The X-Files: I Want to Believe Trailer Online

Back when we posted aboutthe title: I Want To Believe I still didn’t feel the need to see this movie. Granted as much of a big geek as I am, I really didn’t follow X-Files to begin with so that might have something to do with it.

I know, people will say “Thats why you don’t want to see this movie” because I wasn’t already a fan. But isn’t this the point? Shouldn’t they want to make a feature film extension of the TV Series into something that makes non-fans eager to see this? Bring in new fans. Tell a good story.

Or will this be buried in tie-ins to their history? This (among other things) I think is the biggest downfall of Serenity, the movie to cap off the canceled Firefly TV Series. The movie on its own was good. But there is SO MUCH that you miss out on if you didn’t watch the series. So much makes more sense if you have already traveled with these characters.

As a non-fan (not a hater) I still don’t feel drawn into this. Is this movie leaning too much on the existing fanbase for its success?

If you do want to see this, was it this trailer that made you want to or just that it is an X-Files movie?

  1. fair enough, i guess i agree with you. i just don’t like it when people slag off a rapper/singers presuming they will be shit before they have even seen as much as a trailer. i know john is pretty pissed about fiddy cent being in righteous kill, but it looks like he won’t be in it too much. so why the uproar? i do agree, however, and fiddy has proven he can’t act. i did think ice cube was awesome though in the early days of his acting career. well, i thought he was pretty good in boyz in the hood anyway.

  2. I dont mind singers/rappers being in movies. I mind them STARRING in movies.

That was XZibit, and his role is minor in the film. Which is where I think these “crossover artists” belong… little roles and work their way up as they show the ability to act.

Too often these musical performers get roles simply because they are popular as singers. They have to prove they can act… just like actors do.

  3. was that X-Zibit in the trailer? surprising if it is, as i havent read a single word about someone being upset about a rapper being in another movie.

  4. They also can’t reveal too much. That was part of the genius of the older seasons of the TV show – Each episode something weird was happening, but the viewer never really knew exactly what until three quarters of the way through, at least.

  5. from what I’ve read, they are doing it as a stand alone film rather than bogging it down in all the history of the show. I never really watched The X-Files but I saw the first movie and thought it was really good.

  6. Sorry Evil Cat
the ppl that likes it isn’t it only Fans, its also mystery, suspense, thriller, and hell its classic, we are talking about x files , as long the storyline is good, then who cares how the trailer look, its always been look cheesy, but the storyline did the whole show!!!!

  7. I usta love the X Files, but we’re talking 13 years ago! That’s the age most movies aim for in an audience, now. It’s not like the 70s when they brought back Star Trek and you’d get one, maybe two new releases a week.

So unless they’re counting on he fans alone bringing in the cash for this, they need to go back to the drawing board with that trailer, and make one that tells us enough about the film to make us all want to go and see it.

    Because that had nothing.

It would have worked 10, 12 years ago, but now? That’s not even a teaser!

  8. I most likely will see it, regardless. The X-Files film ten years ago was great- and the series was still around then. Ten years later…I recall The last X-Files season, where things went to pot. I recall the lame series finale. I would love to see how things work out where Mulder and Scully get off the lam and into the story. But there’s a lot of loose ends with a ten yr absence, and my understanding is that the alien conspiracy isn’t even mentioned. Big mistake. It has to be alluded to in order to bring our two leads back into the front lines.

Unless, of course, the last X-Files season was all part of the ‘Shrooms ep, or a VR sim gone wrong…the demise of the Lone Gunmen was a hoax…
