Conan Teaser Poster and Plot Online

Conan will be getting a remake by Marcus Nispel, a former music video director turned to feature films. And the plot and poster have shown up online.

I found it interesting that they credit him for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th films in the poster. Unless they are trying to show that he is good with remakes (Chainsaw was ok, Friday the 13th was weak) but for a physical action flick like this, you think they might have mentioned Pathfinder. Maybe that sucked too.

Dread Central also has the plot (not synopsis – the plot) that illustrates the whole of the film, so if you do not want to be spoiled, you may want to skip that part.

Dread does give away that fanboys will be pissed. But aren’t they always crying over remakes?

  1. And say whatever you want about Ang Lee’s Hulk, Ang Lee is a good director. I don’t know about this guy doing the new Conan film. The two movies they decided to put on the poster don’t impress me at all.

I love Conan as a character and I loved the first film by Milius. I hope this guy surprises me and makes a good film. One can only hope.

    1. I view Lee’s Hulk as the first theatrical realease and not a remake. There was a TV series and TV Movies based on that series, but no theatrical release before. Its an adaptation.

And while the Incredible Hulk doesn’t acknowledge the first, its not a remake of that film but rather ANOTHER adaptation of the same source material.

      Neither are remakes.

  2. Studios need to learn a key lesson in two recent “remakes.”

Hulk & Hulk. One remake told the entire origin story, a story we all already knew, and it was a boring film. The remake of the remake, with Edward Norton, skipped right past the origin story and treated the audience with a tiny bit of respect, just moving the story forward. It was a fantastic, action-packed film.

People know the origin story from the original Conan film. Why redo that? Just take Conan and give him some quest(s), have him continually kick ass and surround him with others who continually kick ass, too. We don’t need the damn origin story again.

    1. Naw, that’s where the whole “assumption” bit comes in–you can’t just say “oh, everybody knows the origin, so let’s just skip that part and move on, everybody”.

The whole point of a remake is to introduce a franchise/film to a whole new audience/generation. Take the other post on TMB, for example, the one about Jem, that 80’s cartoon–a few of the people (including me) didn’t know who or what Jem was; and now that they’re remaking it/rebooting it, a few of us are interested in it. The old ones, too, might wanna come back and see it.

Frankly, I see remakes as great marketing strategies–kinda like exhuming a corpse and pinching it’s pockets to see if there’re any nickels still left…..some pull it off while others go horribly off track: I don’t agree with you on the Hulk thing; I disliked both of ’em, but Norton’s Hulk was marginally better, yes.

A better example, in my opinion, would be the Batman franchise…..enough said, right?

  3. Unlike from other “from the director of…” announcements, this does not thrill me in the least. They mention TWO REMAKES OF SLASHER FILMS. Is ‘Conan’ a slasher film? I’d much rather have the ‘from the director of” announcement removed.

Now, it might go better if it said ‘from the producers of ‘Rambo’ (Avi Lerner/Boaz Davidson’ and ‘Underworld’ (Henry Winterstern) AND the director of ‘Friday The 13th’ (which would be Nispel’s previous film) See what I mean?

“A Marcus Nipsel film” is fine. The one sheet teaser overall looks good anyway, so why bother with all that other stuff anyway?

  4. Very few directors can write “A (Directors name) film” and get away with it. Spielberg, Scorcese, a few others. Often it’s a telltale sign that the persons ego is getting too big, whith disasterous results. I think Shyamalans movies started to suck at the same time that they started to write “A M Night Shyamalan film…”

  5. HAHA! Both Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th were terrible, so was Pathfinder. If they put any of those on the poster, I would automatically think Conan would suck too.

  6. You’re right Rodney. Really these days, there’s nothing that comes along without some complaint about something concerning the film. Whether it’s an actor, or the director. Hell, even writers get crapped on at times.

  7. Proud accomplishments for LAME-ASS movies(remakes even!)dont really set my expectations high at all. even if there on the “teaser poster”

This can be horrible in every way that Pathfinder was. (couldn’t even sit through whole thing)or as special effects ladden as Prince of Persia and still be a hallow shell of the original beast of writing and visual style of the source material. the dark horse comics in the mid-2000’s got the tone right and used the rated R source material wisely.

The original film is dated and looks such, but still acomplishes a good degree of greatness in the actors portraying their characters. I still have images of Conan fighting that HUGE snake and that sexy warrior woman in my memory..

HOPE THEY DONT TARNISH YET ANOTHER GREAT PIECE OF WORK with hack directors and their watered down copied versions

  8. lol. I can handle the poster except the “from the director and A Marcus…” bits. That turns me off right away and makes me think the movie will be crap. I’m sorry you might think you are someone Marcus but you aren’t. No one cares about you. They care about Conan and that is what you should be focusing on.

  9. From the director of Pathfinder? Well, a piece of me just broke inside. That movie was all kinds of horrible, but if he can learn from past mistakes then maybe, just maybe, this may turn out alright. How the movie will be certainly cannot be determined by the plot synopsis, either, since Pathfinder sounded like it was going to awesome. Which it ended up not being at all. I’ll just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

  10. meh there gonna complain but w/e it sounds like a awesome plotline…fanboys are fanboys and i would think that the fanboys do not run this unvirse with a iron grip….or else maybe they would have a decent MMO out on the market….failboys more like it…..and agree with you 100% why put that u made 2 crappy movies that arenot in the same genre of conan…..wierd

      1. Its short for MMORPG which means Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

Like World of Warcraft or Everquest. People log on to their characters and play in an interactive game world.
