Roy Rogers to Return to the Silver Screen

The screen legend of the open frontier and subject of Officer John McClane’s fancy, Roy Rogers will be returning to the very silver screen that introduced him to the world.

821 Entertainment has announced that they will bring the serial western star back to the theaters with further plans to spin off his likeness into other media as well.

Get the Big Picture shares:

“[The trilogy of films will] not be a biopic, and will not be a traditional Western, but rather a family fantasy adventure. Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Trigger are quintessential figures of America, and we will introduce this franchise to a new audience while capitalizing on the millions of Roy Rogers fans worldwide.”

Well that is wonderfully vague!

So they will NOT be returning to the spaghetti western, or the clean cut singing cowboy films. But what it will be is a “family fantasy adventure”?? I am not really sure how that would work.

I have a surface interest in this just because my father raised me on the old black and white films of Gene Autry, John Wayne, Roy Rogers, and Michael Martin Murphy. It was in my early cinematic education that I found an appreciation for the adventure and nobility of the cowboy and a fascination for the Wild West.

What this will have to do with all of that still remains a mystery.
