. I really liked Monsters, Inc. so I have been excited to see them do a sequel. Now to hear that this is going to be a prequel sucked some of my excitement away a bit. I’m sure it will still be a great movie but I wanted to see what else there was to play with in their universe and a “back to school” sort of story isn’t as interesting to me. Oh well.
