First Official Look At Conan

For some time now, the new Conan movie has been filming in Bulgaria. Apparently they have just finished wrapping up that process. To mark the end of filming, they’ve just released the first official look at the new Conan the Barbarian. Here’s Jason Momoa doing his best young Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonation. Enjoy the photo…

I’m on the fence about Momoa as the new Conan. But I admit to being a bit unfair on him, because of my love for Schwarzenegger’s Conan. I grew up on those films…so it’s a bit hard. Even if the originals where cheesy or weak on some respects, it doesn’t matter, I love them. I guess we’ll have to give Momoa a chance here…we’ll see how it turns out.

What do you guys think? Looking forward to this new Conan film?

  1. I think he looks fine as Conan. I loved arnold in the 1st movie and he did a great job but Jason actually looks more like the Conan from the comics especially the Savage Sword of Conan comics I grew up on. He looks raw and animalistic like Conan should be and all he’s co-stars keep saying about his performance is he’s a straight killer so I look forward to that. I hope the movie is much more raw than sword and fantasy movies of late who seem to lean more for the comedy approach, mummy, scorpion king, prince of persia. This movie needs to be gritty.

  2. I loved Arnold as Conan too and the first movie is one of my favorites (along with the filmscore) but I do think that Momoa looks a bit more like the Cimmerian Conan created by Robert E. Howard. I hope this movie turns out to be great! I can’t wait!

    1. Agree with you 100% I really loved the first Conan movie with Arnold as well but if Mamoa can take us closer to the Robert E. Howard imagining I am all for it.

    2. Thanks bout time someone who is actualy a Howard fan say that. This is way more the way I see conan. I mean if your gonna claim to be a big Conan fan maybe you should read the source material. I loved the conan mvies but arnold was to slow.

  3. Geez… He looks WAY too caveman-y for my tastes… I know he’s supposed to be a barbarian and there’s a “look” associated with that… Especially with Conan, but even his FACE looks downright cro-magnon.

  4. Conan the Barbarian is my favorite movie of all time. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve seen it. The first one was not cheesy at all. It was raw and perfect. Arnold did a perfect job portraying a man who had suffered all his life. Milus is a genius and I had the fortunate opportunity to speak with him one time because my Criminal Justice professor in college was very good friends with him. This is going back four or five years ago. We briefly spoke about Conan and my love for the film and my obsession with his then current project Rome on HBO which was also amazing. As for the second Conan film it sucked ass but Ill watch it if it’s on hahaha. As for Mamoa, he indeed could be bigger there’s no question there. I pray heavily that they don’t fuck this movie up or else I’ll be pissed. Im totally with you though Francisco Im on the fence as well. We can only hope.

  5. I really hope when the trailer finally gets here we see something that gets us all excited. I do admit, Momoa _does not_ look like he did in SG Atlantis. I think he bulked up quite a bit, which this picture shows. I want to like this as much as I loved the original movies with the Governator.
