Step Up 3-D?

According to Variety, a third installment in the “I don’t know why it’s so popular”  ‘Step-up’ series, is in the works. It’s also going to be in 3-D. The “cleverly thought out” title is supposed to be ‘Step Up  3-D.’

Comingsoon.net gives us this news:

The film will become the latest 3-D live-action film from the studio, with Step Up 2 the Streets director Jon Chu in talks to reprise.

Offspring Entertainment partners Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot will develop the film; the pair produced the first two “Step Up” pics.

Considering the sequel made quite a lot of money, it was inevitable that this was going to happen. However, this is not music to my ears. Don’t get me wrong, I love dance movies, but I love dialogue and plot more.  I watched the first film and that was enough for me. I managed to piss off my girlfriends who were VERY into the film.

First, I pointed out the lead girl was from a Canadian horror film named ‘Tamara.’ Then half way into the movie after watching Channing Tatum trying to act black for the millionth time, I turned to my friends and asked, “So, I don’t get it. Are we supposed to find him attractive?” They all gave me a look as if I was stupid to think he wasn’t drop dead sexy.  After my constant sighs and bursts of sporadic laughter, my friends were ready to kick my ass. Needless to say I wasn’t invited to see the sequel with them. (Darn!)

That was fine with me, because I was probably going to rip into the sequel way more. I was already sick of seeing the trailers for the past two months, and if I had to hear that “Low” song one more f*cking time, I was going to scream. (I just got it out of my head…ooh..wait…NO…it’s back….F*ck!)

I love 3-D movies, but considering the other 3-D movies slated for release in the next two years, I think I’m going to skip out on this installment.

  1. Wow! I am sooo disappointed! I love the dance and that. Is why I love 1 and 2 . #3 has special effects with dancing and it makes it unreal, and to those who have looked at these movies as dance inspirations, to me it is REAL let down!

  2. their is just so much wrong with step up 3 but it is still a good movie! the first one is how come when she she bumps into chase books fall out of her bag which is closed? why does she wear joggers with one leg up and one down? and how come he “crew” leader is a stuck up aragent tit ? why does she act like a big star when she is just someone who dancecs weirdly ? Why does she always wear hats and look like a chav man ? Why doe she push a chance to be in with the popular kid ? their is much more i could bitch about but im not going to bother :)

    1. Seriously? Aragent? Youre commenting on how stupid someone ELSE is….using a word that doesnt even exist? Little kid….the word is “arrogant”. Please dont use big words you dont understand. We would all much rather you didnt talk at all, than to murder the english language as you are doing. Aragent? Seriously? You couldnt have run a 10 second spell check? You actually went with “aragent”? Hahahah. Wow. And people actually wonder why america is one of the….if not THE number one fastest declining countries in the world.

  3. I kind of agree with you. I thought the first one was so bad. My friends bodily dragged me out the room during the middle of the movie because of my sarcastic comments. Also, there was close to no dancing, which was dumb as it was supposed to be a dancing movie. Complete waste of time.

I missed the second one, so I cannot comment on that.

Step up 3d cannot compare to the first one. In any way. The change in director makes for a completely different movie, and it makes me sad that the first one is attached to the 3rd one. It’s electric, especially in 3d, and I was seriously ready to go take on the hobo on the corner in a (dance) battle because the movie completely owned my eyes for the hour and half that I watched it.

So, go see it. In 3d. It’s awesome, and not by the slang usage of the word. It’s awe-inspiring. Some of the dancers are not human. The visuals are amazing, and the movie was recorded 9not converted) in 3d, like Avatar, so the 3d effects are full and vibrant. I caught myself flinching during certain scenes as things flew out of the screen.

WARNING!: The issue that people have with Step Up 3d is that “the plot sucks, and the dancers cannot hold the supposed premise to save their life.” I disagree. I mean, it was predictable; there was no sudden twist at the end or anything, but it is a dance movie. Not a “we-will-mind-fuck-you-with-the-hidden-deep-meanings” movie. If people want to be mind fucked by deep meanings, they should stay in high school English classes. If you go into the movie pumped about dance, you will absolutely love it. If you go into the movie with a pen and paper ready to make a note of every time they could have made a line better or every time you predicted the outcome, you will probably not enjoy it.

Reconsider, Rodney. I think I would be interesting to read a follow up post.

  4. sorry!! but the first film is the best! i love jenna davis and more channing tatum… they inspired me to dance, they are wonderful! i can’t find the words to describe all the things thay they promoted in myself!
step up 1 is the best film that convinated romanticism and a fantastic level of dance!! the second one have a lot of breaking dance and they cannot mixted the styles, is only one so it’s not new! sorry but this is my opinion!

  5. I reeeeeeeeeeeally like…no no no-LOVE step up 1 aaand 2…they r awesome.A watched it like a 100000 times and still not bored! yeeey 2 all the fans of STEP UP…love every1
    RESPECT

    i don`t understand those people who say bad thingz about this movies…if u don`t like it,then fine,don`t…and like some1 here said…get a life!

  6. i really dont see why if people hate this movie so much…why do they waster their time complaining about..get a fucking life..both the step up movies were amazing with good original plots, they also inspired me to hiphopbreakdance. stop hating on these movies.

  7. hey guys
let me tell you something about these movies… when watching a dance movie you don’t watch it because the actors are hot, you watch it for the dancing. that’s what the movie is all about. whoever said that the second one killed it is totally wrong. if you wathch the movie adian and look at the back up dancers when the main actors are being filmed just take a look and see how sick they are. don’t just look at the movie from one point. look at it from different angles and then you see how the dancing is. those looking at it from one angle need to be more creative and open there minds to other things aswell
(if you were a dancer you would have known that)

and in two did you bother to look right at the end and see the different styles of dancing that the dancers done, like vouging and locking and popping to breaking to even contemporary. open your minds guys and see how much effort and heart goes into these movies. they not the best of dance movies i know but what if they main like the back up dancers the main lead how would you find the movie then???

and the choreographers they use are real choreographers who are from the streets like dave scott and luam and shane sparks etc. (thats if you know who any of them are.lol)
get your facts straight next time guys before you decide to criticise.

    i’m out
    peace

  8. I personally love these series.
Sure theyre not the best acted out, but the hip hop culture stuff really appeals to my age group.

ALL of my friends and everyone I know likes them. Sure it is isn’t hardcore dance movie but nor is it too soft, it usually has an alright plot and if you’re a liker of the hip-hop culture its sure to ahve some positive effect.

All the girls seem to drool over Tatum or at the very least dont deny that hes attractive…so naturally I wouldn’t have thought you (the writer of this article) would *not find him attractive.

    But hey everyones different.

I found I liked the dancing in the second movie more enjoyable.
I’m really looking forward to this 3rd sequel.

I agree though, that the “Low” song is pretty annoying coz its like everywhere, esp with every radio station playing it every few minutes and ppl at school playing it *thinking their full hip.
It was at some point good until it was over-played…

  9. I’m a 19-year-old dancer…been doing it for about 6 years now (but, I’m not looking for a career in it). I really love the Step Up films. I think that as new dance styles are made…the film will innovate them. Looking forward to seeing more Adam G. Sevani in Step Up 3. I went to California from Florida to see this kid. He’s an amazing talent. I’m telling you…AMERICA…don’t sleep on his talent!!!

  10. personally, i couldn’t care less for both movies. the first, however, i watched for its great usage of music. at the very least, they weren’t pop songs. the sequel, unfortunately, killed things. sure both of the storylines were okay, i guess. innovative, even, with Channing Tatum acting black. but this scenario just reminded of the mortal kombat movies – going from bad to worse.

  11. So basically what ure saying is ure so limited in the sense that you can’t appreciate something that is different to you?

The thing about critics is that you are paid to criticize.
So either way you were gonna write somthing bad about the movie.

    The movie was great.
Made heaps of money, maybe because their are a lot of dance fans in the world, or simply because of it being based around hip-hop.

You really should learn to respect different kinds of movies and music.
I grew up around Hip-hop and RnB but i am still very comfortable listening to everything.

    Expand your mind set.

    Peace.

  12. I love Step Up 2. I wish that Briana and Robert was still the one starred there their so amazing. When I watch Step up 2, i started to loved DANCING i wish that Briana and Robert were still the ones…if it doesn’t i will really protest!!

    No need for 3-d’s!

  13. (Type your comment here. Make sure you’ve read the commenting rules before doing so) So, I have to say to EHS who has dissed “So You Think You Can Dance”…….that particular show has nothing to do with promoting street dancing….it promotes all kinds of dancing…..it’s up to the street dancers who are good enough to try out…..and lo and behold….a street dancer (albeit with extra training of some sort) won. I happen to like the movies and look forward to the next. Not often enough that the ‘unstudio type’ dancers find their way into the mainstream….and not often enough that people truly appreciate it. “Go Joshua, best of luck to you” !!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Okay……..step up 1 is ok. Some dance scenes better than the other. Step up 2 was FREAKIN ONE OF THE BEST DANCE MOVIES EVER!!!!!! I believe that if the acting from step up 1 and the dancing from part 2 were put together we would have a fantastic movie. I can’t wait for part 3……but after part 3 it should juss end.

  15. Who cares about the 3D? A little birdie on So You Think You Can Dance told me the winner of the show will land a spot in that movie. I don’t care who the actors are. I just want to see Joshua Allen tearing up that stage one more time. :D

  16. YEAH please make a step up 3, seriously im addicted to step up 2 the streets step up 1 is drop dead wicked IM SO SO EXCITED EXCITED ABOUT STEP UP 3-D COMING OUT SOON

  17. Why are you all moaning about what the film is called?
Damn, the first two movies in my oppinion were pretty good, the first better then the second – Thats what its about! The movie! It could be real good quality film but no, your too stuck up yourselves bitching about what the film is called and saying how rubbish it will be. That is so shallow. Jeez…

  18. Actually, Joshua Allen is going to be a featured dancer, not have a featured role, as I understand it. I will be watching for this movie simply because of him. I’ll rent the others, too, though I hadn’t heard of them before. I don’t care about thin plots if the background dancers give me a good performance. More dance movies are always a good thing, I say.

  19. I think it’s dumb to critique a movie you’ve never seen. Don’t get me wrong, I had no desire to see Step Up 2, since I had never even seen the first one. I went and saw it on a date however, and it turned out to be surprisingly good. I have seen the first one now, and while the main characters are not in the sequel, the two movies are completely separate movies. Both have very good attributes to them, and I don’t think you can simply bash a movie you’ve never seen.

  20. I LOVED STEP UP AND STEP UP 2! THOSE ARE MY FAVORITE MOVIES EVER!!!! BUT I JUST WANT TO NOE THEY R MAKING STEP UP 2 IN 3D? WHY DONT THEY MAKE A NEW MOVIE IN 3D INSTEAD OF STEP UP 2 CAUSE I ALREADY BOUGHT STEP UP 2 ON DVD AND I DONT WANT TO BUY THE SAME MOVIE JUST CAUSE ITS IN 3D SO THEY SHOULD MAKE A STEP UP 3!!!!

  21. So they are definately doing a Step up 3D because last night on So you think you can dance they offered a lead position to Joshua (the winner) and like they also announced that moose was gonna be back as well as hair…. so ya

  22. hi i just want to say that i liked both step up movies step up 3-d should be better all step ups came out on valentines day will this one and im josh allen the winner of season 4 so you think you can dance will be in this. well thats all i gotta say when it comes out im watching it.

  23. hi i just wanna say that i think both step up films were amazing and i think that the third one will be just as good.
They have quality dancers in it and i think they should bring them altogether in the third one.
I reckon that people who don’t like the step up movies should give the third one a chance, it might be better-who knows , but if its like the other two i reccomend watching it.

  24. BOTH OF THEM R FREAKIN AWESOME!!! i loved step up 2 wayyyyy better and ur rite they better have the grl in step up 3d she is freakin hott
they better have tyler in it too

  25. I LOVE STEP UP 2 && 1,
i keep watching it over & over
    every single day .
    everyone loves it,
&& i honestly cant wait for step up 3
    that would makeee my daay

  26. Hey, i just got the DVD of step up 2 and i noticed that the shoes briana wears in the Salsa scene are the same as the ones worn by Jenna in Step Up during the finale scene.

  27. hi guys o my god i cant wait for the latest step up thrilling movie its gonna be so good:D:D:D:D

wat do u guys think of the dancing? i wish i could move like that im from boston i really wanna start up my own crew any takers???

    peace out

  28. They should really take a look at the BBoy world internationally, like actually do physical research in the people and individuals who’ve breaked and danced in the streets, like in Japan, Europe, MiddleEast, Asia, USA, and Latin America. I’ve seen Capoiera in Breakdancing, but from what i’ve seen they need to really kick it hardcore instead of traditional Capoeira basing on the fight dancing, i don’t think i’ve ever seen a Capoeira break dancing group ever win the breakdancing competitions just yet, unless i missed something. Walt Disney hits like major parts of the world where Break dancing exists and even in the streets, such places i’ve seen them go break dancing is in Japan, Tokyo, and USA, New York. I definitely know it’s big in Germany. I am certain that they exist in Latin America and even in the Middle East. The music i’ve heard in actual breakdancing competitions has more kickass music since they actually DJ and mix them oldschool and new school beats and music, it’s even hardcore with some Drum N Bass, Jungle. I’d rather have a BBoy movie in Step Up with some history behind it as well… there’s plenty of really good break dancers in history and those who’ve made it this far and those who’ve been lost. their dance moves and style have inspired us all.

I have to say the Step Up franchise or movies of the first and the second one was alright, cool moves and dances, but really, it seems more unrealistic, and i know to many it would seem cheezy. Many who’ve actually been to and have seen actual street dancing and world competitions would say these movies are weak! They even said the competitions in the US like America’s Best Dance Crew and So You think You Can Dance are weak as well, and that they’re uncomparable to the actual hardcore Break Dancing COMpetitions out there in the world. Don’t get me wrong, But the JABBAWOCKEEZ are awsome as well as their HUge Huge Crew…. I’ve seen their HUUUUge crew before, they’re kick ass.

I have to add that the movies, STep Up 1 and 2, do seem overly dramatized and a bit cheezy, with too much kiddie stuff… haha… or trying too hard to show they’re hardcore. It’s like people actually lip-syncing and using body gestures over dramatically like in cheezy music videos. haha…. I did like the movies but still, when the second one came out, I was concentrating more on finding things or looking for things that just seem like it’s not suppose to be there judging whether it’s fake or not. They should make a movie that’s believeable and that’s actually real life that exists out there in the world. The second Step Up was better than the first one.

  29. I loved the first movie, I’m a dancer myself and dancing and seeing dancing movies get me happy and feeling good inside. Plus there are cute guys and hot girls in both 1 and 2 (bonus).

I can’t wait till the 3D Step Up comes out.

I think if you like those sort of movies, (the dance ones) thats great but if not thats cool as well, everyone has different tastes.

  30. okay first of all. all you people out there hating on the movie. stfu! (if you dont know what that means..it stands for Shut The Fuck Up) i watched both of the movies. it was AMAZING, i loved it. it even inspired a lot of people. it was better than all the dance movies i’ve seen.

COME ON! give it a break! you think it’s horrible?! i bet they can dance better than all of you! HAHAHA! their moves are sick, crazy, and cool!!! i should know, because i am a dancer myself. maybe you’re just to old school (or just plain old) to handle that. right?

i also love 3D movies. and Step Up in 3D? i wouldnt mind watching at all!!! in fact, i would actually tell all my friends to watch; dancers, breakers, krumpers, etc.

  31. BITCH FUCK DAT SHOW BITCH I AIN’T U BABY DADDY THAT BABY DON’T HAS THE SAME NOSE AS ME LOOK AT HIS NOSE THEN LOOK AT MY NOSE AND U JUST WAT MONEY FOR UR FUCK UP WEAVE BITCH FUCK U AND U DIRTY ASS BABY BITCH

  34. I LOVE THE STEP UP FILMSS AND IM GETTING LESSONS HOW TO DANCE LIKE THAT :D
I FINK THE SENCOND WULD BE BETTER IF IT HAD MORE OF CHANNING TATUM INITT :O HE ISS NANGG

  35. i think it will be a good i dea and i tink it willprobably be realy good lyk step up 1 was ok but step up 2 is da best film ive ever watched u no da girl in it briana evigan please let her be in the step up 3D if shes nt gna be in it trust me the film will be shit shes da best dancer in da world and without her da film will be shit and also make all the athor dancers dat were in step up 2 be in step up 3D or it will be shit and i wnt waitch and mi friends

  36. when i first saw the trailers for the 1st movie i was like wtf is this, fort it was going to be a waste of money, then i actuallu watched it its not the best movie of all but it was good depends on how u like ur movies, i think the 2nd is better than the 1st 1 more street style in init, those slating it dont kno nothing about a gd movie, watch it u will enjoy, 3d sounds ok even tho have my doubts coz most films in 3d dnt work very well, but i will go see it anywaY

  37. damm!!! what are u guys talking abt!!!
i had never seen any movie like this before in my whole life…..
its really amazing … i was on the edge of my seat… when i was watching
i really do not have ny words to express .. its simply magic work done by tall the dancers… well!!! u have to like dancing before watching this..
because this movie is meant for only guys who can dance!!!! i am waiting for step up 3d…

    1. Hell yeah, moose is funny =]

I thought the movie was great. I don’t know what your problem is. Dancing is one of the most amazing thing’s i’ve ever experienced. The way those people move in that movie….woweee. Anyway, i thought it was amazing. <3

  38. I loved both of the movies i thought that they were great. they had sexy guys and hotttt girls what do you need more? by the way the plot was good to. I guess you just have to be into that sorda dance sh**. To actually like it!!!!!!I LOVED THEM

  39. Saw the first movie on DVD and plan to do the same with it’s sequel. I mean, it’s just a random dance movie, doesn’t remake the wheel or shoes.

I don’t really care about 3D until the day we won’t need those glasses (I have to wear them on top of mine… wtf! – and yes I heard of those contact lenses “thingies”…)

  40. Despite of the cliches, I watched Step Up simply because Jenna Dewan was in it. I didn’t mind Channing Tatum, I felt that he was an actor and he took a job. When I found out neither Tatum nor the lovely Dewan (who also showed up in Grudge 2) was going to be in Step Up 2, I avoided Step Up 2 like a spill at a nuclear power plant.

I have zero intrest in Step Up 3-D. Not that I don’t blame the studio, who needs to strike while the iron is hot, and to milk the teat unil the cow dries up.

  41. Touchstone Exec: 3D is getting popular again, what movie should we release in 3D to compete?

Guy at the table: How about Step Up?

    Touchstone Exec: The dance movie???

    Guy at table: uhh… yeahh?…

Touchstone Exec: Brilliant!! Here’s $50million go do it.

  42. Hahaha, Serena, at first I was wondering why even comment on this stupid movie? Then you start laying into the first one in your post. Pretty funny stuff, keep it up.
