Taxi Driver Remake Rumors are Rubbish

Director Lars von Trier, had been rumoured to be getting the ball rolling on a sequel or remake of Martin Scorsese and Robert Deniro’s Taxi Driver. But that rumour didn’t last long, and is now busted.

/Film shares:

Von Trier’s business partner Peter Aalbaek Jensen tells ScreenDaily that “what is written” by the Danish film magazine “is not true.” He confirmed that the two directors had met at the Berlinale but said rumors von Trier wanted to re-make Taxi Driver were “rubbish”.

I would like to see a number of classic stars that endured the Hollywood machine to return to old roles just to see where they are 20-30 years later. This is how I feel about Tron, and it looks like it is shaping up to be a suitable sequel with its original star.

So I wouldn’t be opposed to a Taxi Driver sequel, but still ok with the news that they are not.

Is there any film over 20 years old, who’s star is still making films that you would like to see update their own franchise?

  1. It would suck if they remade Taxi Driver. I mean there are very few remakes that are actually good. I was very disappointed with the remake of The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3.

    1. Von Trier doing this would’ve been way different from the Pelham remake. Von Trier is a psychological director and I think he would actually have been a great fit, if it was true. I don’t know, I wasn’t stoked but I wasn’t opposed to this idea, especially with Von Trier being involved.

  2. I’d much rather see a Scorcese picture that has nothing to do with Taxi Driver, other than having DeNiro, Keitel , Jodie Foster in a script by Paul Schrader.

Next thing you know, Anitchrist director Van Trier will make the same challenge to DePalma for Body Double. Or Larry Kasdan for Body Heat.

    1. Gran Torino was originally conceived as the final entry into the Dirty Harry franchise until Eastwood himself nixed it, feeling the film would be better served as a stand-alone story.
