The Movie Blog: Uncut – April 7th 2008

Hey there folks. Welcome to this week’s installment of The Movie Blog Uncut Monday edition. Today I’m joined by the now regular co-host (not the fiber kind) Ashley Oxford, who has been co-hosting with us on the Uncut LIVE show now makes her regular Monday Uncut debut. Sharon DeWitt is off on assignment and Doug Nagy is currently back in Canada.

At any rate, take some time to download or stream this installment of Uncut as Ashley and I discuss:

1) The passing of Charlton Heston

2) How to pick DVDs with your girlfriend/boyfriend

3) Star Wars on Spike – Who watched movies on TV anymore?

4) Tom Cruise’s “Valkyrie” in trouble?

5) Uwe Boll will retire with one million signatures?

6) John talks “Leatherheads”

7) John and Ashley talk “The Ruins”

All this and a few things more.

  1. Dating is not a big thing where I’m from, we usually meet girls at bars, hang out and either the night ends with us parting ways for good or having sex (which is great!). So I’ve never had to go through the whole choosing movies crap. Only once have we debated over a film, King of Kong of all movies, she had no interest in it, because it was about a computer game and that it was a documentary and thought it would be some heavy handed shit. I ended up watching it alone. Meh.

  2. So to follow up on what some other’s have said here, John, I know you’ve said you’re in LA “off and on”. When you’re back in Canada will you be having Bruxy and Darren back for the round tables?

I still love the show without them and Ashley is a great substitute, but it’ll be great to have the whole old gang back.

  3. Good show. I’m totally with you on the Uwe Boll thing John. Why do people want him to stop making movies? It’s like we’d lose a part of ourselves if he stopped, I mean, what else would be complain about?

  4. Hi Ashley and welcome! You make a great addition to the show.

Hope Doug will not be away too long though! He’s the swizzle stick that stirs the drink.

  5. I always thought that Heston would have made a fantastic Bruce Wayne for Dark Knight Returns when he was in his 50’s.
When I read that I always pictured him as Bruce. His looks and voice were bad ass and he truly was a giant star, one of the last true Hollywood powerhouses.

  6. Good point about people stilling being good people even if they have wrong ideas about certain things. I’ve always appreciated Heston while hating his social positions on things like guns and the whole NRA thing. It was a great loss. Good show.

  7. Wonderful show you two! I’ve been listening to the show for a few months and I’m totally hooked. Nice to have a regular woman on now!

Question for John and Ashley. You guys have always sounded like you have a great chemistry. Do you guys have a “history”? Do tell!

  8. Yea I agree about that Star Wars Saga topic. I tried to watch Revenge last night but as soon as a TV ad comes up I change the channel. But if there is an old time movie I havent seen in awhile like ….. Star Trek 4 then I dont care about ads or editing I havent seen it in awhile so im gonna watch it on TV.
